Your pronunciation of Nanaimo was spot on (if you’re ever in Vancouver you will hear the best pronunciation while on the Skytrain - naNAImo! 😄) The timbits would have been a mix of sourdough vs cake doughnut to account for the crispy vs soft contrast, and the Toronto Maple Leafs are a hockey team. Safe journey home!

What is hilarious is that while Toronto Maple Leafs are indeed an NHL hockey team, technically so are his 'fictional team' examples you gave. Anaheim Ducks were known as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, and the Carolina 'Hurricanes' are both NHL hockey teams too. Also you said 'nanaimo' pretty much correct, so well done!

Been loving the Toronto mini-series, Lord Beard, and glad to hear that you've had such a grand time here! Yes, Mrs. Beard will likely love the Ketchup chips, sadly they are an exclusively Canadian thing. You nailed the pronunciation of 'Nanaimo" perfectly, btw. When you return to Canada, though, you've got to stop by the Atlantic Provinces and treat yourself to a Donair! Spiced ground beef slow cooked on a spit, wrapped in a warm pita, and served with diced tomatoes and onions with a uniquely tasty special sauce! Thanks again for this and all you do! :-D

That was a good start! Here are some more uniquely Canadian junk food items you can sample on your next trip to Canada. We would love to have you back! Dill Pickle and All Dressed potato chips (crisps) Hickory Sticks (kind of like a crisp, but thin, hickory flavoured potato sticks). Hard to describe. Coffee Crisp and Crispy Crunch candy bars Beaver Tails (a fried dough pastry that can be topped with maple syrup, whipped cream or other condiments) Vachon cakes and pastries (a range of them available at supermarkets). You could also do fast food challenges at Harvey's, a Canadian burger chain (nothing special, but it's Canadian) or Swiss Chalet, a nation-wide chain of rotisserie chicken restaurants that are very popular here. I would be interested in getting your take on the Swiss Chalet sauce. Some Canadians loathe it, while others drink it up in one gulp.
