I used a book from the 80's that is still relevant. I am known for my correct use of color. Book name is: COLOR FOR MEN. ONCE you know what colors to wear you could use football team color combinations. The work is already done for you.

Don't knock it until you've tried it...LOL. I printed off a copy of the color wheel and hung it in my closet. It made it easier to match my clothes (which I did before I went to bed so I didn't have to try to do it in the morning before I had any coffee). I'm now retired, but it's still in my closet!!!!

An easy thing I do is go to paletton color palette generator. Since pants are generally always one color I punch it in and it spits out 3 other colors in different shades that go well together. Being in Michigan I wear lots of plaids, flannels, and checks. I usually have a shirt that picks up at least 2 of the colors it suggests.

Hi, John. There is actually colour analysis done that puts a person into a "season" which you touched on but it's a bit more detailed. I'm a "winter" for example. I've watched it done and you can really see the difference in how people look. Some actually looked sickly with the wrong shade of colour. Even jewelry can be a part of it. Silver vs gold for example. Recommend it for anyone wanting to look their best. Cheers.

Thanks Aaron!
@karlr750
@karlr750 2 жыл бұрын
I find the "season" analysis to be *less detailed* than the color/contrast analysis. For example, everyone with a warm skin tone gets lumped together as an autumn, regardless of their contrast level. People with high contrast and cool or neutral skin tones get lumped together as a winter. Et cetera. Moreover, the "season" analysis is *jargon* and lacks the clarity of the color/contrast analysis. Could you tell me (without referencing Google or some other source) what a "spring" or "summer" should wear? Probably not. But if I tell you that I'm medium contrast with cool skin undertones, then it's obvious that I will look best in medium contrast outfits in cool colors. The color/contrast analysis is more detailed and easier to understand. I think most people will do better using that, rather than the "season" jargon. For the people who already know and understand their "season," stick with what you know. It certainly works.
@aaronwright7266
@aaronwright7266 2 жыл бұрын
@@karlr750 Well, there are variations as well within the seasons. My mother for example is an auntum but can't wear certain browns. I guess whatever works for you though. My suggestion was more centered around getting it professionally done instead of a guessing game. They will often give you a swatch of colours to use as a guide. I've seen people use your method and look pale and sallow not realizing the undertones of a colour for example. In the end, many ways to the mountain top but the view is the same. Cheers.
@josephweber6980
@josephweber6980 Жыл бұрын
I also have used the "season" system with great success. Although I am an artist and a designer, I was wearing some of the worst possible colors in my clothing. The outfits looked fine, but not on me! I've found that most people without some artistic training have a very difficult time in discerning between warm and cool tones of the same color. The toughest colors seem to be blues and grays.

Maybe I've been doiing it all wrong but I prefer to match up my sock color with my shirt when I can get a match, then second choice is to match to my pants. THe exception is white where I would default to pants color instead of a white/cream shirt color.

I also like black and brown together, but it depends on the brown. For example, I like just about any color from beige to saddle tan to rust with black, but not the dark shades of brown. I avoid putting colors together that are too close to black in saturation and hue, like dark navy or chocolate brown. I don't want to look like I got dressed in the dark and couldn't tell one dark color from another. I love royal blue, cobalt, and ceylon-sapphire blue with black; there's enough difference in hue and saturation to black that the combination looks intentional, not accidental.

One way I look at color palettes and how they look on different skin is I see how players look in all the colorful professional sports uniforms like the NBA & European soccer. One example is the Cleveland Cavaliers uniform; it looks great on the dark skinned players, ok on white guys with dark hair, & horrible on white guys with blond hair.

@@dementedrojo83 Business casual dress code.
@alfacentauri3686
@alfacentauri3686 2 жыл бұрын
@@dementedrojo83 First you should get yourself a basic wardrobe that works in all situations and sufficient amount. Solids in white, blue, grey and beige. These colors are easy to combine. Black items also works but are usually overused. When you have your basics you can begin adding patterns and other colors, because now you always have something to combine them with. What items you need? It all depends on what situations you will meet. Business, with friends, family, your dear and on your own. There are also different seasons and weather. You'll need both formal and casual items. Yes, business casual is probably what you are looking for. Unless you are living in sweatpants I'd suggest you start off by switching to a button down or dress shirt, and upgrade your shoes. Quite noticeable but safe steps. And a nice jacket to meet the season where you live. It is also a part of your basic wardrobe. A black and a dark brown belt to match your shoes. And there you have started your style journey. Don't be afraid to overdo it sometimes and to make some bad purchases, we all have. And some people just need to get used to your new appearance.
@riothero313
@riothero313 Жыл бұрын
@@dementedrojo83 These guys are dead on. Start with solids in every neutral color first. In chinos, button ups, polos, shorts, sweaters, ect. Then get a pair of dark wash denim. Think about fit above all. Cheap chinos from target that fit right will always look better than ill fitting designer clothes. Once you have a solid base of neutrals then get some patterns in neutrals and then introduce some colors.

WAIT! - What? Low contrast means 'similar shades' or little difference in brightness to darkness in the same person. For this category you suggested: - Blonde guy with Light skin and BLUE eyes. Maybe it was the image you selected, but I think the darker African-Americans and those who have Dark hair, Dark skin and Dark eyes would actually fit the LOW Contrast category also (albeit the darker end rather than the lighter end of the spectrum.)

I’m gonna say that this video to me is one of your most important video I’ve watched among all the many great ones all year since being a sub. And I’m gonna say why. The matching of clothing, color, fabric, texture and how we all perceive colors in clothing on others is very important and for style. Many of us struggle with being good at color matching. And their is so much science to colors, color matching and wearing. Does this color make me look thin or bigger? Does it accentuate focus to other areas? What the hell does Cool or Warm even mean? Because I honestly have no damn idea what it means to dress in cool or warm colors, yet I fundamentally know it’s important. But the point is it all matters greatly in dressing and styling clothing and these things aren’t always well explained or explained well in show and tell. For example, I showing the still of a warm and cool color, I can fundamentally see the difference, but what exactly does it mean in me seeing it and someone else seeing and reacting to those colors warm or cool? Things like this need more understanding. Hence why I say all together this is probably to me one the most interesting and important video, because there is lots to understand. Thus hope we get more vids that further explains and show the differences as well explains them.

I do enjoy your channel and your insight, but like all the channels I check out I take it with my personal filter as an overlay. That being said the striped blue sports jacket you have as an example and have worn in another video is something to be donated to a thrift store! I wouldn't wear it if I was being paid to do it, sorry!!

I have experience with this subject and I want to say to the red haired/ginger guys with very pale skin, do not wear pure white...it washes you out guys...wear a cream or off white instead and it looks great on you.

I’m a cool shade & fair skinned Irish American man. The main color that looks awful on me & in my opinion almost all white people is gold + most yellows, & orange. Gold especially looks terrible (clothing not jewelry). One thing that jars with these color matching palettes is I think dark navy blues & maroons look great on me. They contrast with my hair and green/brown eyes.

LOOK TO NATURE! EARTH TONES WORK FOR ALL. I don't believe skin tone makes any difference. In terms of mixing patterns I say one of the colors or the canvas color of the two patterns should have one matching color to be easier on the eyes and more subtle.

You actually included all Indians in same category. India is an ethnically diverse country, I'm a pale skinned Indian.
