Bob P I’ve been married over 30 years with no children ever. Just purchased the Pacifica. It’s our 6th Chrysler Minivan. We can’t imagine our life without the comfort and extreme convenience a Chrysler Minivan provides. We looked at Honda, & Toyota but the fact of my body is not getting any younger, wrestling with the middle row seats in & out is no longer appreciated. We just sold our 12 Town & Country with the Stow & Go feature. This definitely is a feature we are not willing to live without. It sealed the deal. We own a 1997 AWD Town & Country with 250,000 miles on it. And we use it as a pickup truck. It’s one tough vehicle. It takes a licking and is extremely dependable. We have never had major problems with our prior Chrysler Minivans. All vehicles need maintenance and Chrysler’s are affordable to repair when needed.

Driving a 2010 Grand Caravan SXT with power slide doors is a great novelty to my passenger. Even have a Play Octopus trivia tablet to keep groups entertained during those long traffic times. The 2nd row Captain chairs are so comfortable for the passengers, that staying awake cannot repel with the comfort of that magnitude! Driving then Pacifica will be an experience of a lifetime....both me and the future passengers!

Anyone planning to keep their vehicle over 100k will likely have better luck with the Kia. We’ve had 4 Chrysler’s between 130k&150k come down with mortal sicknesses. 98 Durango with blown engine at 130k ,transmission was acting up at 90k. 08 Pacifica head gasket leak @70k transmission clunks hard into third @120k. Both air cons stopped working. Both lost heat eventually. Now our Sedona has 150k and is still like it has only 50k.no problems at all. I’m done with Chrysler! We had a few Chrysler in the nineties last 200k with little issues is why I trusted them.not anymore!

Well, I must be luckier than you. I’ve owned 2 Grand Caravans, 1 Grand Voyager, 2 Town & Country’s. In fact I still Own a 1997 AWD Town & Country with 250,000 miles. Yes, it needs a new A/C Compressor that it’s not going to get. This vehicle is the only Chrysler Minivan I have replaced anything under the hood. At 239,000 miles I Needed a new alternator. My 97 still has the original exhaust system including the muffler. This thing is a tank -40 degrees Fahrenheit and sits outside and starts every morning. Just bought a 2018 used Pacifica and purchased without any fear. I’ve spent less on keeping my Chrysler Minivans on the road that any GM or Ford vehicle’s I have ever owned. I also just sold a 03 Buick Regal with 355,000 miles on it. But it didn’t get there without a lot of help. Yes my 97 only had 250,000 but Ive hardly spent any money on it to keep it going. I imported in 2019 Kia Sedona 2016 EX from USA to Europe (Poland) No problems with driving, no problem with parts - many parts fit other KIA or HYUNDAI cars. If I can't get parts locally, I order from the USA on ebay. There are maybe about 30 of these cars in Poland. Whenever I stand at traffic lights or drive around the city, someone will look at my car, it's very nice. The turn signals in Europe are yellow and with the help of a strong yellow LED bulb I was able to meet this requirement. I bought the speedometer in Canada so as not to convert MPG to L / 100km. Fuel consumption in my car in the city is 11.2L / 100km. My previous Opel Omega 2.5V6 car fuel comsumption was 14-15L / 100km. After 2 years of use, I am in love with this car.

I own a 2010 Sienna LE AWD, Best Car i have ever owned i barely put any money into repairs, The latest issues i had with my sienna required dropping the sub frame to fix a transfer case leak and decided to replace all bushings that totaled to about $1k. about $4k Into oil changes. The minivan has 235k miles and still rolling. the only things i have replaced prior to me removing the engine / trans for the Transfer case was an alternator and starter. though starter was a 2nd time replacement due to me buying a remain one and alternator went out at about 225k miles. My recent recent replacement was a throttle body due to the sensor going out. I buy parts from Junk Yards for my sienna making it not expensive at all to do repairs bushings etc i went brand new. The Junk yard parts last me as long as the old ones do and not even that expensive. It depends if you want luxury or reliability. The new 2021 Toyota sienna is a Hybrid 4 Cy, I wish Toyota still offered the trusty V6 in the sienna for 2021, though like many people said Maintenance is key to having a car that lasts long but at the same time Chrysler isn't known to be very reliable. Now if i had to pick between the sedona and Pacifica i would go with the sedona, Kia reliability has been getting pretty good in the past few months. My hopes for the future is to get a low mileage 2nd gen sienna again and restore it back to pristine condition as my sienna is dirty inside etc due to kids and plastics etc fading out due to age.

I test drove all these cars and ended up buying the 2020 Kia Sedona. Kia wins hands down. Both these vehicles are "luxurious" in their own way and I like them both very much. The buttons on the Sedona feel exactly like an Audi and it has that "european" feel to it and I don't see anything cheap or "pasticky" whatsoever in mine. Personally I don't like all that shininess on the plastic on the Pacifica so I guess everyone has different taste. The Kia did have that "WOW" factor for me because the vehicle cost me THOUSANDS less than the competition. If no one pays attention to that there is something wrong with them. The gear shifter knob in the Pacifica was a big no no and a turn off for me. I'm just not the type of person that likes a know to change gear and I would never buy a car with it. I also don't trust American engines and transmissions and from the very little research I did Chrysler does not have a great reputation of making transmissions that last a long time. I rather go with a Korean car such as Kia or Hyundai before buying American. Sorry :-) The Kia Sedona was actually the very last vehicle I test drove after going to dealer after dealer test driving most SUVs out there and Kia wasn't even in my mind at first and I was leaning more on a Highlander or a Pilot or Subaru Ascent. After just a few moments while test driving the Kia Sedona I knew that wat the vehicle I was looking for and I LOVE the gear shifter design and I was extremely impressed and I got a fantastic deal over anything else I tried getting at other dealers. This is indeed the nicest car I have purchased till this day.

I totally go to car meet ups with my Pacifica!!...but mine's the hybrid version and most people don't seem to know it exists so it's a bit of a curiosity. Most common comment is "wow! I didn't know electric cars could be that big!" If you think the gas Pacifica is good, they Hybrid is better! It handles better and rides better, it's more quiet and you hardly every have to buy gas for it!

That’s what we like to hear! The Pacifica PHEV really is the one to get, we wish we had the chance to feature it, but hopefully we’ll get our hands on it to see what kind of fuel economy we can get with it.
@mikeybthepilot6 жыл бұрын
We've had our 2017 for over a year now, our lifetime fuel economy is 4.5L/100km with just over 11,000km driven up to now (about 8,000 km of those in all-electric mode). Our best economy was 1.5L/100km where we went from 4 April 2018 to 7 July 2018 (four months!) without buying gas and did 3375 km's on that one tank of fuel - about 2/3 of which were electric only of course.
@PRNTestDrive6 жыл бұрын
That's outstanding! I really think the Pacifica deserves more attention, I still stand by it as a fantastic crossover alternative. You really can't beat that fuel economy though, even 4.5L/100km lifetime is really impressive for a vehicle of that size.

Perpetual Radio Networks I shall look forward to seeing a review of the hybrid version at some point then!! If you’re near Ottawa there’s a Green Energy Doors Open event this Saturday (Sept 22) at Lansdowne Park. I’m brining my van to show but there will be a slew of other electric vehicles there as well. It’s public outreach for the electric vehicle club I’m with so it is kind of like an electric car meet-up and is open to the public. (There will be other cleantech there as well.)

Sorry to disappoint you but I'm single and I bought a 2017 Kia Sedona last fall - I plan to go camping in it. Lots of space except I hate the second row seats that flip up instead of stowing in the floor - they take up too much space and make it difficult to get in through the sliding doors. I'm a senior and have no problems maneuvering the 3rd row seats up or down. I absolutely hate the way it handles in the winter - despite being a heavy vehicle, it slides all over the place, the tires spin and the back end sways back and forth - long story short - it's scary to drive and I've never been a nervous driver no matter what the road conditions.

I did my homework for 6 months on several cars with a maximum budget of 35,000. I had considered the Hyundai Santa Fe, Seranto by KIA and the Pacifica based on JD power rating, warranty, expert reviews and price point/ value comparison. I decided on the 2017 Sedona LX, adding the essential package upgrade which included the leather seats, folding side mirrors, parking sensors, automatic sliding doors, premium instrumentation, powered front heated seat with lumbar support. All that with ten 5,000 mile oil change and a 60,000-mile service package for 32,000, out the door. I have put 50,000 miles on it, 60% is highway and 40% in-town driving. I took it to Las Vegas a couple of times and I got about 25.5 miles on a gallon on the highway. In-town....not so good, about 19. I personally have no faith with Chrysler products and I have a friend who had a Ram 1500 truck and a Town and Country minivan, He had both vehicles for less than a year and both had electrical problems intermittently which caused the vehicles to lose all power, stalling on the highway more than once. He took them back to the factory more than 3 times and the factory had changed out all the parts that they believed had caused the stalling, but failed to fix it. So my friend had to sue Chrysler under the lemon law. Besides, The Pacifica still has the square minivan look and feel, and about 10,000 more for the same appointments on the vehicle.

Poor engine quality in a Kia? We are on a third Sedona, we have had a 2008, 2014 and a 2018. Besides changing the oil and occasionally the air filter we have never spent a dime on the engine - not even an oxygen sensor - and that is with over 300K of driving. The Chrysler 3.6 is a decent engine, but the older 3.8 is well known for its ability to empty the oil pan and destroy the engine. And Chrysler still hasn't built a decent transmission since the 727 front or rear wheel drive.

Consumer Reports put out their most & least reliable list of vehicles this week. Kia sits in 5th place with the Sedona being their most reliable vehicle, whereas Chrysler is in 24th out of 29 brands tested, with the Pacifica being the most problematic vehicle. The problem with this type of survey is the source of the data. Personally, I feel people are more likely to complain about a product than they are to give it praise, so testing like this makes it hard for someone like me to fully believe the numbers, as complaints will outrank praise. However most people will look at CR as a trusted professional source of data.

Lulz. The Minivan is still the best family hauler in my opinion, we've been impressed with all of them that we've featured here on TestDrive, and I'm glad that auto makers like Chrysler and Kia are committed to making them. Both are getting updated for 2021, and Honda just announced a refresh to the Odyssey.

@@PRNTestDrive I'm not complaining, I love that I get a comparative discount on minivans because other people are worried about how cool they look while their kid is carsick and vomiting Cheerios in the back. As far as I'm concerned, one of the joys of parenthood is you're freed from worrying about meaningless things like looking cool. And with stow-n-go seating you can convert your minivan to a party wagon when the kids move out.

@@PRNTestDrive Don't get me wrong here. Chrysler is really onto something here by creating a minivan that crosses over into an SUV, rather than an SUV that crosses over into a miniman. However, they could completely corner the market by doing these couple things here: 1. Make the vehicle AWD 2. Improve dependability. There's little point in buying a vehicle that we can't be confident in driving 50k miles without having to repair something major. 3. The monitors on the back of the seat need to be able to detatch, or make them not be interactable. Why? Because any child under maybe 10 can't interact with them without being unsafely seated. 4. Get rid of that insanely ugly shifter knob. No one wants or likes that. Those things alone would give the entire market no reason to look elsewhere.
@SuzukiKid4005 жыл бұрын
De Bernard I disagree with most of your points as a minivan owner. 1. AWD is not necessary in most of North America...it’s just a modern day marketing ploy that has come along with the recent onslaught of SUVs. If you have snow tires, you don’t need AWD. 2. This is up for debate. Lots of people have had trouble free experiences with their Chrysler’s. 3. Just close the monitors so the kids don’t have to watch them. Why need to “detach them” as you say. 4. The shifter is genius! It makes the space so much more efficient in the Chrysler. For a woman, you need somewhere to put your purse. The Chrysler has an awesome little floor cubby under the radio area where you could put a purse or even an entire backpack. A T-handle console shifter takes up a lot of space and offers no functionality benefit. This is largely why GM still uses a column shifter in their full size trucks! Column shifters are pointless. Thank goodness you were not consulted to during the design phase of this vehicle!

No, what you mean is I have a different OPINION than you do. It's your OPINION that Chrysler is a luxury brand, and I'd venture a guess and say you're from the UK based on the Cheeky comment. Perhaps in the UK where Chrysler is an import brand it might be considered more luxury oriented, and that's fine, just like we here in North America believe Mercedes-Benz is a seriously luxurious marque, while they sell stripped-down version in their own domestic market, and are used as taxis and police vehicles. I understand that Chrysler wanted to position themselves as a luxury brand, but with only two models on the market and the Pacifica being the only one with higher-end features they aren't really in a position to call themselves even a premium segment brand.

Why is owning a mini van considered some kind of stigma??? It makes much more sense than an SUV. It has more room even with the rear seats in place, it has more storage than an SUV. Plus it's not as likely to roll-over in an accident. It has just as many features as a much more expensive SUV. I've own one since 2003 and I love the Kia Sedona. It's the best vehicle I've ever owned, and I've owned just about every brand. Chryslers are known for their lousy transmissions, which I've experienced on a personal level. Kia's are reliable, great riding vehicles and I've never had anything major go wrong. I now have 199,000 miles on my 2008 and it runs like new.

Dodge offered the Caravan with AWD up until the most recent generation, apparently sales were very slow for it which is their reason for discontinuing it. Sedona hands down. Stow and go seats are not comfortable and have less leg room. Second row leg room is achieved by tilting the seat base back. Your knees are high and bent more than 90 degrees. Had to put my knees on either side of the seat in front of me. In the Sedona, there is a gap to the front seats and knees are less than 90 degrees. Sold our 2011 Caravan and kept the 2007 Sedona. Sedona more solid, doors do not rattle, zero rust, much better paint finish, better plastics, better suspension components, transmission smoother and it was 4 years older. I suspect the Pacifica would age like the Caravan.
@PRNTestDrive5 жыл бұрын
That's a good point about the Pacifica's second row. We recently took the Pacifica Hybrid on a road trip, the second row doesn't get the Stow 'N Go due to the battery packs, but the legroom was moderate. The Sedona's movable seats are a really good feature especially if you aren't using the third row all the time.
