“Don’t say I didn’t warn you!” That was great! This is a very good Fountain Pens Introduction video and it should help beginners quite a bit. I learned something too, even being a constant user for about 3 years. I had not thought about why you should not dip a converter into the ink to fill then attach it to you pens feed. I had not thought about the corrosion aspect, but, I do wipe down the end of the converter before I attach it. I also wipe down the end of the cartridges after I syringe refill them. I just like the good pen hygiene, I hadn’t thought about corrosion.

Okay, it's a secret that's not a secret. Fountain pen ink can really set you back. A bottle of 60 ML usually start at about 7 bucks, depending where on the world you are. For most of the time, I write with ecoline waterpaint or even cheaper... food colouring. Here in The Netherlands a bottle of 70 ML food colouring (True it's more green than blue) only is 2.25 Euro's. Especially if you're like me and you write your pages only to throw them in the trash once you're done with them, is a lot cheaper. I admit, it's not as smooth as normal ink. And I would use it in a more expensive pen. But as an author, I only write my books by hand, to re-write them when I put them in a word document. After that, I don't save my handwritten work. So why would I use my expensive ink on that. Food colouring works just as good. As long as it's liquid enough.
@kyokusei6 жыл бұрын
Christiaan Bronoord Yeah I agree with that. I just watched his video on that yesterday, although I don't know how long food coloring would last without fading, since I typically write in a notebook which I may reference later in the year rather than throwing it away.

I ended up loading from a bottle and I did it exactly the WRONG way by loading straight into converter because I couldn’t get ink to load through the nibs 🤦♀️ I did wipe it all down. Is that a real problem to put off the converter and fill it with ink out of the pen, the replace it into the pen (after a rub into a towel) ? With a Lamy Aion I see no alternative. If you put the pen straight into the bottle, ink will mark the grip section. I did it once and can still see the purple stains of ink I was using at the time. Was I wrong all this time ? ... :/
@kanishka.b85505 жыл бұрын
Saucissauce nope I guess! Give a good wipe & it’ll be good....the main down side is lot of ink is used to saturate the feed and only a small amount of ink is left given that converters tend to have lesser capacity than cartridges!

I have been building a list of fountain pens I want to try for my introduction into using them again. (I used to use one in grade school and loved it until it broke and I was not allowed to get another one for some stupid reason I still do not know) The list so far is: Junhao 250 Med. Nib - Moonman M2 Fine Nib - Twisbi Eco Fine Nib. The latter two I have seen listed on many forums and reviews as good pens, your videos included. What kind of ink and paper would you recommend for a beginner that is not expensive? I am going to be starting back to school next year and need something that will be smooth and dry fast but I need a paper that will not let in bleed through too much. Currently the pens I use are, an Inc R2 Rollerball that I only use for diagrams and things that do not need a fine point as its a 0.7mm point and bleeds quickly so the lines come out between 0.9mm and 1.2mm. I use a Pilot Precise V5 RT which is a 0.5mm gel-pen. I prefer the pilot because it creates nice fine points but it is not as smooth as the R2. I use them because I cannot stand feeling the pen drag across paper and I do not need to apply any pressure to get them to write. Currently the standard notebook paper I use does not give way to bleeding unless I use the R2. Current Ink choice is one I have seen in many of your videos, its the Pelikan 4001 Royal Blue. Any advice you or anyone who reads this can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Can you do a review of the Moonman 80? It's a bit more pricey at around 12 European euros though. I have a Parker 51 but it needs a lot of maintenance and I don't want to loose it (highschooler on the way to college). The M80 is a Parker 45 clone and it looks so good, half hooded nib btw, but it's a bit pricey and I don't want to be left with a pen that is too wet and has too thick of a nib (case in point, my Jinhao). I like me wet but fine or super fine with minimal feedback.

Keep the Parker 51 it is a classic. If needs repair just shelf it even if a few years until you can afford it. A real old school classic.
