I've watched a half dozen videos on how to do the CAM swap in an LS, but I like this one best, few important details were left out but the video was a start to finish install which is what I've been wanting to see. Before they removed the old camshaft, they spun it around to raise all the lifters in their bore. The long white things are to stop the lifter from falling back down into the bore and creating an obstacle when they reinstall the new cam. Hitting a dropped lifter could potentially damage the new camshaft or the lifter that may be struck upon installation. Even a little nick in the new cam could have catastrophic results down the road.

the sticks holding the lifters up is common practice, you can go ahead and watch engine masters do the same thing with every LS cam install. its also a roller cam so its not as critical that it goes in lubed (the lobes at least) the bearings should be oiled and since this is not the first cam installed in this truck I'm going to hope the the bearings were at least oiled.

Thank you for the video. One question: i have a 2009 gmc 2500hd sierra year 2009 6.0 liters with 140 k miles, and was told by the dealer they found roughness in rocker arm from worn camshaft lobe causing low pressure on one cylinder and they said to replace camshaft and lifters. But another shop said it was just better to just order another remanufactured engine because there is no point in putting new lifters and new camshaft into used worn out engine with worn parts that might be failing also or that might start to fail. What is your recommendation? Thank you
@trentpatrick47276 жыл бұрын
The shop that said you needed a new engine is just trying to get after your money. Replacing the lifters and cam isn’t super expensive especially if you do it yourself. However if you have one of the gen 4 afm motors it might be more of a pain / more expensive
