such a well laid out video, thank you. one question please -> using your aoe freeze spells to shatter, do you ever do that for comet storm since it is sort of dmg over time and i assume the freeze debuff falls off the target sometime during the comet storm after the first instance of damage. Do you have any sort of window to continue shatter something you have froze after the first damage the frozen target sees? seems to me aoe freezes are best to amp dmg some briefly in aoe or for mostly glacial spikes when out of flurry charges. on the same line of thinking, i wonder if i attemp to shatter a GS without winters chill if my frozen orb/blizzard may eat the brief freeze i put on the target unless it ligners for some small amount of time. thank you.

Be honest, which is harder to get down: Frost, fire, or Arcane? These rotations are all so complicated now. Well for an older gamer anyway. Great guide but I don't think I can mentally compute this all.

@@Toegrinder Do you think this frost AOE is a lot harder to get right than the previous(or noob) AOE, which was frozen orb, instant blizzard, ice lances until instant blizzard again, ice lance until frozen orb? I was with a pug frost mage last night and he was most likely doing what you are stating here and I was doing the easy(in my eyes) AOE. He was 427 ilvl and I was 416, but his dmg was so much higher. Even on single target, his biggest hitters were glacial spike, ice lance, and ray of frost. I couldn't get ray of frost with my build because of the instant blizzards and crits resetting frozen orb talents.

@@hameed Thanks! Problem is that I am stuck on the fb-flurry-ice lance-ice lance st rotation and the frozen orb-blizzard-ice lance fingers of frost-blizzard-ice lance until orb it up again aoe. And I tried doing those in a raid last night, was only getting 45-55m dps at 418ivl while a 416ilvl frost mage was in the 60-70m dps range.

so i have been playing frost for awhile now and one thing i cant figure out is... when i sim my guy blizzard on 5 targets is like 18% of my damage and when i actually do a 5 target test on the dummies its like 13% of my overall. i thought i was just not casting it on cd but after awhile i thought there is no way im not casting it on cd. so i recorded myself and i have found that i cast it almost always on cd with the exception of waiting .5 seconds for glacial spike to end. so i was hoping you, the expert, could tell me what might be causing that issue

Thanks for the video. I am searching for two answers: 1. if winters chill runs out during ray of frost should i cancel it or keep it till the end of cast? 2. Does comet storm need winters chill on target as it hits it or just during cast? (should I wait for all comets to hit before i cast lets say ice lance to use it)

1. keep casting 2. on impact, you should ideally use Comet Storm on the first stack of winters chill so you have time to use 2 spells after

Great guide. very helpful. Two points of feedback. As a viewer I want to see relevant single target dps on a on level dummy. And two, no place in mage hub as sims comparing the high end dps potential of each spec vs one another.

Thank you for the guide. I have a quick question. I realized the simc profile drastically changed for frost and the gear profile seems to be taking a lot of versatility crafted items compared to the profiles before, and keeping crit to around 25%. Is there a reason for the sudden change?

Thanks so much for all of your work for the Mage community Toegrinder! Quick clarifying question in AoE, particularly for your opener: If you cast Orb -> Blizzard -> Comet Storm, then Cone of Cold -> Comet Storm right after, you should be able to get 2 shatter values for your 2 Comet Storms from the singular Winter's Chill applied by Coldest Snap, and thus saving you another shatter-inducing spell CD, correct? I just tested this with base 32% Haste even outside of Icy Veins and both Comet Storms dealt their damage within the WC duration applied from CoC. The difference here would be one spell GCD (Frozen Orb right after Cone of Cold) that you are overlapping the Numbing Blast debuff applied to mobs via Comet Storm, but you save yourself a potential shatter-inducing spell for the Glacial Spikes you're weaving in when all of your other AoE spells are on CD. Very silly and minor question I know, but I just want to make sure I'm performing optimally. Cheers!

any reason to note use the phial of corrupting rage? it sims highest for me by 600 dps over elemental chaos (takes me from like 25% crit to 30% crit)

Maybe if you're bad at not getting hit by avoidable mechanics then Corrupting Rage would be worse haha, but overall it does sim like WAY better than any of the other practical use phials (if it brings you to under 33.3% Crit after applying it)

blast wave is pure util, you use to reposition mobs, eg to move them away from sanguine pools if they're casting

Casting it yourself is definitely worth if you're happy doing it to avoid munching. That said you'll mostly be fine if you leave it on autocast

With subzero being halved on reset this week do you still recommend it for M+? How close is it to splintering cold now?

It's still playable but becomes more comp dependent. I think I'll probably switch to splintering cold but I'll need to see

How do you shatter the first comet storm in your aoe rotation?

you should cone of cold immediately after the comet storm - this will reset comet storm while also applying Winter's Chill to everything from Coldest Snap. The you comet storm again while the winter's chill debuffs from the CoC are still on the mobs. If CoC isn't available, you can frost nova right after the Comet Storm. If you can't get into melee for some reason (CoC is very short range), you can use pet Freeze or Ice Nova right after the comet storm - hope that helps!

Hi, I am not Toegrinder, but maybe I can help with those questions! A proc is any effect that can activate randomly or when you do something, for Frost that for example means Brainfreeze and Fingers of Frost. They have a chance to activate or “proc” when you cast certain spells and then you can spend them by casting other spells for increased effectiveness. As for action bar, Toe has his action bars hidden, so I am not sure which part you exactly mean. If you mean the bars in the middle of the screen, between the health bars, those are not action bars, it’s a WeakAura. WeakAura is an AddOn that can be configured to show a wide variety of different things, in this case it shows the cooldown of his spells and the amount of Icicles he has stored. In case you mean the scrolling display of spells, that is an AddOn (there are also WeakAuras for it), that only shows what spells you cast in which order and is not really useful for regular players, it’s more a thing for streamers and content creators to show what they are doing more clearly!
