I'm loom knitting a beanie in rib stitch all the way and I was wondering if this decrease technique could be used in the k1, p1 pattern or should I swop to knit stitches only to complete the crown? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you for a great video!

I love this look! I had a hat nearly finished on the orange 80-peg KB fixed round. Not your fault, but I just couldn't figure out how to stretch the stitches to do the decrease. I'm working with what I think is Homespun yarn that easily tears apart, though is SOOO soft. I'm making them for cancer patients or other charities that need soft hats. Anyway, I tried to take the stitches off the loom using cable needles so that I might put the stitches on the smaller loom of the same gauge. BIG mistake. This yarn is so hard to find the little loops so I finally frogged the whole thing and started over. Maybe you could lead me to a tutorial on how to do this on a fixed loom? I have done that decrease on needle-knitting hats. I love that look. Maybe a different yarn would work out easier? I know I can't crochet with this yarn. Nor could I figure out how to transfer all the stitches to the needles without the yarn ripping apart. Sorry this is so long. Thank you for all the wonderful tutes you do for all of us!

Darlene Milner you are right. That yarn is difficult to work with. Transferring it to others looms can work too but yes it is tedious. When you do it I recommend making the last round SUPER loose on each stitch. Use a smooth non gripping yarn to take it off and move. I found it best to go backward stitch by stitch and remove the previous row when transferring to get more consistent stitches too

@@GoodKnitKisses Oh, of course! As I hit the side of my head for not thinking of using the lifeline idea instead of needles! Thanks for these hints. If I get brave enough I will try this in a couple days. It takes me about 3 days to make a hat with the smaller gauges. It used to take a couple hours on the big ones! But I love the results so much more now. I did notice as you finished this tutorial above how you knitted each stitch loosely, individually. So on the no decrease fully knitted row, each would be done loosely (fixed loom) so that the next decreasing row the stitches can stretch farther--but will that look as nice as yours on the adjustable loom? I have the sock loom that one end adjusts. On yours, the adjustment seemed 4 on each end. With only one slider would you move the slider 4 on each side with each decrease row? Or do I have the math confused?

You could transfer to that loom but would need to walk the stitches around a bit more. To be clear you will not get to decrease as many stitches on the fixed loom unless you transfer the stitches to a smaller loom. My preferred method of course would be an adjustable loom though. And yes go very loose on those stitches before decreasing them but also if picking up to move over with a lifeline. If you are using a fixed loom you will need to evenly space out your stitches one empt pegs occur though or longer "ladder" yarn can occur. The best thing is adjustable looms though. @@DarleneMilner
