Story time: Half an year ago i wanted to start boxing so I dug and found my brothers old gloves he used about year or so ago. We didn't have a bag at the time so I started taking the gloves and punching the wall with them. I wondered why my knuckle hurt so bad even with the gloves, so bad in fact time or two it started screaching like a goddamn door hinge that sounded like rubber rubbing itself when closing and opening fist Fast forward and I finally bought a heavy 130cm 40kg bag. I was terrible at hitting it at first, becouse I was used to flat wall as a target, so my hooks were bad and jabs weak. Just around that time just before the bag i looked at my gloves and realised they are 8oz ;-; This did allow me to hit the bag with bare knuckles easier becouse they were conditioned from the beginning, but didin't matter at the time becouse my punches were sloppy and weak. Fast forward one two months later (present moment) and still have the same equipment. Have lost some wheight and gotten my punches to certain ko type of level. I'm broke so I have no money for boxing club or any of that sort of training that has fees so I have sticked to daily home training with my resources. My gloves i should upgrade most likely. I haven't upgraded my gloves at all. I'm 14y years old 67kg 167cm male. What would be the best oz for me.

I'm 200 pounds and use 14 for sparring, never had anyone complain lol. Then again I don't spar real hard in Muay Thai and I wrap my hands with a lot of knuckle padding so there's that. I usually use 16 on the bag cus that's where I'm really hitting with power

anything under a 16 oz glove increases injury to your hands. This is speaking from personal experience. I've broken fingers with smaller oz gloves. Just putting that out there kings. take care of your hands.

my boxing got better when using smaller gloves because i had more endurance to perform technique with higher volume because I fatigued less. The big gloves are good when I want to condition or spar (to keep my partner safer) . But there’s no right and wrong . This is just what works for me

Bro I bought some BGV22 Fairtex gloves, however i got them in 14oz. Should i return them and get the 16oz instead? As most information ive seen, they say get 16oz for bagwork/mitts etc, since its better in the long-run. I don't want to use these type of gloves for sparring as the padding on the BGV22 is hard for sparring. I am thinking of getting twins in 16oz, for when i spar in muay thai though. However, im still confused whether to stick with the 14z fairtex gloves for bagwork/mitts or change it to a 16z. I do have 12oz gloves aswell which i do use for mitts/bagwork etc. However the padding is a bit depleted and they were just too light in my eyes for even bagwork so I bought them 14oz fairtex gloves.

Gloves don’t protect your hands bro 😅. When you think your hand is being protected people tend to hit harder and break them. Truth is gloves are a weapon due to the weight and help with stopping someone not protecting someone’s hands. There are less hand breaks in bare knuckle than in normal boxing.
