My son and I are building an Evolution. We are on hold while we move to a new shop. We eliminated all fuses, relays, gauges, switches and 1/2 the loom and wired for an Aim PDM 32 with a 10” dash. We really enjoy watching your build. Great stuff. Thanks.
@UltimateUltimaRS4 жыл бұрын
Wow... I didn't even know Aim offered something like that and I just read up all about it. That is awesome. Did you modify the existing wiring harness to work with the Aim kit, or did you start from scratch?
@tomcoury71544 жыл бұрын
@@UltimateUltimaRS I put the harness on a board as is. Wired it up to test LED's, a battery and verified all of the circuits. I then drew a wiring diagram, then de-loomed and rewired it all. I did it for fun and really enjoyed it. The bad news is the harness is ready to go but the project is on hold until we move this month. I saw the PDM 32 last November at the AIM booth at PRI. It was supposed to be released in February 2020. Due to Covid (they say), it is still hard to get and I don't have one. I have programmed it in their Beta software and purchased the harness connectors so it's ready to go.

I have never heard a Clecko called a skin pin before in my life. I have built Super Late Model Cars for 35-40 years and they have aluminum bodies you have to make from 0.040 thick 4'x8' or 4'x10' flat sheets of aluminum. I must have 150-200 Clecko's. Skin Pins is a whole new name for me. I wish I could show a picture of what a car looks like I build. If you want to look up a friend of mine Scott Bloomquist on KZbin and that's what a car looks like. Skin Pins ROFLOL
@UltimateUltimaRS4 жыл бұрын
So now you have 150-200 skin pins! 😄 I've always heard them said interchangeably. If you Google 1/8 skin pins, you'll see all the results are Cleco fasteners. I looked up your friend and he seems to be quite the legend in that series of racing. His hauler is amazing!
@jimmymcmahon59614 жыл бұрын
Yea Scott is definitely one of a kind racer. He has all kinds of Championship on dirt. He averages about 1/2 million dollars in merchandise sales a year. He has several nicknames, Voodoo Child, Black Sunshine and Bloomer. He has 3/4 of the field he races against just by intimidation. He broke his right hip at Bike week in Daytona last March so this year he hasn't won as much as he usually does because his recovery was slow. At 56 you don't bounce back as quick. I really enjoy watching you put your Ultima RS together. A friend of mine has been debating on ordering one. We are going to watch your build and see if he wants to do it. I told him I will help as much as I can. I have a brain injury and I can't fabricate like I use to. My left side is real weak and I'm left handed so I'm learning how to use hand shears with my right. That's why I'm watching your videos 2 or 3 times to see how much fabrication is done. Keep the good work up. I will be watching. 👍

I was driving mine 4 hours each way loaded with gear for a track day weekend, it's a perfectly good road trip vehicle! As for the LT harness, if you're going with the stock ecu, you can probably de-loom the braided shielded cable for the throttle sender, I'm willing to bet layout is very similar to the LS7 harness. It has enough length to reach the pedal from the side pod and you can make the harness look a lot nicer in the process.

Please, please, pretty please, don't used that LT5 harness. Look into something like a PDM that eliminates all of the bullshit, the fuse box, etc and makes for the cleanest installation possible. Haltech makes one that has a TON of features you could use on this monster like TC and a ton of I/O for just about everything imaginable. I think it's called the R5000? Also, on that DEI wrap, you're supposed to overlap it half way for maximum effect. Letting it soak in some warm water also makes it much easier and for a much nicer finished product as well.
@UltimateUltimaRS4 жыл бұрын
Corey I'm right there with you but I haven't been able to find a plug and play aftermarket ECU for the LT5. I just went on Haltech's website and it doesn't seem like they have anything for the Gen 5 LT engines at all. I know Holly JUST came out with support for some of them and I was excited for that until seeing the ONLY engine they don't support is the LT5. Motec is an option but the cost of an ECU plus custom harness PLUS custom tuning is a huge cost. All those extra components from GM are going to be in the side pod hidden, with just the wiring harness for the sensors wrapped around the engine. We'll see...
@corey6404 жыл бұрын
@@UltimateUltimaRS I'd contact Haltech directly and see what they can do, but if they can't help with a plug and play, I think your best option regardless is actually one of the kits and just source the connectors or use the ones from your harness and make it up yourself. There's a pretty good chance you'll have to some modifications to it anyway for layout and different placement of things anyway. It's not hard at all. One of the universal Haltech PDMs come so all you have to do is route it how you want and then crimp on the pins for the connectors. Can't ask for much easier than that. Lol
