Just so you know, reading the base nutrition facts the way you were is actually quite misleading. I agree that the "bad" foods shouldn't be fed, but the percentages of protein, fat, ect. isn't as bad as they seem at first. You add water to the powder foods and when you do so, the protein percentages and fats and fiber actually go way down. That's because you are increasing the moisture percentage. To get a more accurate comparison, you have to use the dry-matter-values. Dry-matter-values are basically the nutrient percentage with the moisture in the food removed. Here's an example: Base nutrition facts: Pangea watermelon Mango complete: Crude Protein Min 21%, Crude Fat Min 3.5%, Crude Fiber Max 8%, Moisture Max 6% Nat Geo Gecko entree: Crude Protein 4.5%, Crude Fat 0.15%, Crude Fiber 3.2%, Moisture 80% These look extremely different, right? But let's look at the DRY MATTER percentage. Dry-matter facts: Pangea: Protein 22.3%, Fat 3.7%, Fiber 8.5% Nat Geo: Protein 22.5%, Fat .75%, Fiber 16% That's a lot more similar, right? So while they are not great foods, they certainly aren't as bad as it seems at first glance. The dry matter percentages are pretty easy to calculate. The equation is pretty easy. (ingredient%) / (100 - moisture%)*100 = Dry matter So for the nat geo protein, the equation would be ((4.5)/(100-80))*100 = 22.5 I hope this helps clear things up and make diet reviews a little more accurate, even if just for your own sake! I look forward to seeing where your gecko breeding projects will take you, I hope to take home some of your hatchlings some day.

You said they eat a lot of figs in the wild- we have a huge fig tree in our backyard that makes thousands of figs every year and while we eat some of them many fall and go to waste, could I feed some to my crested geckos? And if so would they have to be starting to rot for them to want them?

Would love to see your opinion on jelly pots, Komodo CGD, all of the HabiStat CGDs and Arcadia's ReptiGold! Great video :) Currently my crestie will only eat insects. He/she is 6 grams and whilst he/she ate Repashy at first, his/her appetite just disappeared for it and now he/she is on a rotation of locusts, crickets and newly moulted meal worms. I've read that this is a frequent occurrence and they usually go back to CGDs at about 9g; have you experienced this?

I would continue to offer CGD to your gecko. 99% of the time in cases like this the gecko will eat CGD, it's just that people don't notice it. I would recommend feeding Repashy 2-3 times per week and gut loaded crickets once per week, and your gecko will do great. Thanks!

I was laughing so hard when I went to a pet store to buy crickets and super worms for my centipede and tarantulas. I asked the employee what do they feed the crickets and super worms, he said they feed paper to the crickets and sand to super worms. Hahaha. I still bought anyways because I'll just gut load them and my animals can wait anyway because they only eat once a week.

Victoria Piquer hi I don't know much about geckos because I don't keep one but regarding of the live food I think dubia roaches is the best, of course this is based on my experience on keeping tarantulas and other reptiles. The only down side of feeding dubia is that they play dead and dig into the substrate. For the best feeding response the best live food is Blatta Lateralis roaches because they move a lot don't dig into the substrate. About the crickets for me of all the live foods it is the most unnutritious and they are noisy and smelly and they kill and cannibalize each other even when you give them food especially the males because they compete a lot for females but regardless I still do use them as food just to give a varied diet to my pets but I make sure that they are gut loaded for a week.

So watching this,had me convinced to order the Pangea. There's not many shops in the Netherlands that sell as far as I know. My reptilestore only sells the rapashy and some other geckofood that I got with the animalpurchace. But that stuff is pretty flaky. Not very smooth. I'll finish that bottle to gutload my crickets with, with some fruitsmoothie. Curiously awaiting my Pangea order. :) PS I really love this channel.

When I first bought my crestie I bought the Zoo Med Start Tank Kit that included the Zoo Med food. I had force feed my crestie until I found Pangea. I also bought the National Geographic food palettes once when I ran out of Pangea as a fill in and not once did my crestie touch it. Not even I held a piece in front of him. I haven't fed my gecko crickets in a long time because I never really understood how to gut load the crickets. I am just now starting to gut load them by feeding them a few veggies. Would you recommend Fluker's Orange Cubes or Calcium Quenchers?

I had a gecko who actually did eat the flukers food for a short while. I was rehabbing him and he had trouble swallowing liquids and he was having trouble gaining weight and was super malnourished. And when an animal isn't eating much at all, even eating not super great food is better than no food. So I had him on these for a short while and he munched em up! It was kinda comical watching him crunch them, but eventually I found a better diet for him after trial and error, finding out what he could and could not get down. settled on pangea mixes in powder form where he just ate it as the powder and was given the occasional diced fresh mango and cut up wax worms or super worms (he also could only swallow super small things so he couldn't go for whole insects). He did okay with plain water as long as it was ONLY droplets so that he was forced to pace himself. No still water was allowed so he had an artificial only tank.

I much prefer phoenix worms (aka black soldier fly larvae) and vitabug mealworms to crickets for my Crested Gecko. Crickets smell, are noisy, and are jumpers which makes them more difficult to handle.

We start offering live bugs when they gecko are right around the 4 gram mark and 6-8 weeks old. Some will eat them right away and some take a few weeks to begin hunting.

I dont think the pet smart sells duby roaches just worms and crickets . they have wax worms butter worms red wigglers and night crawlers . not alot but being from kelowna bc canada we dont get alot its the only store that sell feeder worms .you can get crickets a few places but other wise its ordering wich i don mined but it get so hot in the summer and cold in the winter that they tend to come dead ....not to say i havent gotten home and found moldy worms from pet smart ...now i open in the store . we just have the one baby crestey so breeding our own would be such a waist ....especially with his tiny size he fits on my thumb ....yes i instantly fell in love with him the second i seen him .they said with covid they weren't supposed to let people hold them but the guy said i know youre local (guess he knew my adult daughter ) so he let me and his little jelly pads on his feet were the best thing i ever felt on any pet ive ever had !! So i had to buy him . i just wanna give him the best care ever he gives me so much joy . even though hes still getting to know me .

Crickets work better from gecko to gecko ,some have a huge benefit and they grow way faster ,but for some it 's equally good even thow they don't necessarily grow faster

ok so i got a baby crested gecko today. on the advice of the store owner i bought the only food they had. but aftet getting it home and looking at it i realise its one of the rubbish ones from this list. i have other food coming, but i dont know if it will be today or tomorrow. will the baby be ok with no food until i get the proper food
