The larvae are eating machines. 1:37 I sometimes dunk the crickets in water if I find in the wild as they might have mites on them. Amazing video though.

@@AntAus thanks, and yea, that sounds like a pretty good way to get rid of external parasites, do still need to be careful of internal ones though

@@antsepping Yes internal ones you have to look out for.

I remember as a kid them coming into the kitchen with wings during a storm. It was terrifying

👍🏻 It would be nice if you could point out the approximate temperatures and the different habitats, and which ones require hibernation or diapause.
@antsepping9 күн бұрын
Well for Myrmecia the temperature does vary for most species heat is not necessary and they can survive without it but those that come from the tropical areas and central areas may require heat as they are from warmer areas. Bull ants can be found in a wide range of habitats such as desert, rainforest, mountain, grassland, alpine but but most species are found in dry bush land. As a general rule Myrmecia actually don’t hibernate I’m pretty sure it’s an adaptation they have evolved due to how long it take for one to go from egg to worker.

@antsepping Thank you for the answer! I would find it interesting to see a video where you explain a little about the different habitats, which species occur in which region and in which habitat exactly! You write that Myrmecia in general not hibernate, Australia has so many different temperature zones, are there exceptions that have a diapause? Greetings from Germany

@ well, I don’t know ow of any species that do hibernate during the colder months however their brood does develop a lot slower

Thanks I found this video very useful sadly my two bull ant queens died randomly while I was on holiday. (I only left for two weeks and fed them just before I left)

@@Froztsc not for a while, one we don’t actually have a queen and two we don’t really know how to look after them, I will do some research

Having bullet ants is asking for trouble. Like caring for wasps. Just no reason to do it. Unless youre trying to build an army

Are bull ants and bullet ants the same? I thought they were different
