Spore druid pairs so incredibly well with Bear heart barb it's ridiculous. Fun fact: none of the spore druid's class features count as spells so they can all be used while raging. I usually go 5 barb 7 druid to maximize the effective size of the symbiotic entity shield. The only thing you gotta be careful about is making sure you cast shillelagh before raging because that does count as a spell

Warlock actually multiclasses pretty darn well. The pact of blade making attacks scale with charisma instead of strength works just fine in rage. There are some pretty great build guides out there from some of the smarter than me build wizards.

Wolf heart is good but you have to have allies who want to melee right next to your barbarian. Wolf aspect lets your party be stealthy.

Heavy armor negates the regular barbarian rage but does NOT block the wildheart rage bonuses. This means if you are a bearheart barb in heavy armor you keep the resist all damage types except psychic (you can get psychic resist if you are a githyanki using the silver sword) and can turn into a super tank. Use heavy armor that reduces damage and even pick up heavy armor master feat for more damage reduction. You can even turn into a support barb by taking at least 3 levels in cleric (take a cleric who gets heavy armor) to pick up warding bond. With your resistance to everything and flat damage reduction from armor and feat you will take very low or no damage from the warding bond. You can even be the parties healer because at level 5 in barbarian you can throw 2 potions per turn to heal yourself or others.

i strongly recommend eagle heart, there are enough times when you’re fighting with elevations and if you’re like me you’ll find yourself yelling “ka-CAAWWWWW!!!” while landing on puny enemies, using your insane movement speed to run up the cliff again and once lvl 5 screaming “i SAID ka-CAAWWwWWwW!!!” a second time. i also have a warrior and moon druid who then land all kinds of advantage attacks on them. OR just go wolf… allies always attacking with advantage is just great. you can run up with the barb swap to a warrior to knock them prone with advantage, then switch back to bard and hammer them to bits. amazing synergy options for melee parties

For a multiclass with a caster, try the bar-bear-Ian build that is quite popular in table top. Rage as a barbarian then wild shape as a Druid on the next turn. Or the same turn later game after getting a second bonus action from thief rogue lol

For caster barb - go 7 barb / 5 warlock - you rest much less, you run with agathys armor and devil's sight into either darkness and hunger of hadar, or your rage. Dex build, viciousness elixir, and you can practically fill all roles.

Devils sight is nice but arms of hadar is practically useless and armor of agathys is still arguably weaker than just 5 more levels of barb. For AoH you would need to heavily invest in a 3rd Stat or they are going to pass the saves weakening it's effectiveness greatly. With AoA you are going to get more hp through just leveling barb and the damage is mediocre for what time it does function, even extended by rage. A 3rd level AoA is going to be 15 temp hp and damage. Straight barb leveling will already net you at least 15 more health without conditionals attached. And even the third attack is not that special and requires you to get at least 1 weapon attack more through very special builds than just doing a two handed strength barb with GWM to truly be worth it. Edit: I forgot one more thing. 5/7 combos lose out on an ASI/feat that they could always make use of.

Mods will let us have a real magic barbarian, on the dandwiki there is a pretty good interpretation of bloodrager from pathfinder as homebrew. Essentially a half-caster sorcerer (minus the metamagic) with extra-attack and can do the war-magic thing that eldritch knight has while raging. Can also cast spells while raging. Wildmagic barb was a real let down for me.

My first play through was a wildheart barbarian and it was so nice to have the speak with animals and animal heart options, while just also being an undying machine of damage output I specced into crit change to use the brutal critical feature and oh my did things die

So I did a barbarian/,warlock/barb and wasnt to bad, had to dump int/wisdom to make it work, but a 2 dip in bard, 8 barbarian, 2 warlock. I do the 2 dips first usually so start bard 2 levels (jack of all trade) then 2 warlock (agonozing blast) the cantrip scales to character level not class level so it stays viable through the game, then do the 8 barbarian (wildheart usually). Gives a good amount of enchantment spells, and a means of range spell with the Eld blast and the skills dont look bad. Good party face that isint dual crossbow lol

I always make Karlach a Wild Magic Barbarian for the flavor. She spent so much time battling demons in Hell, that she absorbed chaltic magic into her body. Also, I have killed more than a few badies with those little bomb things. But I love the mobile vines when that comes up. But yes, DnD loves giving you cool sounding abilities, then makes the Save DC so ridiculously low and never lets the Save DC or damage scale, that you end up never using them. Like the breath weapon of the Half-Dragon in 3.5. That thing was only good for lighting camp fires.

Yeh it's a shame when the cool flavored abilities are just blatantly worse than your other options. There are mods available for bg3 right now to make the Dragonborn's breath attacks stronger, so it must be a problem to this day lol.

@PanicRolling the dragonborn breath weapon in 5e is better than the Half-Dragons breath weapon in 3/3.5e. The damage scales with your character level and the save scales with your con and proficiency bonus. The HD breath save DC only called with racial HD, which player characters don't get. Half-Dragons unfortunately got no bonus' as they leveled, while Half-Angels did, they got tons of spells, and such as you leveled your character. I really wanted to make a Half-Dragon character that really took advantage of their natural attacks, Bite, Clay, Claw. There are feats you could take that would increase the size of the damage dice by 1 and a feat that would reduce, and then eliminate the penalty for secondary attacks so you could with 4 feats give yourself 3 attacks of 1d8, 1d6, 1d6 at full BaB, and with the HD +8 str racial bonus could still be competitive with most fighters despite the LA +3. You are very light on HP for a melee fighters though, and I would need a DM willing to allow me to permanently enchant the natural attacks and Natural Armor as if they were magic weapons/armor or you fall too far behind too quickly. Since the build doesn't really start to come into its own until lvl 7, when you can start taking the Improved Natural Attack feats and Weapon Focus (Natural Attacks). It's probably not very good build, even with a permissive DM, but it would be cool thematically. I actually really enjoyed the template system of 3/3.5e and wish they carried that over. For example, if you were playing a powerful Necromancer and wanted to become a lich, you added the Lich template onto your character, or a werewolf template to make a lycanthrope, etc. But in 5e, you really can't because those are fully 100% defined things.

You were asking about barbarian caster multiclass and someone called newdengs on KZbin posted a warlock barbarian multiclass video. They used armor of Agathys and mirror image as a warlock. So I suggest a barbarian multiclass with a fiend warlock pact of the blade if they want armor of Agathys, mirror image I guess your barbarian could also wear the robe that gives it for an extra cast of armor of Agathys and that works well for barbarian because they are cool with robes

@PanicRolling yeah armor of Agathys and Mirror image are good non concentration buffs so you can use them and rage. You can also use more weapons because your damage would come from Charisma. I highly suggest Fiend Warlock becuase it gets armor of Agathys, and if you decide to get to level 4 spells your agathys would upcast and you can cast fire shield that's the go ahead and hit me build and would work in regular d and d as well. Some other decent options Cantrips Guidance - its used outside of Combat and doesn't require stats Thurmaturgy - same reason as guidance Level 1 spells Armor of Agathys - temp hp that can also damage enemies. Defintely a good option since it can only be self. (I forgot draconic sorcerers could also get this in baldurs gate 3 so thats also an option although you are multiclassing barbarian so i doubt its better than going fiend warlock) Find familiar - can be cast before combat and no concentration so if you want a familiar its a good option. Level 2 Aid - extra hp that can be cast outside of battle. Mirror image - good buff that is not concentration. Warding bond - ironically good for the barbarian to cast on someone else because they are fine with taking the damage while raging. Level 3 Animate dead - isn't concentration and doesn't require stats. Blink - doesn't require concentration and could be used in battle. Level 4 I doubt you would get this high in spell slots as a multiclass but maybe. If it's the case I further suggest fiend Warlock because armor of Agathys + fire shield is going to be nutty. Conjure woodland beings - seemingly doesn't cost concentration. Seemingly alot of summon spells seemingly don't even though they typically did in d and d. Death ward - I'd suggest you just have an ally cleric cast it on you. Fire shield - it doesn't require concentration and if you combine it with armor of Agathys you'd be doing a ton of damage when enemies attack you. If you didn't pick bear heart it also provides resistance to fire or cold. Level 5 Nothing Level 6 pretty sure you aren't getting here as a multiclass Create undead - summons in bg 3 don't require concentration. Heroes feast - great but have your caster friend use this. Planar ally - great but I doubt you are doing this as a multiclass.

@@PanicRolling Bloodrager is great because at 11th level you can cast a self or touch spell using the pathfinder equivalent of a bonus action when you enter rage. If the class were adapted to BG3, that would be like casting haste as you go into rage, or casting mirror image. There’s even an archetype (equivalent to a subclass) that specifically wears armor. I definitely recommend you check out kingmaker and wrath of the righteous.

Regarding the barbarian-Thief combo, never underestimate the ability to dash as a bonus action to get into melee range in the 1st round of combat, then rage as a bonus action then make a full attack action.

Well there are some spells you dont have to maintain concentration on and use before a fight which would make sense for barbarian. Some spells you might care to use Armor of Agathys, false life, long Strider, aid, protection from poison, warding bond, death ward, fire shield, heroes feast. I think you are better off just having your caster use them on barbarians besides armor of Agathys and false life because those have to be self so i reccomend fiend warlock.

Armor of Agathys obtain via warlock or draconic sorcerer can be casted prior to combat, last until long rest or losing all temp hp, deals cold damage back when hit at melee and the temp hp last twice as long due to the damage reduction from barb. Not my favorite combo, but its there and usable

Yes but it's power increases based upon your spell slot level. And your barb improves at certain level benchmarks as well.

@@Quandry1 i know. Thats why I did say it was not a build I like or use, but it does use a spell that barb can utilize, since its non concentration that can be set up before battle. You can find some versions of that build on yt. Also you can bypass the need for multiclassing using the icebite robe for a lvl3 armor of agathys once per long rest.

​@ghastias6741 what I'm saying is it isn't actually really worth it. They are still basically antithetical. And not everything on KZbin is always as advertised. Your gained hp for 2 levels is going to give you more than upgrading AoA will grant you in temp hp. The damage is a nice extra but without upgrading the spell, the damage both becomes inconsequential but it also will have increasingly less chance to proc more than once... so depending on your choices you might be adding more and more consistent damage just by continuing to level barb. Also it gives you another Stat you have to focus in to combine a worthwhile warlock subclass. It's a combo that is really only good on the surface but not really worth it.

@@Quandry1 Exactly why I said I do not like it nor use it. But just to play devils advocate - you dont need to invest stats into charisma. Unlike dnd there is no minimum requirements for multiclassing in bg3, and AoA does not scale with stats only spells slots. But at minimum is +10 effective health (+30 with the icebite robes) and some chip damage, that can be doubled with the wet condition that can be applied by the Trident of waves or another party member. Regardless... it's a subpar build... we agree on that.

This includes most Patron spells. We do agree it is subpar yes, that so many push it as strong shows just how viable almost anything is in this game.

I think a good pick for a character to represent wild magic barbarians would be Broly. His power scales with his rage and at his higher levels of power he has to release his energy through attacks because he cannot contain the amount of energy he creates

On the Barb/Monk thing: I was messing around with a few OP mods, and used one that let barbs and monks combine their unarmored defenses into Con + Wis. A fun flavor change, from both sides, and VERY damn strong. But the incentive to run around with 8 Dex is not without consequence. You screw yourself with ranged weapons, Dex saves, and you're even worse with armor than a straight monk. Thematic and all but not enough of a tradeoff to even pretend it's balanced. Maybe there's room for a kinda balanced... Sumo Feat, or something?

I just thought of something I’ll try soon, but would a barb with reckless attack and sneak attack from rogues work together. Like a dex bard that activates it then has advantage so would that allow sneak attack.

the answer is yes but the weapons that it works with are limited because sneak attacks need to be done with finesse weapons. There's like 2 great weapons that have the finesse property (larenthians wrath and something else). Luckily Reckless attack does work on a dual wielder build it's just wise to multiclass fighter and rogue for the bonus action and fighting style to add your weapon proficiency to offhand damage. These are all game shatteringly powerful builds but also hyper specific.
