You have such a gift in explaining things! This was so clear and methodical and just very...kind in general. Like I don't think a lot of people appreciate how others speak kindly when explaining things, but I really felt that you really wanted us to understand and succeed in doing this, and it's just such a nice thing to see. Thank you so much for sharing this knowledge to empower others. In my country, there is a saying that one of the best deeds you could do in life is to impart knowledge to others, for it will live on even long after you're gone and flourish into other good deeds as your knowledge is utilized. You, sir, are the perfect embodiment of that saying :) Stay safe and healthy always!

The van is sweet, very nice. i live in a '68 dodge dart. removed back seat. i have 100AH deep cycle battery with i charge using my alternator, no DC to DC. i have tricks up my sleeve. as for your video i approve *i Like, OLE'!*

Here's my tip : If you are going to do a electrical system Really do your homework on items that will upgrade your need for power (solar panels, Battery storage, A/C outlets, Charging rates And Alternators) Example : This Nissian NV200 comes with a factory stock 110 Amp alternator. However You can buy 220Amp Alternators that fit the same engine And if you shop around can get it at a good price This means you can charge your van with double the power while you drive or idle Not just Nissian All companies have high end models. And i would highly reccomend upgrading your wiring with Welder's copper cable wire 1/0Awg And hammered lugs for the engine grounding system. The next starting battery you buy Try to find one with Top And Side posts This will help If you need to add wiring And boosting I finshed off my battery And exposed grounds that in open air/water with battery spray protector This keeps them from corrosion alot longer And water free contact

Very good video. I'm glad to see someone say you may only need a 12 volt system. I am doing a van build (budget) and although I will have an inverter it will be a very small 500 watt. By doing it this way I saved quite a lot of money on wiring etc, but I can easily upgrade it later if I need to do so. Thanks for your story, nice build.

I'm also going for a dedicated DC appliances too for lights,fan and USB charging for my in the house. But still have a separate battery for AC appliances in my kitchen.
@edthelazyboy2 жыл бұрын
For many newer laptops with USB-C PD support, you could get a 12 volt DC to USB-C PD charger and skip the inverter all together. The conversion from DC to AC and back to DC would surely have more losses along the way. Also, I think it would be a good idea to carry a power bank so you can charge it while in a coffee shop and bring it back with you to the van.

@5:52 One more big advantage on Lithium vs Lead Acid is usable capacity. Discharging (using) greater than 50% of lead acid battery will permanently damage the battery. Therefore, for example, for all usage same, a 50 ah Lithium battery that can be use to run for 4 hours, 50 ah Lead Acid usage has to be less than 2 so it does not damage it.
@StoriesFromaVan3 жыл бұрын
Yep. That’s true. Lithium can be discharged 80-90%

Great stuff Evan. I am sharing this to our 4x4 Facebook group, the Four Wheel Drive Association of BC, with about 48,000 members. I am an electrical installer for these vehicles and can’t do near as good a job explaining this stuff, thank you. My interest is over landing, not urban stealth so I differ from your opinion on the LIon stuff. It dies too quickly and doesn’t agree with things like fridges that need to feel a voltage drop, then turn off until charged. I am pilloried for suggesting AC to DC charging and you explain it well. I hope you get more subscribers and can do more posts.
@StoriesFromaVan3 жыл бұрын
Hey Lory! Thanks for sharing my video! I'm interested by what you mean by lithium dying too quickly and fridges needing a voltage drop. I understand that lithium holds a steady voltage while discharging compared to lead acid. Thanks for the comment! Evan
@lory26223 жыл бұрын
@@StoriesFromaVan First, much of what I am saying is “what I have been told”. The drop off issue has been explained to me by a number of”experts”, for what that’s worth. There is more than one reason LIon would probably not be my choice. The main one is that drop off is too fast. They go from full to empty too quickly, they just turn-off. Some appliances will reduce their draw, or shut off and warn you of low voltage, but the LIon batteries don’t give that warning. Second, I live in British Columbia and we wheel into the back country, LIon does not like super low temps. It would be fine with your LV200 set up of course but most of us put the batteries under the hood. We all use AGM because they can function as a cranking, or house battery. Thanks for the great effort you have made, I am looking forward to seeing more.
@StoriesFromaVan3 жыл бұрын
@@lory2622 Ahh I see. Yeah, cold temperatures is one of the factors that would make you choose AGM over Li
