My Dad and Star Trek... No, my dad was not a "Trekkie" or "Trekker". He was aware of Star Trek, as everyone was, fan or not. But there was this one time, early-mid 90's, when he watched an episode of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" with me and my brother. While I don't remember the specific episode, I do remember his critique after the episode ended... Paraphrasing here: "During this whole episode, it never even crossed my mind that these characters were all different species. They were just people. This was just good storytelling. Now, in the 20th century, why can't different peoples of the SAME human species get along like that?" One of the best memories I have about my Dad. Just another reason that Star Trek is so important.

That was a beautiful story and encapsulates exactly what is wrong with society. Star Trek was always about a time and era that has put all that behind them but also struggled with challenges that we face, just painted those scenarios with a different veneer. Specifically, this belief or achievement in human evolution was iterated a few times on The Next Generation by Picard.

This is fantastic! Love these actors and the camaraderie they obviously share with one another. Thanks so much for sharing. I wish I could have been there. I keep hoping someone has video of the Crusher Family Reunion, which I have heard was hilarious.

It's easy to see why TNG had so much magic. It's because of the chemistry between the cast members!

It is absurd for me to think and realize that TNG season 1 was 35 years ago. Also my person favorite ST cast is TNG, without question. You could just tell as the show went on that they were not only co-workers but friends/family. The chemistry of this cast has simply never been fully repeated in any other ST franchise since. I still love all the ST shows/movies in their own ways simply because I absolutely love the opportunity to be in that Universe to explore. Gene Roddenberry made a place that was safe for everyone to enjoy and I will always have a very special place in my heart for the foundation he built. I only wish the newer stuff would be just a bit more respectful of Gene's vision.

Surprised there was no shout out for James Sloyan, one of the best guest stars ever and a fantastic actor, on the show (side note: omg what happened to Denise Crosby? That's more than just general aging and sad)

@@joe-vz6hx TNG was fortunate to have a circle of guest stars who were willing to come back and wear difficult make up and prosthetics. Many well known actors who were Trek fans wanted to be on the show, but refused to wear the required make up for the character. They wanted to be "seen" not necessarily just contribute. Sloyan was known because he took on many roles that required heavy alien prosthetics. Many actors refused the make up because they thought their acting could not be seen through the makeup. But I think you will agree that good actors can be "seen" regardless of the makeup. Sloyan, Dorn, Todd, Plakson proved it over and over

Why do they *still* do these panels? These actors have answered every known question about their life, their careers and their work on TNG. You might as well get volunteers from the audience to have the actors ask them questions instead.

I think you have a point, it's very nice of them to do it but also they're actors and used to repeating things. And it is different to be there live vs. watching a video- same reason we still have in person concerts.

Agreed. They live in the same town as each other, worked on the same show, go to the same conventions, hang out with the same people that have the same opinions, and have had the same fan interactions over and over for almost 40 years. There are people in the engine room of that ship with more richer life experiences and varied viewpoints. An oldies rock cruise potentially provides better value because at least they play live music.
@paulpolpiboon95354 ай бұрын
To a certain extant that's true, but the most part they're doing it for thier presence, Trekkies just enjoy their company and it's worth it for many to see them and possibly interact. On another note, new generation (no pun intended) are catching on with Trek constantly and have never heard their stories or questions.

Star trek cruise: pay some out of work actors to talk about an old tv show to a bunch of rabid fans willing to shell out big bucks to scratch a parasocial itch. Exactly how roddenberry envisioned.
@sarahberkner5 ай бұрын
I mean, it's not like a cruise is normally free. I kind of agree that Trekkies can get a little crazy and toxic but I don't see a problem with a cruise. And they're not out of work, even some that are at retiring age still acted/directed recently. And this is part of their work.
