This is the video I've been looking for. After three trips to fix up our Florida vacation/retirement home just south of your area in a Tacoma, decided the FJ fit my needs better to avoid motels yet still be a daily driver to work in wintry Iowa and brave the weather in between and up here. All the others, other than platform build stuff are complete BS. Your window covering for that area is expert level. AC couldn't keep up with that sun on my non tinted windows, by the time I hit the Tallahassee rest area I was shirtless, stringing bath towels up to block the sun!!

Nice vehicle modifications. I've slept in my vehicles so many times over the years while traveling and camping. They can be made to be very comfortable. Good job.

Yes, I met a husband and wife that were in their late 60's who use their mini van as a camper van while they travel all over during the winter - she is the one who taught me to have a 'pee bucket' lol :-) something I have learned is a really handy feature!

Sweet setup on the FJ. Thanks for sharing.

Hey thanks! I have made adjustments over the years but this is my new favorite version of my camping FJ. I love my tent but getting to sleep in the warm safety of the FJ is also kinda nice. Car camping can only be done here during our winter months -m much after March and it's just too hot! I do need a little fan - I saw one at Walmart that sits in the cup holder - but I'd prefer one that ran from solar or usb changing not my battery. Thanks for watching!

That's an awesome system you have for your FJ! I can see why you call it stealth camping!

Awesome I have a 13 cement grey my wife and I camping in it also I made a set of drawers in the rear that are about 3 1/2 inches tall so it’s all one level and you can fill them with all kinds of accessories

Florida Girl Adventures OK Florida girl I’m not Yet made any videos I will work on it hopefully by the weekend I also remove the rear door panel and put it inside button for the door release I’ll include all that in my video I don’t live too far from Elkhart Indiana RV capital of the world I went to salvage there and bought some cushions from an old RV sure is comfortable
@FloridaGirlAdventures7 жыл бұрын
Vern Myers no kidding, you've really done some converting. I'm very flexible and and step into the front seat but would be convenient to open the back from within.

You could make it even more stealthy with simple camo netting. I'm buying one for camping on remote islands. Sometimes I leave camp to fish and it is vulnerable. P.s. Great channel.
@FloridaGirlAdventures7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the compliment and camo-netting is a bit much for me - maybe mosquito netting ;-)

I like your setup! It's not too crazy. I am getting an adventure vehicle very soon and thinking about a used FJ or a new Jeep. I will place my gear to once side and sleep on the other. I might build a platform inside in the future. Thanks!

Nice video. I also camp in my fj sometimes in warm climate. I put rain guards at the windows and crack it a bit for ventilation and with the fan it feels a lot cooler.

You are on flat ground, why not a GTT? Ground top tent? You'll have room to move around and breath.
@FloridaGirlAdventures6 жыл бұрын
I've thought about it but I am usually alone. As a woman, I don't really want anyone knowing I'm even there. But a top tent sure would be cool!

If you use denatured alcohol it won't cause the soot on the outside of the coking cup.
@FloridaGirlAdventures6 жыл бұрын
I did learn but can't say as I ever have: rubbing alcohol, in my opino has so many uses while Im out and about - rub it on bug bite to stop the itch, help clean wounds, ouch, clean hands and face, rub on an over heated person to cool, I can't do all that with a bottle of heat. BUT it sure does burn clean. I'll just use my fluid to clean my sutty hands with afterwards! :-) I really need to upgrade from my cira 2016 made at a campfire alcohol stove that Ive been using now for a couple years.

Florida Adventure Girl → Another question for you: What did you use to attach yhe velcro around your passenger side window? It *looks* like a type of 'metal clip' I have seen used on aircraft, but I cannot tell for sure watching this vid on my notsosmartphone.
@FloridaGirlAdventures8 жыл бұрын
I used these cork screw twist like thumb tacks located in the sewing section of the store. I thought they'd be a good idea but now I think either removing them and using the actually liner as a mate to the vecro which works nicely or replacing that 'sewable' strip with a self adhering strip and placing it there - the one on the glass is self adhering.

@FloridaGirlAdventures6 жыл бұрын
Ah, it's amazing what some six dollar stickers from Amazon will do to toughen up the exterior! And make a base model look like more! Yes, she's just a base model. No TRD except for me, totally radical driver! Lol! Thanks for watching!

Florida Girl Adventures → I just watched this videos and a couple of others. In one of the vids {or in the comments} - *and which it is I now CANNOT FIND...LOL* - you mention carrying a small battery-powered fan. FWIW, I have an "O2 COOL" battery-powered fan {I *cannot* remember the manufacturer}. It has 'High/Low' fan settings, and runs on 8 "D" batteries. It also runs on an AC adapter, although I do not have one. I purchased it for use at home in case of power outages. It DOES do a good job keeping me cool at night, even on the Low setting. If you could sleep in your FJ with *multiple windows open*, do you think having a fan like this would make it bearable?
@FloridaGirlAdventures8 жыл бұрын
I do not sleep with multiple windows open for two reasons 1 safety - I'm a woman sleeping in the woods all by my lonesome - so I try lock the doors as I get inside - even when in the middle of no-where. Also it's usually really buggy - the sound of just 1 tiny little mosquito buzzing in my head can drive me mad so - another reason all windows remain closed - the back hatch has screen and I have looked into devising a screen for the front- but again prefer them closed or maybe cracked an inch. I own the same O2 Cool GREAT product and a few years like at least 5+ old - it's those damn D batts - I want USB rechargeable at the same size as the 02 cool, about an 8" fan - most usb are little like 4 " too tiny. But yes that's a great fan option. I even have a clip on that goes into the cig lighter hole but again - USB would be the best as not to draw from the truck battery and possibly leave me with a dead one in no where = not good!
@Allan_aka_RocKITEman8 жыл бұрын
Florida Girl Adventures → Roger all that. I typed that at about "zero-dark-30" this morning, when my brain was *even less awake* than usual. What I *DIDN'T* mention was that I was thinking of adding temporary 'window screens' to the windows of your FJ, similar to the window covers you have now. That way you could open each window just a little bit to let in air, but still have them closed most of the way. And *Yes*, I have been in my tent with ONE of those *FREAKING MOSQUITOES*. If I'd had a *FLAME THROWER* with me, I think I would have USED IT...LOL

Florida Girl Adventures → I am 5' 5" tall. Would there be enough room in the back of that FJ for me to sleep 'stretched out'?
@Allan_aka_RocKITEman8 жыл бұрын
{Clarification: I should have said "in the back of *any* FJ", NOT yours specifically...LOL}
@FloridaGirlAdventures8 жыл бұрын
haha! EXCELLENT clarification! and thanks for that! I'm 5'6 and I can stretch out if I remove the back seats - I normally only do such when I know I am car camping: it's very simple in the vehicle- once removed that twin sized air mattress fits perfectly! Yes you're then laying straight end to end no problem: I will often lay sideways which gives me all the room I need. I have to make a video with the "bed & TV" set up - it's pretty cool.

LOL! G-friend you got a TRD, so what ya doin with "paper" in the windows! I know little things get expensive, but that paper nah gonna last with the windows rolled down or water....etc. I'm still lookin for a fix for the back cargo area.....so a person or two can SLEEP BACK THERE ! I have spent more uncomfortable nights trying to sleep back there...crazy- ass horrid !! I don't get Toyota and the "back breaking" cargo area. Why couldn't they have just made it easy to do.....Nah. But, I'm on my second FJ and wouldn't trade it for a $80,000 new truck. So, pissed I stay until I find that perfect, easy sleeping arrangement. I'm not too down for tents when alone...makes me a little "trigger happy"... (Okay, so I do bring my Dobi girl too. but still..)
@FloridaGirlAdventures6 жыл бұрын
J Ericson would you believe the paper in those windows is all of three plus years old! I'm getting ready to make velcro blackout curtains for across the back window as well as those two small windows. The black paper works really well because it's super cheap easy to replace and light proof. I don't want anyone to know I'm inside the automobile when I'm in it at night. I am getting ready to spend the better part of a month tent camping and staying in the FJ as well. It will be my daughter and I two people sleeping on a twin mattress in the back of the FJ. Plans are to put our stuff up top at night. Being female I love the suicide doors it offers a private place to pee!
@3lostblonds6 жыл бұрын
That's too funny. My daughter is 21 and she and I have been back country Nevada and FJ camping since "she could see over the top of the sagebrush"! But, ugh...those nights of being tired and trying to get comfortable with even an air bed....they always get holes in them on the first night. So that, in the morning I'm in a V shaped crevasse and she is able to look out the side window!! AND, the two dogs are in either front seat as I would never leave them out at night anyplace. There are large "things" even out in the wilds of northern Nevada to be wary of. So, be watchful at all times (of coarse) when your out there as well.

We did! check out both his videos on Potts Preserve as well as my own - now he was more true to the date so his vids would have been maybe early Jan. this year and my own maybe feb or so. He's really cool and we didn't get to spend nearly enough time hanging out and we'd promised to do another get together but Ive been swamped personally and missed the last opportunity in Feb or so. - the night we camped in our set up's was freezing, our coldest night of the year or of last year I think technically. Thanks for watching our stuff and please subscribe and tell a friend - it keeps me doing it!
