I really dig this setup! I also really like the KB Voodoo setup that other Tacomas are using, but that one video of your rack snapping while on the trail always haunts me when I don't see beefy legs on a rack system. These legs really do look sturdy. Great job!
@LastLineOfDefense6 жыл бұрын
KB Voodoo looks kinda cool, and I think those bases are steel, so they should hold up better than the thin aluminum ones I had that broke. Some pros and cons to that setup vs one like this - but just never fell in love with those ones.

Sorry if this question has been answered before but I’m also getting the kB voodoo rack setup and they say it has 500lb dynamic load capacity. Is that enough for a 180lb tent during moderate off roading?

5:15 Mike are you saying that if you put a brace on the middle hinge section of the Diamondback, that you don’t need to put one on the front section to mount a rooftop tent? I really love everything about this setup except that it looks like you basically have to crawl up into the bed to get stuff out of the front when the tent is mounted.
@verynearlypure4 жыл бұрын
There is definitely room to innovate a tray system that rolls out but you lose storage with additional hardware in the bed. I suggest packing things in some action packers or equivalent ie pelican, apache, etc. lots of options out there the beautiful thing is that no one is right. Each rig setup has a unique purpose for vehicle and owner.

I have a DB HD cover on my '15 Tundra and would really like to build FR rack for similar purposes. How do you get FR to make 64" load bars? I emailed Alyssa at FR but they don't have anything longer than 58". That length is good for the narrow Tacoma, but as for the Tundra the bed is 67.5" wide. I really would like to use up the width of the DB HD cover, sorta like minded with Mike for making all space usable. Any help appreciated.

I’m wanting to add a bed rack and a hard tonneau cover and your setup looks great. Did you install a bed stiffer also or does the diamondback cover keep the bed sides from expanding?
@earlmonteclaro98335 жыл бұрын
You can double check w/ DiamondBack, or even Toyota, but I believe that the non-moving center panel of the HD or SE DiamondBack covers clamped on the bedsides kind of act as a brace or cross beam between the left & right sides of the bed. That should help prevent the bed from flexing/expanding to a certain degree. I do remember Mike saying in another video that he added Total Chaos' bed stiffeners to the truck, so it shouldn't hurt to add those, too. His setup has those bed stiffeners at the bed floor corners by the tailgate and the center panel of the DB cover at the top, near or at the center, of the bed that should help to stiffen the bed.

If I only posted gun reviews on this channel - I'd make a new video like 4 times a year. I'm more interested in training, and those get by far the least views, interaction, and interest of all. The most fun stuff to me is gear and gear related content - which is what I enjoy making most, and if I were to go by views, likes, comments, and general interaction is also what people like the most. Fortunately I don't clickbait like everyone else - so if it's a video that doesn't interest someone - it is very easy for them to not watch.

Mike and I e-mailed briefly back-and-forth on TacomaWorld to figure out a way to get better load bars on the LLOD overland SpitHTF mobile. I got the mid-height legs, too, but was thinking of switching to the tall legs. However, I've got this height limit issue with our apartment building's subterranean garage gate that I want to clear.
