I built this fishing kayak trailer for under $300! In this video I am going to show you how I built the best kayak fishing trailer for under $300. This fishing kayak trailer setup is super functional with plenty of storage for all of my tackle and gear.

The rod locker might be a ticket waiting to happen. Here in Texas nothing should stick out the side more than 6" from the wheel/ body. Check your state regs before mounting it the sides Great build! I had to replace one hub $100+

I have a similar idea but using a 5x8 utility trailer. That way I can keep all my fishing gear on my trailer and keep my car clean. I've got a similar size SUV. I'd love to get a kayak too eventually and I've noticed there's no one doing these types of builds. There the smaller beach carts but nothing on a slightly larger scale for like weekend trips or going kayaking. Be great to have my camping and fishing gear stored and ready to go when I want to go.

I would really love a better close up of how you anchored each unistrut to another unistrut. I can see that the vertical struts are not mounted in line since the trailer tapers in towards the front. So the horizontal strut must be at an angle. Did u cut out an angle or did you bend the horizontal unistrut to be flush with the vertical one?

Sir, I am just getting started on my build. I too am on KZbin trying to build my channel. My trailer is going to be multi-purpose as it is a bigger trailer (dual axle) 6x 12. In watching this video and a few others where the builders are using unistrut, I think that is the best approach for my build, as I need to be able to dismantle in a short amount of time. Did you weld any of the unistrut to the frame or bolt on everything? The brackets you use to connect the unistrut were you able to get those locally or did you have to make them yourself? I have never worked with unistrut myself, so looking for any tips, pointers, etc for bolting my setup together, e.g. using spring nuts vice regular nylon lock nuts, etc. I have an ARB Awning and Room to go on one side, and Yakima rod locker like yours on the other, one maybe two kayaks, all the totes and all that will be in the back of the pickup, so really, just looking to use unistrut to make a way to hang the ARB awning & room, hang the rod locker, load the Yak, and add solar and shore power to it. Man that is a nice kayak trailer you have. I really like how you have it setup to your needed. I have been looking at some kayak trailer for about a year now. I'm trying to figure out if I want to buy one already set up or buy a use trailer and set it up to my needed. The cheapest one that i found that will be set up already to my need cost $1,500 dollars & go up to $3,500 dollars for a kayak trailer. Trailers can be very very expensive man. I'm looking for a trailer that can haul 9 Kayaks at once plus some gear. Brother I do have a question though? How do those tires hold up for highway speed? A lot of the tires that I'm finding max out about 60 maybe 65 & I do a lot of Interstate driving so I would like to a least do the speed limit. I like your trailer brother that is really really nice. You take it easy brother and be safe.

That rod box is damn near $700. For those who want something similar, search DIY rod tube. Can be made for roughly $50-75. Awesome trailer build man!

I’m torquing and twisting to get a bolt started on the angle brackets. The uni strut is easy to manipulate and work with.
