RECIPE: I looove cabbage and heres my favorite keto way. Use bacon fat or cook bacon to add later to cabbage. Rough chop cabbage in 1 inch pieces. Add to hot fat and saute on medium-med hi heat. Add seasonings like dry herbs, parsley or lemon seasoning. once the water is all cooked out this is where the magic happens. Go full blast High temp and try to caramalize some bits and edges of the diced cabbage(no burning). Minimal stiring for extra toastiness. & when its nice and golden brown... drop in some heavy cream to make a little saucy. 😋 U could even put it in a oven safe dish, top with some cheese for a fatty nutritious casserole. Its addicting. You wont want to stop eating it. Pro tip: if you have nutritional yeast you can add it after the heavy cream and it will thicken up nicely.

This is how I live: Chicken, ground beef, eggs, butter, olive oil, and cheese form the bulk of my meals. There are two essential tricks. One is acquire a chest freezer so you can stock up on specials. The other trick is to watch the fliers issued by your local supermarket chains. You are looking for anything you consume regularly. When you see a great special on something you normally use, you buy as much of it as you will possibly use between now and the next time it comes out at that level of special. Ultimately 'everything' you buy will be bought at a great special price, bought in bulk. I live on a food budget of $5.00 a day. Shopping this way I save enough money that I can even sometimes afford to splurge on things like a big bag of coconut flour so I can do the microwave bread thing. Note that you can freeze eggs too.

You can freeze eggs 👀👀👀👀 does it mess with the integrity?
@panpiper6 жыл бұрын
@@RobynnNinjah Yes, you have to break the eggs first, then store the results in some sort of container. I crack the eggs in meal sized quantities, in my case six/eight eggs per freezer bag. I also beat them for use as an omlette prior to storing them. You will not get sunny side up fried eggs out of frozen egg, but for most cooking purposes, freezing them does no harm. It takes very little to thaw them out too. Fill a pot with hot water from a tap and drop the bag of frozen eggs into the water. A half hour later, you have thawed egg. You won't even have to wash the pot.

Thanks so much! I’m going back on keto and another goal for my year is to save as much money as possible this year. I like to go to Walmart because I use their order online app. I’ll swing by after work on Friday and within 15 minutes I have my groceries and heading home. I purchase them in advance on the app, which by the way does tell you specials and markdowns, and that way I can control what I actually spend and really think about what it is I do want to purchase the most. It saves me time and money. You guys have motivated me to strip my keto food budget down, which works with my spending goals for the year! Have a happy new year!

It's an overstatement to say that vegetables are out of the question. Canned greens are very cheap, about 50 cents a can (~3 servings) at Walmart. Fresh might taste better, but this video is all about compromise.
@loganjones57666 жыл бұрын
Their point was the cost per calorie not that people can't afford vegetables. A can of green beans for example might only cost $0.50 but it probably only has like 25 calories in the whole can. On the other hand a $2.50 pack of butter has probably a couple thousand calories. It's a way better calorie to dollar ratio.
@MrDavidknigge6 жыл бұрын
All the micro-nutrients in vegetables are also in meat plus they are more bio-available. But having said that, canned veggies are fine nutrient wise.
@loganjones57666 жыл бұрын
@@MrDavidknigge You are correct but the main thing that most keto friendly vegetables just don't really provide is many calories. Trying to get 2000 calories from green vegetables is almost impossible and would be a very expensive diet as well. Better to look at them as just a way to add variety to your meals.

@@loganjones5766 But you also need micronutrients not just calories. They needed to clarify one comparison. Kerry Gold butter (and pretty much all of the imported butters I've seen) comes in HALF-pound packs (either stick or solid, depending what your store stocks). Standard butter comes in FULL-pound packs. So the price numbers aren't a direct comparison. However, if you're familiar with the standard price of Kerry Gold (or there's another import butter around I think is called Finlandia, or something like), then you'll recognize when a store has it at a better price and buy some of it then. Butter freezes wonderfully--I've been doing it for years.

I couldn't read all of the comments. If I am repeating someone else, sorry. My husband and I are truckers. We tried keto last year. Several times, in fact. We start off great, but always get caught without. We pack lots of keto food into our truck. I try to prepare as much ahead as I can. But our tiny fridge/freezer won't hold much. We do have a micro, too. But, there have been several times when we have been running hard and didn't have time to restock. Or, we call ahead to a Walmart to make sure we can pull into their parking lot to shop without our truck getting booted or towed. Believe it or not, but we have been told no (rudely) many times. We do our best at the truck stops, eating bacon cheeseburgers w/o bun, or a grilled chicken salad, etc. But we get sick of eating the same thing every day. Then we wind up in the middle of nowhere, where you either eat what's there or you go hungry. I tried a keto trucker fb page last year. I left because they don't monitor what people post. They post stuff that contains corn or carrots, etc. The only fb page I use is Keto-Adaptation. I also like the recipes on ruledme.com. Then, I found you guys. So far, I really like the foods you present, especially the budget friendly stuff. Is there any way you could come up with something for us weary truckers?
