This is by far the best tutorial on the subject of Helitacks and very close to perfection. The tiny little piece that some might be interested in to see is "what not to do" / failure analysis. If you drop the sail into the water or yourself, there are probably just a few common mistakes to better avoid or learn from them. Cheers from Munich

Been watching your tutorials for years now they are very helpful and helped me further in my windsurfing. Been teaching myself for 13 years now. I am now 27 The last 7 years I got more freedom and have been steadily improving my sailing. The helitack has always been the godmove to me and my friends. Which is silly considering how simple it actually is to learn. But when you don't know how to do it and nobody around you can pull it off it looks impressive. I finally figured out how to really feel and use mast pressure for the helitack on both tacks. I could do them but relied too much on the sail to do the work without using mast pressure. And boy did that o make my rotations easier. Instantly improved my helitacks and upwind 360's got even more snappier. Your tutorial came just a day later 😂. Still great to watch and freshen up the theory before putting it to practice.

Great to hear Mike. Such a good move to learn and play with. Really sets lots of skills ready for other moves too. Keep up the good work 🤙

Great guide! The best I've seen on the helitack. It's clear and I like how you break it down to the basic required skills, take it slow, show a lot of variations and repetitions... Your coaching experience clearly shines here! I'm imagining a few additional exercises, like practicing clue first water-start (for the exit) and back-wind sailing (to get used to steer the board while back-winded)... Also, showing some failures might be a nice addition, it highlights the possible mistakes (like at the very end, it shows how putting the weight back seems very important not to get catapulted while catching wind clue first). Can't wait to be back on the water and practice this, thank you so much for this video. 🤙

Love this video. I've been working on it for a few years and can occasionally pull it off but rarely on my small boards. This has shown me a few new things that I haven't thought about, like just letting go with the back hand whilst :) backwinding the sail.

jesus..he's explaining the movement in a super good way. Stop complaining about the board and the wind.. You usually do your driver's license in a "normal" car and don't jump into an AMG Benz with 600 HP. Of course it's harder in 20-30 knots.. Always those kind of ppl on the internet.. great tutorial man.. Been working on it for the past couple of days

I was having a really hard time with this move and the thing I was missing was stepping that back foot forward of the front footstraps just as you’re getting backwinded as you explain ~3:50. Little things can make a huge difference.

Doing the helitack on a massive board like this is one thing. Doing it in 20+knots on an 80l board is another.
@GetWindsurfing2 жыл бұрын
Big board to learn the technique then you can move down to a small board in higher winds

Anyone: I am having difficulty turning into the wind. If we use the clock for direction the wind is coming from 12 o`clock and the board is initially going back and forth between 3 o`clock & 9 o`clock. I go upwind as much as possible but the board seems to stall between the no go zone (11&1). And at some point, the board turns in the opposite direction away from the wind going downwind which was not my intension. So in short, stalling and getting backwinded is not happening. I do stay dry. I also know that timing is the issue. Can you make some suggestion using the clock to explain the timing as to when to start backwinding. I am practicing on 119 liters and weigh 50 kilos. Thx for the awesome video.

Using big gear makes it far too easy. Please do the same with a +/- 5L board in 20-30 knots, that´s when it gets difficult, where advice is needed.

I hear you. This makes it better for learning when using a big board. Notice the technique is very similar when I use the smaller board. Stick to the technique and let it develop. Eventually you will do it in higher winds. Good luck 🤞 P.s. it was way winder then it looks. I was planing on the 4.4.
