Great info! I just got the new MkII and was using it for a critical shoot in a fixed location, experience significant overheating issues, where I didn't when using the original. Thanks to your video, I now know this was because I was shooting at 60fps. I was about to return this camera (this was the 2nd one I ordered from Amazon, first one had broken USB port which prevented battery charging).

The timing of this is beyond perfect. I've been testing out my ZV-E10 II over the last 24 hours trying to figure out what the best solution is as it's just overheating a lot. I did just order an Ulanzi Cooling Fan (the new model without suction cups), so I'm hoping that will change the potential outcomes.

@@ThinkMediaTV Purely for my use case scenario - doing 4k60 via HDMI to an Elgato 4K X, running on a dummy battery (battery door open), not doing any internal recording, screen flipped out, thermal limit set to high and being in an airconditioned room about 72f. The Ulanzi fan has 2 speed settings - low and high. In the low setting, I got about 1hr before the overheating symbol appeared. I chose not to push it to the point where it turns itself off. I have no interest in running a camera where I deem it ok to have a warning symbol there. In the high setting, I was able to go for 5 hours before I turned it off. The heat symbol did not appear at all. However, there's a few things to consider: - In high mode the fan is definitely audible and depending on what microphone you have and what position it's in - it may be picked up. - It does have a built in battery, but you'd probably want a USB C cable handy to keep it plugged in at all times. - This was done in a controlled environment. My guess would be that in a warm climate or direct sun it would still overheat in high mode - however this is an educated guess and would need testing. I hope this comment helps someone!

What about 4k 24FPS? I need to do 1-1.5 hr podcasts. Either this or FX30. Really want the zv to work out though!
@TravisVarga3 ай бұрын
@@mikeserman my suggestion, get the zve10 and get the Ulanzi fan. When your recording long sessions and just need it not to overheat, put the fan on it. Get the white one too. Did a 3 day event this week, with the ZVe1 (slightly diff but very similar in body style of cam) - hours and hours and hours at 4k 30. Just kept the fan on it, low setting, whole time for safety. Never even got the 'Overheating Warning.' Your only concern might be the noise of the fan (altho very minimal). But depending on how super quiet you want the room - Final Cut's Voice Isolation handles it with one click. I haven't tested the Zve-10 but I'd think it has a similar body to ZVe1 and prob similar overheating results as ZVe1 (but could be wrong...).

I was really excited about the ZV-E10 II and was planning to use it as a 4K webcam with a dummy battery and HDMI capture card. But after watching your test, it’s disappointing to see that it can’t go past 3 hours in 4K due to overheating. Do you have any recommendations for other cameras at a similar price point that can handle 4+ hours of 4K recording?

Have you tried low output power bank for type-c connection and how it relates to overheating? I suspect high capacity power output source (like 65W) could increase heat generating. But in most cases power bank is enough to keep camera running for long time. At least vz-e10 v.1 do not overheat with powerbank for hours

The ZV-E1 seems to do better, I tested 6+ hours of 4K30 with USB-C power, it slowly drained to 87% battery during this time but did not overheat. These days I use a small rig battery with USB-C, I can plug the USB-C cable direct to the battery and never had the camera overheat unless I am also streaming the live video over wifi while simultaneously recording.

I don't understand about the USB-C port. You say avoid it esspecially with PD on? But does that mean avoid it for USB Livestreaming as well?
@ThinkMediaTV4 ай бұрын
You can livestream with the camera with the USB-C port, but set the camera to USB power delivery:OFF. Which means it won’t charge the camera, but will use the USB port to send its video signal to your computer. This will give you better run time for overheating, but still not the best move. I’d use an HDMI capture card

Why didn't test XAVC HS instead of the useless XAVC S? also could have indicated the bitrates used. With that said, any external fan will fix the 24p overheating in up to 30 degrees rooms (no sunlight)
@ThinkMediaTV4 ай бұрын
XAVC H-S is an h.256 codec which is very compressed. Good for file management and quality, but not great for computers that struggle to uncompress footage when editing. A lot of our user base are editing on entry level editing machines, and the XAVC H-S codec would be the format that they wouldn't be able to use smoothly. XAVC S is much more reliable for most machines. We used the highest bit rate available during each test. External fans do help, but we wanted to see what this camera could do without a fan. Thanks for the comment!

Testing the camera in a 22 c indoor temperature is not a good information for a travel shooter. It must be tested at least in 30 degrees celcium
@AndreSjoberg5 ай бұрын
Testing indoors at 22c is perfectly fine as a baseline test for how most people will use the camera, and the target audience of the channel, there are probably more niche channels for travel shooters that will conduct warm/wet/cold climate tests of the camera.
@ThinkMediaTV5 ай бұрын
Yeah our goal was to provide a baseline that will help most of our audience who film long KZbin videos indoors
@thanasispitsavas28495 ай бұрын
@@ThinkMediaTV Anyway Thank you for your review. But if anyone watches all the reviews of Sony ZV E10 II will find that they all refer to the temperature of 22-25 degrees as a baseline. This may be realistic for indoor situations or northern climates but not for warm climates or Mediterranean areas. The conclusion that emerges from your presentations, and not only from yours, is that this camera is unsuitable for warmer areas.
