I worked with an HMMV that had an electronics shelter on the back of it for three years. It would go nearly anywhere. It was noisy, slow, and uncomfortable to ride in. While I appreciate its off-road abilities, it would be the last vehicle I'd choose as the base for an RV.
@JimYeats
@JimYeats 2 жыл бұрын
Cool vehicle. It will end up seeing limited off-road use by most purchasers due to its size and cost. Unfortunately as a Humvee base vehicle it will be a fairly uncomfortable tourer.

I don't know if the HMMWV is that bad for comfort, but the 4BT engine right beside the driver could be brutal. I hope the engine at least has balancer shafts.

@@brianb-p6586It will be bad for comfort. It’s a loud, slow, rattly, rough vehicle that was implemented in the 80’s. A new paint job, dash details, and some seat covers isn’t going to fix that.

@jim yeats I suppose it has military soundproofing (that is, none), so if they haven't upgraded that it would be loud.

The satellite trailer idea w/ umbilical is a good idea. There was an expedition vehicle made several years ago that not only had this , but the wheels were driven by the main vehicle as well, effectively turning the vehicle combo into an articulated 6x6. They look like theyre gonna have some nice stuff, man!

One reason I am not partial to a Sprinter because of the outrageous Mercedes maintenance costs and lack of readily available shops. What are the maintenance requirements for the Patton and would the engine be serviced by Cummins?

Good video. I like the basic idea, but the interior needs a lot of work to be comfortable. I didn't see a TV. I didn't like the refrigerator. I didn't see a fire extinguisher anywhere. I will keep an eye on this as it develops. You're definitely on to something.

Lol a TV? For what Linda? Look out the damn windows.
@lindaaaron9653
@lindaaaron9653 2 жыл бұрын
I know that 99% of what is on TV is crap and that it is a bug-out vehicle. However, 99% of the time that one uses the vehicle, one would not be bugging out. And even if you were bugging out, you would want to know what's going on out there. News reports and breaking news could be very useful. As well, if it is pouring rain outside, you're stuck inside a small space with others, it might be a good distraction. I've watched many rv videos. They all have TVs. I don't think it's such an LOL idea.
@brianb-p6586
@brianb-p6586 2 жыл бұрын
@@lindaaaron9653 I don't think that a TV is unreasonable, but an alternative is a laptop computer or large tablet, with a TV tuner accessory to receive broadcasts. That avoids building in stuff that is rarely used and becomes obsolete quickly.

The existing design, a modified version of the classic ambulance-type Hummer (which you may be thinking of), incorporates a bunk above the drivers compartment, you'd either have to lose the bunk (namely, the whole point of the modification!), lose the windows in the bunk space (another intentional feature of the design!) or add height to the whole vehicle (which creates other problems). What he has here is the best compromise to get all the features he wanted.

The step-in height is low for an RV - and very low for an off-road capable RV - because of the HMMWV's design, and use of the rear door opening and rear footwell for the entrance.

A 4BT? I hope it has a balancer system; without it, a 4B must be like driving a paint shaker. For those unfamiliar with the engine, this is a 4-litre displacement 4-cylinder. Cars have balance shafts on any engine of 2L or larger, but this industrial engine doesn't always have them. It is two-thirds of the common Cummins 6B six-cylinder (like a Dodge or Ram 2500 or 3500 diesel pickup), is typically used in industrial applications and in cheap commercial vehicles (delivery vans, etc.), and is often used without balance shafts.

How about offering a bolt on shell for us DIY‘ers ? I can do my own interior work, that’s where all the money is. A friend of mine purchased one of the smaller Earthroamers, set him back almost $300k. Had nothing but trouble with it, mainly with the electricals. That company should have hired an electrician from an ambulance manufacture, they know their trade.

🎉 If I could make a suggestyou know I mean they weren't. No, you seem to put a lot of counter space in there when really, you only need counter space when you're cooking so I would have put the burner over next to the sync and hat you need to mount disappearing towners. So either a pull out counter or fold down counters. That way, you can have more entertaining space. During the daytime. Don't give me wrong a lot of people like a nice kitchen but a lot of people also don't like a kitchen they only needed to eat which is three times a day one hour out of the day

I love the concept, but 350k is not reasonable. I spent many years driving a military hummer and they suck. 65mph max and a ton of heat coming off the engine. No reclining front seats and a lot of road noise. No comfort at all in the cab, making long drive unbearable. Only good thing is when they're off road, there's nothing better.
