Hi Jeffrey, I'm Stefano from Italy! Just a little thank you for your work. You are one of the rare KZbinrs who rigorously get to the point on your videos, avoid too much useless information, or self-promoting continuously. Got 2 extra great tips... 1. In event view, to select the notes instead of using the 4 d knob ,you can use the left and right arrow (left of the screens,above the power knob.) 2 and this was huge for me in m+ you cant quantise the length. 1/16 note is 240. Sometimes whilst playing you have those super thin note, or you want it to end perfectly at the end of a 16th. The trick is where it says length,select a note and turn length to the LEFT fully,and you will see that the note will be perfectly 1/16 or 240 for length. Great when you use adsr, for easy visibility, or have the notes overlap 2 16th to have a perfect legato/glide every time one for the 808 bass fans. Try it,this helped me so much for different stuff. And 3 😁 great tutorial as always Jeff. Thumbs up 👍👍👍

Priceless! Thank you, Jef. I felt disabled by teaching myself with NI videos and the manual when I first had Maschine. It's such a complex tool box, I got overload very quickly trying to remember both hard and software techniques and then produced nothing because I was always stuck it hampered my progress and put me off using Maschine. I can keep coming back here to refresh or gather skills slowly and most importantly discover for myself, using what I learn.

It's actually so simple because it's limited and only thing is to remember what you learn through reading...and that's what is a problem a reading and that leads to another problem that is called Hypocracy because people they identify with the devices and become fans which is wrong for many reasons.

This video has been a gamechanger. I've been trying to create jungle style chopped breaks and have struggled. Up until now I've resorted to mouse clicking in the software which for me defeats the point of maschine. This video changed everything and I now feel so much more proficient editing/adding/removing hits in the hardware. I'm even at a point where I'm creating complex rhythms and rolls just by coping and pasting and editing things like velocity and pitch. Thanks a bunch Jef!

But as soon as I tried to load my breakbeat library to the SD card, the bloody thing either slowed to a painful crawl and / or froze. Fantastic! This exactly is the knowledge i was missing already in my first 15 minutes of using Maschine+. Wasted a lot of time instead of progressing through quick start guide on NI's web page and their short, very general, no-depth yt videos. Downloaded the new community drive yesterday and started a new track with one of the kits! Very nice donationware. Im a micro user and to be honest i hate the idea of working on a device any more. I started with Maschine 1 and rarely used any if the hardware features beyond the pads. Lol. I come from synth hardware and drum machines. I never liked having to learn all of the the quirks and bad nav decisions hardware designers made. When i moved to software I realized i preferred having my tools on screen. I like having a good midi interface to interact with my software which gives you the best of both worlds and with the limited features on the Micro make it actually pretty useful for me. Watching your tutorial and seeing all of the button push nav nonsense you have to know and remember to do some thing that i can do easily on my computer screen with a mouse and keyboard reinforces why i made the decision to work the way i do. All of what you’re doing eventually becomes second nature but getting there would slow me down for far too long. As always thanks for the content! Whens your next interview show happening? I really enjoyed the first one and am looking forward to whoever you interview next.

This fills so many blanks for me. Thank you, Jef. I recently bought a Maschine Plus, having got used to the software with my Mk 3 Maschine. It's a struggle. When you did " shift grid" , my screen had so many more options than yours and changing these made no difference to the rate at which the play head jumped. I did notice that in the event window, at the top, my screen shows 1 2 3 4 yours shows 1.1 1.2 1.3 1.4 . Watching again, you emphasise the "Arrange" setting in Grid mode and of course I had missed that.

@@jefgibbons yep I still don’t understand what went through their mind to take off any integration for S3 MK3!!! What about the base that use Maschine! I mean very stupid decisions from them! how do you want to improve Maschine and make it better if you don’t promote to use it! 🤦🏽‍♂️ I myself manager!, and promoting it’s a big part of make known your product and then improve it, by what the user notice!. I love Maschine2 i got 2 keyboard S2 mk249&88 maschine mk3 &JAM And same they decided to discontinue the JAM AND iMaschin2 for IOS!!! When iPhone and iPad are way more powerful and faster! I think 🤔 the new board don’t have the revolution idea of the fonder of Ni to creat NATIVE products, and change the MAO, the United ecosystems of Ni products! The new board seem to be more marketing money driven that created NATIVE instruments and softwares! So I know you “work”closely with them so let them know please..... Form iMaschine2 to Maschine2; to maschine Mk3 micro, Jam, studio, Mk3 M+(in my opinion wasn't ready, processor to weak… but great product) to A serie keyboard to S2 Series with all the United ecosystems this is what make the strength of Ni, and I think the key it’s to make amazing Daw sofwares for iMaschine3 for IOS to Maschine3 as DAW very strong and unique! they just need to improve it Maschine2 and promote it more and more in their own tutorial and not Ableton live 🤦‍♂

This workflow would be much faster and more useful for me if you could hear the notes sound as you edit them on the piano roll or with controller as with most DAWs. Can't understand why they've never implemented that.

Would you have any tips on looping sounds with a long tail or with heavy delay or reverb? I want to record an external synth with that in mind. Like a multi sectioned song (scenes). By the way, all of these videos are fantastic!

Thanks Rich! I’m not sure what you mean, do you mean a sample with a long tail? Or do you mean one with a bunch of Maschine effects?

@@jefgibbons I'd like to use the onboard effect of my external synth. :) and pedals if possible. For example, I have a Microcosm Hologram.

I know this sounds crazy but how do I adjust the individual volumes of notes in a pattern, using the M+ hardware?? Velocity isn't affecting the volume or moving the fader on the note up or down either. Seems so simple but I can't figure it out 😰 Edit: is it anything to do with the fact I'm APPLYING TO GROUP after I chop samples, rather than just applying?

Hey! Make sure “fixed velocity” button isn’t highlighted… that would fix it!

Jeff, as a Maschine, and Ableton user - is a used Push 2 worth the investment if I already have the MK3? I don't want to leave the NI ecosystem, but I think I prefer Ableton as my main DAW - and having a dedicated/integrated controller as hyper functional as the Push 2 seems suuuuuuuper fun.
@jefgibbons
@jefgibbons 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Rian! I have had the Push 2 for 6 months and haven't had time to really work with it. I'm planning a video soon comparing it to the MK3, but already I'd say if you can afford it it's a sweet piece of gear! Can't edit notes like you can on the MK3, but playing stuff in with all of those pads is awesome. My only concern is that it is so old, but I don't hear any rumours of a new one, and I'm not connected with Ableton so I have no idea!

@@jefgibbons Appreciate the reply, and the content as always sir. I feel the exact same way about it. I've got a little Launchpad X, I'll test out that combo for a while and keep watching the prices on the Push 2. They are getting really reasonable lately.

not sure you're still on this channel, but hitting shift and moving 4d encoder is not moving my cursor, rather it's illuminating buttons on the right screen, for example in event mode it highlights 'quantize' and in pattern mode it highlights or turns off double duplicate create delete bank....the one thing it's supposed to do it doesn't do. is there a setting that is askew on my system?

hey jef, i had hoped i could solve this, but i've been searching e'where, then came back to your presentation and i'm doing it right in that to move the playhead, or cursor, you have to hold shift down....every other element working in events n' patterns is good to go, but the moving of the cursor remains unsolved...dang!

@@jefgibbons I've been looking for an automatic way to set the notes in event view to end exactly when the next starts but couldn't figure out how. It seems to be possible to do it manually for each note like shown in this video but is there a shortcut for legato on the whole even like it is with quantizing? It would be very useful with bass lines or leads etc
