This brings back lots of fond memories of me helping my dad cutting firewood. Of course, at the time I did a lot of the wood loading and gophering, he did show me how to cut a few logs. Must have been how it seeped into my blood. Your son will remember these days for the rest of his life.. Great content!!

The 545 is a great little pro saw. Light weight, lots of power, reliability, low vibration, good on fuel. I've cut some big wood with them with no issues. The one saw for all your firewood needs. The 550 is basically the same saw with a 3/8 sprocket and a little more power at a higher rpm. They nic name the 550 screaming demon. Both great powersaws.

Your kid is doing good with the camera. The 545, 550 and 555 are really popular in my area and they work great for most firewood. I like .325 chain better than 3/8 as I cut a lot of smaller stuff, it seams better cutting limbs.

Interesting. Is the 555 .325 like the 560XP? I could see that being an excellent choice. I really like a light 24" bar on my 562XP and could really like a .325 setup on it.

I have a 291 steel chainsaw it’s a little bit over 50 cc and I love running that but I graduated to the 500 I now that’s a powerhouse I have a gentleman down the road who had a Husqvarna chainsaw and he wanted to compare it with the steel to 500. I walk circles around it. But I enjoy watching your videos. You do a great job.👍

It also depends on the model of Husqvarna. A stock 500i and a stock 592XP and things would be different. However, there is always a give and take right? The husky would be slight cheaper, more powerful but HEAVIER. Your saws are awesome! Thank you for watching and commenting!

Good morning, nice day for cutting up some trees. Your December looks warmer than our December. I have the 455. Sometimes I would like a little more power. I appreciate your advice on the 5 series, because my next saw will definitely be a Husqvarna. I treat the 455 terribly. It even went for a swim in the brook and after all these years it still runs like new. Hope you and your cameraman have a great day, Ben 👋😎👍🪵🪓🔥

It’s great to see someone using a homemade wood guide instead of hocking some fancy buy here item, you seem pretty frugal! My wife saw all those branches and thought about all the mounds of good hardwood mulch you could create with a Split-fire chipper (have one they are great). I will get some resistance here, I have a Milwaukee chainsaw and have used it for 2 years and absolutely love it for the weight and versatility. Have cut down 20” standing dead oaks and locusts with it and no lack of power plus my wife can handle it unlike a gas machine which is too heavy. Your cameraman needs a hard hat with “Boss”!written on it! 😂
@oakiewoodsman

hahahah... love the "boss" thing. I have some very frugal mindsets however, as my channel grows, so does the opportunity for more tools/toys. I started using this measuring device after watching Russ at WIlleys Firewood. Gramps is 78yrs old and is a cutting machine. I figured if it was good enough for him, it would be good enough for me. I do utilize lasers from time to time cause I have them. There are limitation to every tool out there. The cool thing is I get to test em and talk about them. Thank you so much for watching and commenting! Be safe and enjoy that Milwaukee saw! I have seen good things about them

You’re absolutely right I own an echo 4910 which is a 50cc Chainsaw and I love it. It’s light and easy to use. I think the 50 and 60 cc Chainsaws do most of the work anyway. Once you get into a 70 cc Chainsaw they start getting a little heavy and it’s not something you want to use all day. Sometimes you have to take the cutting speed to weight ratio into account. All the different Chainsaws have their place.

I'm sure I told you before, but I have a McCulloch Pro 10-10 Automatic that they normally have 3/8" chain on a 16" or 20" bar on them, but when I bought it off of eBay it was already set up with a 16" hardnose bar in .325" safety chain on it. I switched out the bar to a 28" Oregon Powercut bar and swapped the tip to a .325" one and kept the 8 tooth sprocket in .325" and put the Husqvarna X-Cut SP33G safety chain on it which is pretty aggressive for being safety chain. It really cuts fast for an old saw because it has a lot of torque and just doesn't slow down compared to my newer Jonsered 2152 with a 16" .325" bar.

Great camera work by your son👍🏻 all around great saw! I'm also a fan of .325 for sub 60cc saws. If one has a saw they like that has 3/8 but just seems behind where it should be power wise, swapping it to .325 will make a very noticeable improvement.

@oakiewoodsman how long of a bar? I think 20" is the longest in .325, find a .325 sprocket/clutch drum that fits the saw, if you want 2 use a longer bar than 20" you'll have 2 have a replaceable tip bar and swap the tip to .325

@aaronpowell4885
@aaronpowell4885 15 күн бұрын
Doc nailed it👍🏻 .325 rim sprocket, bar, and chain would be all you need. But also, as Doc said, longer than 20" you'd need to make a "custom" bar by swapping on a .325 tip and spinning or having a shop spin up a loop with the right # of drive links. 23rs would make that 562 a lightsaber I imagine!

I agree with your advice today. If someone is just beginning to cut firewood for the first time & will continue to do so for years to come, I would start out by buying the best professional grade 50-60 cc chainsaw you can afford. I wouldn't mess with anything smaller, and that is most likely why the Stihl MS-261 (50.2 cc) is their smallest professional grade gas chainsaw. I am not a brand loyalty type of guy. An Echo CS-501P is $550, & the Husqvarna 545 Mark II is $620. Those prices don't include the 10% discount. A Stihl MS-261 is $690 @ my local ACE Hardware. I am pricing all three brands with 18" bars & .325" pitch chains. I would be content with any of these 3 chainsaws.

Thank you sir! I just cannot get behind the 501p. i have never run one but maybe I would like a muffler modded one. I like the 545 cause it feels so excellent stock. From what I can tell the 501 is nice and light but they really need some work to really be satisfying. I am less about usefulness and more about feel and fun while completing my work. I have that option and I like it pretty well. As you can tell, the fleet keeps growing (for the YT content sake) and I am quite enjoying that. I need to run my 460 pretty soon again. Maybe soon!

@oakiewoodsman I've never ran a Stihl MS-261, Echo CS-501P, or a Husqvarna 545 Mark II. That wasn't really my point. When I became more serious about cutting & burning firewood, I bought a professional grade 50 cc class chainsaw. It was the most saw I could afford ($379) at the time. That was 20 years ago, & it's still my primary chainsaw. I didn't even consider buying a larger chainsaw until a couple years ago, & it was my interest in the Echo CS-620P that brought me to your channel. I've only had to take my professional grade 52 cc chainsaw back to the saw shop once, and that was to look for a used muffler bolt that I had lost. Once we found one, I brought it back home. I could care less which professional grade chainsaw is best, because I already have one. I'm not coordinated enough to run/use two chainsaws at the same time! LOL!

To keep life simple, I have 18"/.050" gauge bars with .325" pitch chains on all 3 of my smaller chainsaws (2000 Poulan Farmhard, 2005 Jonsered CS-2152, & late 1990's Husqvarna 257). I prefer a .325" pitch chain on anything under 60 cc, & especially anything under 55 cc. I don't feel as worn out when I am using a nice mid-size saw. I'm not a big fan of long bars (sorry Buckin Billy Ray). They just make the chainsaw seem clumsy & off balance to me.

@@oakiewoodsman If you jump to a 24" VersaCut bar, you're no longer talking about 50 cc chainsaws. The sweet spot for 50 cc chainsaws are 16-20" bars with .325" pitch chains. I'm not saying you can't do something different, but a 24" VersaCut bar is going to be a 3/8" pitch for larger saws (60+ cc usually). Most bars over 20" are going to be for 3/8" pitch chains. Forester sells 12 different 24/25" bars (.050", .058", .063" gauges), and all of them are 3/8" pitch. I doubt that the oilers & oil capacity on 50 cc chainsaws are designed for longer bars.
