🎹 The orchestral score of Strauss' opera Elektra is an utter marvel. 🎹

Leonard Bernstein was a legend. The ultimate tribute to this great man is displayed in the movie Maestro with actor Bradley Cooper doing a superb job as playing the part of Leonard Bernstein himself.

I was disappointed with the movie.

Was just imagining Herbert von Karajan hugging member of the Berlin Phil the way Bernstein did with musicians. They were the 2 most famous conductors of their day, and polar opposites in most ways. One was stoic and introverted the other gregarious with many appetites and destructive habits.

@@jefolson6989 Tell me if I'm wrong but didn't Karajan insist that the musicians in the Berlin Philharmonic be all MALE musicians?
@jefolson69898 ай бұрын
@@Richard-b5r9v for most of his time, but one reason he "retired" suddenly was because he hired Sabine Meyer ( a female) without consulting the orchestra or board. But the all male policy ended about the same time. Was true of Vienna for many years as well.

Missing Szell and Frizt Reiner, arguably the two greatest conductors of the 20th century. But that's quibbling. Great video.

@timmellin28159 ай бұрын
I know....he always looked bored and disinterested and wanted to be somewhere else. It's almost like he knew his best efforts were in the composing; presenting the music itself was maybe an anticlimax....his work had concluded by that time, so conducting was just a fait accompli. He was so cool that he could take that attitude. He knew his work was so great.....kind of like today's athletes who show up and say: "I'm a bad dude......no effort needed." But Strauss actually lived it.
