I have watched and saved every video I could find on various horses, ponies, and mules made for working wood, spoons, leather, etc. Yours is the best among them. It is simple to make, sparing in its use of materials, easily modified and extended, and only limited by one's imagination. Normally I would have said inexpensive rather sparing in its use of materials buy, there is no inexpensive lumber today. I expect the only way to make it cheap is to laminate recycled wood. Then you would be trading time for money probably at an unfavorable rate. I've designed and built things for 70 years. Everything from a retail fertilizer plant, my own farm machinery to some of the hardware and all software for a networked fertiliser applicator. I also trained and worked in the family vocation of carpentry stating when I was 11 or 12 when dad found out I could use a hammer left-handed better than he could. You have done a good job designing this tool. If I make one of these the first thing I will use for is to carve a more ergonomic seat with better padding! I will also give a good deal of consideration to using tapered wedges or pins to better lock something in place I have in mind.

THANKS so much! I just finished making this shave horse per your plans. It works great on my hiking sticks, so much easier on my back than sanding bark with an angle grinder. I was able to use up a bunch of scrap wood, and only had to by the metal rod. The adjustability is perfect, to get alignment just right. WONDERFUL PLANS!

Great job and thanks for sharing!
@davemartin15343 жыл бұрын
Maybe some one has already suggested this or not. The stitch pony make some longer jaws for it to hold a hand saw for a hand saw file n vice. Just realized you get many more attachments you are going to have to pad that seat up cause you are going be setting a lot more often. Also a good light attachments (use led bulbs lots of cheap light and ain't as hot producing in close work )would be great addition and not to mention😊 don't forget a cup holder.

Hey add a work table to your system for staining an painting but also for other stuff a 4 FTC 8 ft table to comes in handy for out door cooking,lol an you can take it off an store it away. Great design son . An greatest design I've seen for spoon work . Build a shave horse an sell it then give them a picture of your addition set ups an sell dose separate also sell the plans .

@@saveoursecond8738 Sorry I didnt think of a cut list. The base can be made from two 8 foot 2x4's if you lay it out without any waste. The rest I made with material I had already. Im sure it would not even be a whole 8 foot 2x6. The bowl head I have not had a lot of time to use and I didnt really end up liking how close the front jaw was to my chest. To move it back I would have had to shorten it and I just never finalized how I would change it. I tried to make it clear of what was included in the plan description.

Finally! Hello friend, and thank you so much for sharing this video with me and everyone else! Like yourself, I’ve watched so many videos and spent so much time looking, watching, seeing, and even though I came across your video a while back, yours has been a real eye opener! The magic in it is the simplicity you’ve built into it. Brother, you have to protect this for all you’re worth. This is just perfect. The beginner can easily make this with basic tools. The more advanced woodworker may want to modify, but all in all, you’ve done a great job here. I can’t say enough good things about it. I’m 90% done and anxious to get started using mine. I’ve incorporated a metal tractor seat to make my shave horse uniquely mine. Thanks again so much. It’s been a while since you’ve finished yours, but I’m just starting! So what have you made? Take care friend, best wishes to you. Andrew

I also have very limited shop space with a lot of tools. So space is a huge consideration. I had plans ready to go for making my shave horse and am no longer going to use them as I like yours the best. I will be purchasing your plans, which is something I rarely do as I normally just make my own plan based on my ideas and those I have found. But...why invent the wheel when you already have a nice round wheel that works, and you have worked out the dimensions. Bought the lumber yesterday. I will make my own knobs on the lathe. I will also run the 2x4s through the jointer and planer for a better finish and precise dimensions. Your nice simple design with interchangeable heads will work well for my needs.

Well done. Thank you for the video. I too have looked for plans to make a shave horse that would fit me. My plans were basic sketches with the measurements coming from the height of my most comfortable office stool and the most relaxed out stretched reach of my arms and legs. Not wanting to spend a lot of money I picked up some pallets and salvaged the wood to make myself one. It was my first real attempt at making a solid old time tool. But someone liked it more than me(5 finger discount off the back of my truck) the rat / rats. Yeah I probably should not vilify vermin that way. Made a second one out of the leftover 2 x 6 pallet pieces, but I made this one collapsable as not to be seen when transporting it. Still tweaking my personal design, so after watching this I know just what I'm going to do. I will cherry pick and make my additions and changes to suit my work in progress. Then once it is to my liking, make one that is not so Frankenstein, out of some better quality wood to pass on to my son. I will say, junk wood or not, the first one you make is always the most exciting! Big guy that I am I will definitely stick with 2 x 6 stock at a minimum, stain the woods before assembly, and a little more padding in the seat (LOL!). Comfort makes the tasks at hand more enjoyable. Keep up the good work and again thank you for sharing your time and efforts.
