So good to learn about flagging. Watered in the morning, sagging by afternoon. I said to my, hydrangea,"You can't be thirsty."

Kelly, you never lose your touch with hydrangeas. You are an expert, and I have learned so much from you and my Mum when I she was still alive. I have started another hydrangea garden since moving to our new home a few years ago, however most of them are still young. Thank you for all of your helpful tips.

Thank you for putting this out, I'd never heard about flagging but that's good to know to recognize they're not underwatered. I do think that my plant might be somewhere where it's getting to much light currently so I might transplant if the fall
@KellyLehman
@KellyLehman 2 ай бұрын
That happened to me and I was so happy when I replanted it to a shadier location. It took a few years to get blooms but when it was established the hydrangea blooms were incredible and did not burn up in the summer heat .

I am a crazy lover of hydrangeas and I have full of them in my garden! I made a lot of mistakes these past 10 years and got better by informing myself but this year I found your videos and they are so interesting, YOU ARE so interesting listening to! I am sure I am going to get better as growing these magnificent flowers. Also, never been able to propagate them but I found your video propagating them in perlite and vermiculite and I tried it! Still waiting to see how it goes! Big thank you! I am from Montreal, Canada.

Wow, really enjoyed your very kind comment . Made my night . Sounds like we are both crazy about hydrangeas. . Let me know how the propagated hydrangeas do. You can also try to propagate them by bending a green stem to the ground and placing a rock in it so it grows new roots . By next summer , you should have a new plant . I made a video showing a more detailed version of this method. . Thanks again for your kind comment 🌸🤗

In central Texas, I had no luck with hydrangeas. Too hot and dry, plus water restrictions. In South Carolina, the hydrangeas bloom and bloom! Rain is magic!

@KellyLehman

You’re very welcome. Yes semi arid can be tough for hydrangeas since they love water . Have you tried growing drought tolerant plants like black eyed susan, catmint , or sunflowers ?🌻

Thanks for the video, Kelly. I am a hydrangea fan - one of my top 3...or 4 or 5 plants. lol. I have part of an Endless Summer that I thought was dead, but I saved a piece and it's flourishing in a pot. Do they do well in containers? I'm running out of garden space with morning sun, but I might find a spot for a container!

Good video! I have Endless Summer hydrangeas in containers in an area that gets a generous amount of shade and they do well. I wonder if I can plant Endless Summer hydrangeas in the ground in the same shady area and which variety will grow to 3-5 feet.

Thank you so much, I love your hydrangea videos! We have a place at the Jersey shore, and my “blushing bride” hydrangeas in the back of the house got so burnt up because of the heat. Kelly, should I cut them back now. They look terrible? I’m not sure if that specimen which we got two years ago blooms on old or new wood and whether it’s safe to cut back all the burnt blooms and foliage now? Really looks awful. 😢

Thank you for this! I had great blooms last year. (4th year) I didn't prune them, just deadhead. This year I have maybe 5 or 6. Not sure why. I don't fertilize. We live in central indiana. They get at least 8 hours of sun. I have these old wood stems that seem to have died somehow. Does that ever happen in the early spring when we have a cold spell? Just trying to figure out why they would have died and then all the sudden I have this huge plant with no blooms. Thanks so much again.
@KellyLehman
@KellyLehman 2 ай бұрын
You have good hydrangea instincts . Yes , the delicate new growth which is supposed to turn into hydrangea flowers is often frozen off of the old wood stems if there is a winter cold zap in spring . That’s why it’s a good idea to plant a few rebloomers like endless summer since they come in on the old wood stem as in early summer and then a second set of hydrangea blooms come in in new growth stems that started growing in late spring . These new growth stems will have missed the cold snap days so they should be good .

Why doesn't my hydrangeas bloom?
@KellyLehman
@KellyLehman 2 ай бұрын
It may have too much fertilizer in the soil, or it may not be happy with the spot it’s planted in . It f its only in the ground a few years it may just need more time to bloom
