Thank you for the lecture. You mentioned that the correct saying in Japanese for "Who gave it to you?" is ”だれに もらったの?” And I cannot say "だれが くれたの?” because I am not the one who gets the present. On the other hand, is it also correct to say "だれは あげたの?” Thank you for you advice.

I think 16:55 is the source of confusion when it comes to these verbs. There is a difference in English between when you receive and when you are given.くれる still is the act of giving, not receiving, that is why the subject is still the giver. At 46:57 you ask us to translate "Who gave it to you?" Which would translate to 誰が(あなたに)あげたの。You do translate it with だれにもらったの。But that translates to English as "From whom did you receive it?" もらう is the act of receiving, not giving. Summary: To give あげる neutral, I give, you give, she gives, they give くれる humble, I am/we are given (only when you or your family is the recipient) To receive もらう neutral, I receive, you receive, he receives, they receive いただく humble, I am/we are receiving This is still the least confusing lesson on this topic I found so far. Thank you Miku.

Thank you so much, Miku-sensei! :] In order to keep track on what I've learned and all the material you give us through Patreon, I started a OneNote notebook and called it ローラの日本語ノート. Not sure whether this is right, though :D But now I have a grammar section where I arranged all the expressions I've learned so far and I included links to your videos and your shadowing audios and pdfs along with more example sentences, explanations and other links. Took me quite some time working on this video and writing down alle the rules and examples. But it's so worth it. I still think of myself as a beginner but looking at my OneNote makes me proud. Especially because I've been learning Japanese for over a year now. But all by myself because my current workload makes it hard to attend classes. So I'm making slow progress but still... it's more than I knew a year ago :D I'm looking forward to your next videos! They are so entertaining! Glad I found you! :]

Hi, Miku Sensei! I don't have, as of now, a Japanese keyboard to write in japanese, so English would have to do! I started learning japanese with one of those intermediate courses, which had tons of historical stories, so I must admit that it helped me not only to learn a lot about the language, but also about japan's history and customs. I also had lots of japanese acquaintances and some good friends and so on, so speaking japanese wasn't an intangible to me. Then when I finally visited japan, I bought some useful and interesting books, at least for me. Amongst them Seigi Ozawua's biography in japanese, the former Boston Pops orchestra conductor, and read them all. This was a long time ago and since I wanted to refresh my Japanese, I came across one of your videos. I'm fluent in several languages and I must confess that your lessons are not only fun to watch and helarious sometimes, but VERY informative and insightful. As a matter of fact you have cleared up many grammatical doubts I had that my Japanese friends didn't know how to explain and made me aware of nuances that I sort of sensed, but now I know for sure! Miku Sensei wa yoroshiku onegaishimasu! Honto ni umai Sensei da to omoimasu yo!

You don't need a japanese keyboard. Just go to language settings and enable the input method for Japanese. Then, you simply type in english and it will be written in japanese. Let's say you want to type 日本, にほん, you'd type "Nihon" and press the space bar and you'll get the options to type it in katakana, hiragana or kanji. I hope it helps.
