Your backing is the best I've seen so far without actually binding the edge. Thanks for the tips.
@SamSam-esqe4 жыл бұрын
I’ve used the bond adhesive, Pros: dries mostly clear, is strong af, mostly flexible, almost no smell Cons: when trying to fold in those edges in tight it’s stiff It will not be tacky like the Roberts so it may not work with your current technique. Something I do to make sure I can get my spray adhesive all the way to the edge is I put masking tape over the exposed yarn so I can get closer to the edge and then for the backing I just make sure there’s something under it so I can spray over the edges. Your rugs look great though, I’ll definitely be looking for that backing. So far I’ve only used felt and they’re slick af lol
@defense3604 жыл бұрын
Hey! What type of felt do you like to use for backing? I'm considering switching to felt just cause it seems cheaper.
@SamSam-esqe4 жыл бұрын
@@defense360 I used just regular felt from Jo-Ann Fabrics. It works fine but again it’s very slick on a hardwood floor. If you go that route get the little sticky rug tags from Home Depot or Lowe’s to help keep it in place!
@manlymcstud85883 жыл бұрын
@@defense360 if you're going to sell these things, it should be easy to sell the customer on this method since it's already an expensive custom item anyway. if they won't come up off an extra $30 or so for durability, safety, and comfort, let them shop the guys who use the cheapest materials and tell them good luck. sell them on the fact that you're not profiting from the extra expense, and that you get what you pay for.

Just a thought that could save you time. Since you mentioned going back and fixing the edges to make sure they are stuck: why don't you spray the adhesive on the backing and on the middle of the rug and then put some other adhesive or superglue where the fabric edge is? This way you're gonna be sure the edges are stuck down and you don't have to go back and do the extra work! :)
@purextractions55812 жыл бұрын
so it doesn't get messy. High end art should be executed with patience leave the faster methods for the lower quality factories. going back and checking your work is why you go back and check your edges. lol either way you have to look. aka no time saved.

@AJMAKES1374 жыл бұрын
I haven’t done a ton of commissions, but it all depends on size, hours that go into it (depending on detail), and yarn type. Don’t be afraid to price them what you think they’re worth, even if it feels high! A lot of money and time goes into this craft and that should be reflected in your price ✨
