Love the video. I was there the year before in 2017 for Pesach. Unbelievable! The sights, the singing in the synagogues at night as we stood outside was transcendent. We stayed at King Solomons, which has a synagogue in the lower level. My two kids and I walked to the city center for the street food experience on Sunday and Monday before the start of Pesach on Tuesday. Tuesday, just before sundown, leavened bread was being burned on street corners in the Jewish neighborhoods all around the city. The hotel burned bread on a grill as a mix of char and bread wafted into the air like incense. Walking through the old city on Palm Sunday as Christian pilgrims from around the world descended and filled the streets elevated the experience as we touched the western wall and prayed. This eternal city is important to the entire world and people of all kinds of backgrounds. Peace one day! We can hope, we can pray that one day peace will come.

I went to Israel for the first time with Birthright in 2010. One of my all time favorite trips, and not just because it's the land of my ancestors. Highlights of my trip: *The Kotel *The Shuk (they have so much stuff and it's all locally made and fresh which is how food should be, in my opinion, because it tastes better.) *Safari Jeepim tour, if I remembering the name of the company right, which is an off road Jeep tour. * Mount Herzel where Israeli soldiers are buried. *Yad Vashem, the Israeli Holocaust Museum. *Golan Heights *Old Jerusalem *Caesarea (Ancient Roman ruins with an ampitheatre where they still hold events, like concerts, today.) *Picking clementines at a farm that was giving them to a place serving food to homeless people. *Independence Hall *Masada If you need any ideas of places to visit next time you go Israeli, here's a list. I also recommend the Dead Sea. I went there but did not swim because the part I went to had a lot of rocks and I didn't bring any water shoes. If you ever go to the Dead Sea, depending on which part you go to, I definitely recommend bringing water shoes (or Teva Sandals, which is what was what Birthright put on the packing list of my trip).

I was just in Israel in June! Tel Aviv Haifa and Jerusalem are all beautiful places. It was fun to be around Jews like me and also other religions. Israel has to have one of the best street food places in the world. I also got to touch the wall and put a note in it. I also went to the Dead Sea of course because that’s the #2 thing to do (the wall is #1). I can’t wait to go back again!

I have a question. You mentioned shepherd's pie - I have heard that true shepherd's pie is made from lamb and it is actually cottage pie (made with beef/hamburger) we get here in the USA (most often). Is this true? Or is it a regional/national thing?

You're right, 1. There was a large Iraqi/Kurdish Jewish community in Iraq that made great kosher food and also shemborak 2. The chickpeas originated in nature, the Egyptians made great food from it, and there was also a large Jewish community there that cooked local kosher food as well as hummus 3. Za'atar - is a spice Middle Eastern that grew in nature, don't forget that the Jews who lived in the diaspora in the area (Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and also the Land of Israel...) used it and prepared kosher Jewish food with this spice
