Without doubt this is probably the best video on static grass and it's multi-purpose application I have seen anywhere, thank you marklinofsweden for sharing this with the community! P.s. I will look to use these methods for my wargames table (TYW to Waterloo) and model railway layouts (Steam and Modern UK).

I am a model railroader in Japan re-starting making layout in N-scale after my child vacated his room to be independent. 30 years of blank period was huge to fill my knowledge with new products and technologies. (by the way, I used to work for Swedish company and visited Goteborg several times) Thank you.

Excellent wrap up of the needed techniques! I learned a lot also from your previous grass tutorial. Haven’t been that successful, mostly having trouble with my applicator, Grassmaster 1. The longer fibers just won’t come out of it easy.
@marklinofsweden
@marklinofsweden 5 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thank you! Yeah, I heard from others the the Grassmaster 1 was lacking in power. This GM2 deos a good job. I´m experimenting now to get better performance from the 12mm grass. I would estimate that only 10% of the 12mm grass actually remains standing after application and vacuuming, which is poor. It has to do both with the glue and the operator and the power of the applicator. Work is in progress!

Hello Marklin of Sweeden. I ve just discovered that making differents little dioramas as you. You can achieve the differents combinations of colour, height, density, leaves, And flowers is MOST important. To me, the enemy of the model layouts is the homogeneus stuffs And textures. So thanks to prove It in this video. Best regards.

Martin I am a fan who has followed you for a while a now and 2 things come to mind. One, your friendly manner, and 2 your demonstration of your modeling talents is great. This particular video I have been holding on to for now. I will incorporate your system as I proceed. The one tip I don't see done is the grounding of the applicator. Seems simple but for a newbie it is worth mentioning in my opinion. Question - I clip my alligator clip to an metal awe then I stick that into the base material. Is that okay, or If you have a better idea please lay it on us. Al

Honestly i just plan to hawe a corner of my setup fully modeled, the rest will be more or less modular, but i guess that apends on what one personaly like most to do with the setup, my setup is mainly vintage and i am a tecnology person so i want to put the main focus on the parts them self and also want the parts to be easily movalbe and easy to change, but with a modern setup the surounding diorama may be the center of attraction if that's what the owner mainly like to do so one realy got embrased by that wonderful feeling of traveling in a miniature world, there are no rights or wrong in this hobby, and that's a big part of why i love it! ha ha

Great tutorial thanks I must be doing something wrong. I'm using the Woodland scenics static king which I just bought but it's useless on grass more then 2mm especially 12mm grass. I have followed the instructions and I'm using Woodland scenics tac and grass and using the wire next to where I'm applying grass but no joy. 70% of the grass is flat any advice to what I'm doing wrong?? Your help would be much appreciated 🙏
@marklinofsweden
@marklinofsweden Жыл бұрын
12mm is tricky. I typically first apply a thin layer of 6mm, so there’s some standing grass on the surface. Then I replace the grass in the applicator to 12mm. This will help the 12mm to stand up better. It cannot really stand on its own. It’s too tall. I finish up by vaccuuming before glue is dry. This also helps the grass to stand in a vertical position. Good luck

What a brilliant tutorial! One query, when you apply grass to an isolated patch of glue do you have to hold the electrical supply probe in that same patch? It wasn't clear from what I could see. And when I try it the grass just lays flat.
@honestgbfan5324
@honestgbfan5324 4 жыл бұрын
your answer is YES if I am reading the question correctly. the conductivity of the electricity through the wet glue is what attracts the static grass to point up. like a magnet would with positive and negative ends. When I make grass tufts, I use a metal pan and only need to attach the alligator clip to the pan. But on my layout, with the wood or foam surface underneath the scenery, there is nothing to conduct the electricity except through the water within the glue. Sorry the answer is so late :( But then I am way late on my own layout progress as well :( sadness But I think I figured it out the issue and can move forward now :) I believe I have commented on this video in the past as I have watched it several times but again... AWESOME!

@marklinofsweden thank you for this informative and fun video. I think the results are looking really good. I have a question - around 10:39 you are suggesting to put the gold coloured base layer by stiffling in the depressed areas and the greener grass on the elevated ones. Are not the elevated parts drier than the depressed ones? I had in mind to do it the other way round, on what observations are your colour choices based? I have experimented with your techniques and others mentioned in the Noch videos and got really thrilling results. Looking forward to try larger areas soon! Love your cheerful videos, all the best!
