Hi! Your video is very helpful, thank you. One question though…. Can you machine wash the pieces with these glues? I’m new to the world of tufting and punch needling and I wanted to start with some small objects, like a small rug for the bathroom, some coasters for pots and pans, and some rugs for our cats to sleep on. Those need to be washed from time to time, especially the cat rugs (when they have vomited on it or something).

Thank you for your comment. Rugs made using this method aren't meant for machine washing. You can hand wash and clean them. Bathmats are made using a different method so can easily be washed in machine since they don't have glue on the back

Why not use the 3095 for attaching the backing too rather than the spray? Is it just ease of application
@tufttheworld2 жыл бұрын
We don't recommend using 3095 or other cheap glues from the hardware store. They are formulated for sticking carpets to floors. They're cheap and have clay fillers in them so will break down overtime and crumble. That's why we recommend these glues and process.

Hey tim! I'm going to get into this very soon, seems like such an awesome quarantine hobby for me. If I create a design in my art software, how would you suggest I get it onto the loom/canvas? I was thinking I could either print it out and sharpie it in to have a guide for the gun, or I could even project it onto the canvas with my home projector. What do you think?
@jonahjohnson58214 жыл бұрын
@@tufttheworld Thanks tim. When you say pile height on your website, does that mean how much or "high" the yarn is getting pushed through the backing? and if it's too high it can always be cut?
@timkirkpatrick17492 жыл бұрын
Projector works great. There’s a lot of great software is out there that assist and getting it the way you want remember whatever you project onto the back of it needs to be reversed so it’s forward on the top side of your finished product. There are many and multiple ways of putting your image onto the back of your project. There are some people that even take the drawings of of what you’re wanting to work on on a large sheet of paper poking holes in the lines and then taking a chalk of a light color, like a yellow or something and dab it so it goes in through the holes and then you can draw a line with a sharpie connecting the dots. Some people will put the design up to a window and hang the cloth up against that and draw it on the canvas there again with a sharpie there of even been people that have used paints. The process goes on and on. The key is to not get in a hurry take your time you can also use the spray adhesive and spray your monks cloth or whatever medium you’re going to be stitching into with your spray adhesive gorilla spray adhesive or whatever type you’re using and put a secondary layer of monks cloth over it. This is more work to punch your rug into. Recommend letting it sit for at least 24 hours before you start doing any tufting but you can then run 3 to 4 yarns through your tufting gun and get a heavier and thicker rug surface. Makes it much softer and it makes it nicer if you plan to do any trimming. I could go on and on about this. I do highly recommend using latex for your backing.Glues were not meant for a black backing. I wish you lots of luck and God be with you.
