I just started practicing Muay Thai again, and on my off days (lifting days) my warm up starts with 5 minutes of skipping rope, 2 minute rest, 5 minutes 16oz shadow boxing with shin guards on, 5 minutes shadow boxing with just gloves and focus on boxing and head movement, and finally 5 minutes where I drop to my 4oz gloves with a focus on technique and speed. Also wearing my mouth piece the whole time. 2 minutes rest between each round, and using the down time to stretch for the rest of my work out. At the end of my workout I use 10 more minutes no rest to cool down and I put the 16oz back on no mouth guard, and just focus on staying on my toes with my hands up.
@nickgurr7830
@nickgurr7830 Жыл бұрын
How many days do you have off?
@caravaneerkhed
@caravaneerkhed Жыл бұрын
@@nickgurr7830 I do 3 days of lifting and 3 days of Muay Thai practice or cardio of some sort, so 1 full day off, and a week between body parts since I do a antagonist muscle split: chest/back, quads/hams, tris/bis etc. ideally I practice 3 days of Muay Thai for 2 hours a day, and my workout sessions tend to run about the same, and then just 1 day of rest. This is my ideal workout routine without getting into details, but it doesn’t always pan out this way since I have responsibilities that I need to attend to that can cut my exercise short or force my schedule to move around and I can lose a day of exercise.

Your workout sounds like it could replace my legs day easily,so I might do it instead of the legs day(as I already do only chalistenic exercises,nothing with weights) and for the abs and core I have 2 exercises that I am not thinking to replace ever,which is the hollow body form and horse stance(they are just incredible for core muscle,but horse stance helps with knee strength and endurance as well,which for me is verry important,as my boxing stance puts a strain on the knees)

I use 12 oz for the fact i want to know that my punches are good. I've heard that using a really heavy padded glove prevent us from getting good technique, because it will just absorb most of the impact and we wont know that if we actually landed it correctly. I've used 10oz before, and i was feeling my wrists sore after each workout. So i jumped to 12oz and i found it perfect. PS: i train at home :p

Gotta disagree with you on the no small gloves bit. Old school bag gloves, or my preference, my size fight gloves (sometimes 12s... and very often Winning 10s). The reason why is because you feel your punches. You can not punch incorrectly ever, or you'll hurt your hands. Smaller gloves leave you more aware of your hands (i.e., relaxed then close just before impact). A lot of bigger gloves won't produce that "pop" sound to help you know it was thrown correctly. Wrist and knuckle conditioning are included with smaller gloves. With less weight wearing you down, you can focus more on building muscle memory through higher reps with the right technique. Watch the gyms in Japan. Everyone is hitting the bag with 8s/10s. Incorporating footwork, head/body movement and other real fight techniques also go in hand with the extra energy you'll have. I incorporate heavy gloves for 4-6 rounds after my main heavybag training for some shoulder conditioning... but usually limit myself to arm punches. The rest of my shoulder conditioning comes from strength and conditioning and sparring. Nothing will make you punch faster and harder than good technique. Muscle memory is incredibly valuable in a fight. The more you can execute on instinct, the more data you can gather on your opponent.

Wearing 10 oz gloves or even 12 are good for pad work and even bag work it helps. 16 oz gloves are usually a lot bigger and wider it helps with conditioning but accuracy is very important. Most pro boxers change the size of their gloves. But overall 16oz is king because of sparring

A YT'er said 16oz gloves are not for beginner's, punching with any light weights or cables is bad blae blae. Yet YT can be so contradictory and exhausting with "true" advice on many subjects. Working out in the gym for best results with weights to build the strength, speed and power, thankfully now I do have but as an all-round fighter, including martial arts and boxing. I'm on a personal journey to be the best I can be, not for belt grades, trophies etc as too old at 50 lmao. I train on the speed and power on the heavy bag etc, and fighter's specific exercises at home from RB striking, overcoming isometric's, plyometric and mobility etc and weights in the gym recently for strength and fast twitch. Poor advice could be detrimental for beginner's or like myself on a journey. Ranting over 😂 😂 I trust what you say as learnt a lot from you Tony, open hearted thank you friend and have family in Tyne and Wear. From N. Wales UK

Hello again, Toni I wonder also if you can make a video explaining whether to use bag gloves or regular boxing gloves if you are hitting the heavy bag as a beginner and what the benefits are using a Velcro glove versus laced glove. In my case, I am learning to box mainly for self-defense not necessarily to spar or things like that although maybe I will do that in the future.
