Build Looks great, I’m also building a LT5 RS. But mine is a stock LT5. While your waiting for your kit, there a few minor mods on the engine you could do now. The AC compressor needs trimming for the engine mount, the thermostat gets drilled, and if you are using an analog oil pressure sensor look into a making a custom adaptor. Lastly we need to countersink one of the engine mount holes - I used the mount as a guide.

As a guy that is ocd about certain things looking a certain way... It bugs me that the supercharger cover still says corvette. I think I would have had to #1) Have that milled off so it's flat, and #2) Have it powder coated to match the valve covers. Also, the flat area would give you the ability to add something custom there to really tie the car together. Aside from that, I'm a big fan. Awesome build. Came out amazing, and I'm currently in the process of watching it all the way through. Great job man.

Looks good, mate! That LT makes the 650hp in mine seem mild. No deleting the variable timing? I believe Katech do that on their big power builds as well as a 112mm throttle body. Keen to see how it all comes together!
@UltimateUltimaRS4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Rob! Yeah the variable cam timing is deleted... you can see me take apart the cam phaser starting at 4:36. Katech does a whole revamp of the VVT which includes using a different type of cam, an LS3 style sprocket, and a different timing cover which I didn't find to have any benefit over the simple Comp Cams cam phaser lock. The Katech solution is like $600 vs $65 for the Comp Cams part.

I am contemplating do an LT swap for my 86 Caprice. Trying to see if I should drop to an LT4 or still do LT5. Most likely GM won't being doing an LT6 crate for a while. Thanks Couple of questions: 1. What is the difference between LT5 and LT6 (if known LT5 755hp, LT6 650hp)? 2. Why did they only do 1 yeah of the LT5 (If known) Thanks
@UltimateUltimaRS2 жыл бұрын
The LT5 is a cam in block, overhead valve engine that dates back to the small block Chevys of the 1950s. The LT6 is completely different with its over head cams and flat plane crank. I would put an LT4 in the Caprice since the LT5 has very little tuning support compared to the LT4 and the LT5 has been discontinued. I have heard the LT6 will be offered as a crate engine but I can't imagine it will be less than $30k.

Why do you want 1000bhp. For track use its probably too much unless you somehow increase the down force and have a fancy traction control system. Hope it delivers what you want. Great channel and great project.
@UltimateUltimaRS4 жыл бұрын
This is a common question and "purists" seem to disagree with the power output by usually saying it isn't "needed." But really that's the whole point of the car- there is absolutely nothing practical about it and zero need for a car like this even with 200hp. I used to have a Gen 5 Viper with around 700hp and it drove around just fine, but there are guys who put down 1800 to the tire on a 19" wheel in some twin turbo models. They're all over KZbin if you want to check them out and I've never seen one of the owners get out and say, "It's cool and all, but I just wish it didn't have that much power." I don't mean to be snarky or anything, but that's just my view. Thank you for the kind words as well!

was that a phaser lock out i saw get installed ? what is the reason why your deleting vvt ? 🤔
@UltimateUltimaRS Жыл бұрын
All the high HP LT engine builds I've seen delete the VVT. I modeled my build after the "ZR5" package by Advanced Modern Performance. I also wonder how much the VVT works in the crate engine since I know DOD does not work, even though the engine has the ability to. That's all because of the tune though.
@westtexas501 Жыл бұрын
@UltimateUltimaRS I too was also wondering about the DOD until I saw the block off plugs go into some oil ports, best off without that junk anyways they use different lifters that always collapse and fail with the dod system . As for the vvt system iv heard it helps make more lower end torque and higher hp in the higher rev ranges , but then again with the power goals your aiming for who knows if the stock phaser can handle that type of power. bad ass build by the way.
