Changes: - Forgot to mention caves are disabled by default, so you must enable them. - Entering caves to cancel hound waves no longer works since March 2022 QOL Update. - Ancient Guardian can no longer be cheesed but his fight can be done with 0 damage with no speed bonus. - The Crafting UI Was changed which categorises items and structures, otherwise this guide is still valid :) Due to fundamental changes to the game including the crafting UI, I plan on making an updated version of the beginners survival guide at some point!

I honestly have no idea how a newbie is expected to remember all this information, while being able to effectively continue farming, exploring, and building. It's overwhelming.
@uBreeze Жыл бұрын
A bit late but as a newbie and someone who learns a crap ton about games like these when I hyperfixate on them. You’re not expected to remember all this information. Take in the information that is most beneficial to you. If you’ve been struggling at fighting beefaloo, remember how many hits it takes to kite them. If you’ve been struggling with sanity, learn how to take on shadow monsters. If you realize you’ve been playing too scared of pigs, take them on. Whatever, it’s a beginner’s guide. Something you can come back to and learn new things or resolve your struggles.

I hear ya. I try to focus on one season at a time and with each attempt, try to get through the next one. Pretty soon you're good at getting through fall, then winter and so on.
@ayumuchorizo4486 Жыл бұрын
As he said at the start the game is best experienced blind figuring things out by yourself. Players eventually learn which things take priority like hunger and light, then making a base, preparing for next season, etc. etc. It's all trial and error, that's why each failed playthrough is a funny memory (at least, it is for me!)
@corinnepowers9646 Жыл бұрын
1. Write notes about specific things you want to try. I limit myself to one sticky note at a time. 2. Only watch one season's worth of video at a time, the season you're about to be playing. (lmao why would anyone try to retain all this at once? You should have learned by now no human is capable of that; stop expecting it of yourself haha)
@JJokerMoreau Жыл бұрын
These comments make a lot of sense. But there's a reason newbies stand around the campfire all night - there's too much to think about. People need a moment to consider, and shuffle their inventory. The beginner guide here actually shows off a fight with KLAUS. KLAUS! Like. What?! I don't think there's a single beginner on Earth that can micro manage swapping between weapon and movement stick. And while getting familiar with insanity is, undoubtedly, a good thing. Many beginners won't want to deal with it, or can't. I think the Beginner guide was just a little bit iffy on a few topics.
@imaginari80132 жыл бұрын
The one server mod I would highly highly recommend for new players is something called "show me". It will help you learn the game so much easier and faster. This mod displays information about everything as you mouse over it. Mouse over food in your inventory and you can see the stats it will change. Mouse over a pig house and it will tell you how long until another pig spawns. Mouse over a tree and it will tell you how many days left in the season. Mouse over an enemy and you can see their attack damage, as well as current and max HP. This mod does make the game a good bit easier, however I think it's worth it at the start to help you learn faster. Turn it off once you're comfortable.

You might have noticed a hissing sound sometimes when he's killing butterflies or pigs, some creatures are considered innocent, and killing innocent creatures raises your naughtiness level, if your naughtiness gets too high you will start to hear that hissing sound, and if you keep killing innocent creatures Krampus will spawn, it's generally pretty difficult to accidentally spawn Krampus since you lose 8 naughtiness per day if you don't kill any innocent creatures, so you shouldn't worry too much about him, unless you decide to go on a full on bunny genocide you will be fine. Krampus is pretty tough and he steals your items, so unless you're looking for a fight it's best to avoid spawning him, but he has a 1% chance of dropping a krampus sack, which is a backpack with nearly double the inventory space. Quick tip: killing Glommer raises your naughtiness to 50, which will instantly spawn Krampus, so if you don't care about Glommer you have a 1% chance at a krampus sack every full moon

Very useful guide, I am a seasoned ROG and SW solo player on switch, and if Dst on that same console ends up playable, this will help me take into account all the different and new stuff. I would probably get into a few more fights. Destroying pig houses is very viable here because you can avoid summer in the caves or leave a space for a flingomatic. In DS leaving a space for a flingomatic is not easy, so I usually dont bother. I otherwise stick pretty closely to what you do outside of DST content, though I usually don't have bee boxes but instead 10 drying racks by the onset of winter.
@sklsdjf Жыл бұрын
I know this guide is focused on teaching players to fight bosses instead of avoiding them, but you can also pacify antlion to avoid sinkholes and even get his boss drops without killing him. you just have to feed him to full hunger twice a summer, which requires trinkets and rocks (you'll know he's full because he'll do an animation rubbing his tummy :3). it's a good option for players who don't like fighting or newbies who might not have enough resources hoarded to be able to complete the fight at the time. I mean, on your first run-through, you're probably going to want to take it easy anyway and just learn the ropes instead of spending every season killing bosses on top of managing everything else.

gimmie a break. I don't have a clue how to use a crock pot. Which is fine. Its more of a niche add on anyways. I got farms, air dryer meat racks, a fridge. A strategic relocation of trees, birchnuts, and a small amount of grass and berry bushes. (not to many as its really just a complimentary boon) I got a great setup to survive all seasons to be frank. With enough food stored away in the fridge, I can basically just sit the winter out at this point, while researching ways to get through summer time. Crockpots are great if you know how to use them but not a necessity. Oh and you gotta have a few pigs housed outside the concrete walls to act as your defensive guards. lol

Tip:1 . If you always forget to heat up your thermal stone you can use beefalo hats 2. You should dig mushrooms while finding base location 3. You only need to big meat for and ham bat 4.If you’re good at kiting you don’t need a log suit while killing pigs 5.Don’t make a miner hat just use a lantern 6.only make one top hat since insanity is not a problem 7.Don’t bring trinkets since they are very space taking so you don’t have enough space to get more useful items like reeds and charcoal 7. You don’t need to get charcoal too early
