Hey Sean , İm a business student and i want to buy a surface. I think theres no need to state the reason for this since your ultimate school guide already did so :) But i was wondering , which version should i get ? the m3 or the i5 with 4gb ram ? Theres no way i can get the 8gb since its too expensive where i live. I will only use this for school work and class notes (paper replacement) so i need bettery life. And some say the i5 has better life than the m3 as much as 2-3 hours. But some people say no matter the model battery life is bad. non are very up to date so i cant decide on what to do ? i really need this but if battery is a problem then it wont do the job :D

There's a usb hub on Amazon that doubles as a external HD enclosure. It can run and charge off usb or an external power cable. And it's 3.0. There are several sold by different companies, but they are all identical in design and purpose, just a different brand.

and u can use the Bluetooth mouse on any phone or tablet without a usb otg cable which is great if u connect the phone/tabelet to a screen or if it's in some vr goggles

Could you do a video demonstrating the Netgear Miracast? Thinking of buying it because the Miracast/WiDi built into my LG tv lags a lot. It's impossible to play games or use the screen because there is a constant 1-3 sec delay and the bottom part of the screen flickers.

Hey Sean, awesome video as always! Regarding your bluetooth mouse, I'd highly recommend the Sculpt Comfort Mouse from Microsoft. I got mine for like 20 bugs and it has a touch button on the side (which you can also program). I use mine to swipe through my open tasks and by klicking on it, you can open the start menu. All these functions make it extremly handy for working, you should definatly check it out!

You forgot the USB C to Surface Charging convert cable, very useful to charge with any charger or power bank.

Hi Sean, seems you enjoy Surface devices very much. Do you use it with external monitor a lot? I just found a little trick that might benefit many ... wonder if you could make a youtube clip about it. The trick is that I can touch-control the external display with Surface screen. Surface screen is like a pen/touch tablet for the external monitor. This is how I do it: connect the Surface device to external monitor (non touch). Choose display only on second monitor. Which means Surface screen goes off, only external monitor will display contents. Now, for example, I'm browsing web content in Chrome on external monitor, if I swipe on Surface screen (currently off), pinch zoom, ... it will control external monitor. In OneNote, if I use surface pen to write on the Surface screen (still off now), the strokes will appear on external display and pressure sensitive as well. I also can PDF on 29" external monitor (non touch), to navigate up/down and zoom in/out the pages, just swipe or pinch on the surface pro screen. Devices I used are: Surface Pro 4, LG 29", and miniDP to HDMI cable.

Manny Dominguez I believe New Xbox games are pc compatible as well and the new Xbox one controller connect via Bluetooth meaning goodbye dongle although you will need the external DVD player I believe

Hi Sean, I bought many of your recommendations. One of them, the Sabrent docking station has a big drawback through; It disconnects the WIFI when I connect it to the docking station. Do I really HAVE TO use an ethernet cable with this? Or have I got a faulty product or a driver problem?

Update: ' Manny' at Sabrent says that there is a known problem with compatibility between USB 3.0 and the 2.4Ghz WIFI card in the Surface Pro 3. He says that there is a white paper about the subject. It doesn't work with surface pro on wifi basically. Did you try this before you recommended it?

Tryinitout Bummer to hear! I tested it with my SP4 with WiFi and Ethernet. and it worked great. Is it a problem exclusive to the SP3? I can't recall if I was connected to 2.4 or 5 ghz. I use the pluggable dock as my daily driver these days.

Sean Ong Good question. not sure but I will try it with my lap top next week and try it with different WiFi connection too. Manny at Sabrent said that it is a known issue and that there is a white paper on usb 3.0 interfering with WiFi 2.4Ghz. Seemed like he had heard the story many times before.

I tried that exact same mobile power bank (the Qi) and it bricked 2 different Surface Pro 4. I don't know if it was simply a bad unit or not, but I will never buy from them again.

That Sabrent "Dock" isn't really a dock. It does not charge the Surface. You need to plug it into the USB 3.0 port. It defeats the idea/purpose behind the Microsoft Dock which connects via the same connector as the charging connector. That way you just leave it at your desk and plug it in. It charges and reconnects to all your desktop peripherals. You also don't need any special dongle to sync up an Xbox One controller to the Surface. It natively supports Bluetooth without any extra plugins.

If you have an Xbox One S or an Elite Controller, they can be connected with Bluetooth, so you dont use the USB port for the wireless receiver

Yes, I've tried it. But it can only power one "big" thing at a time. So, for example, you can't power two external drives with the hub.

I connect my Bose QC35 to my SP4 via Bluetooth. But when I play something on SP4, the sound is coming out from SP4 instead of my Bluetooth device. Is there something within the setting I did wrong?

Try right clicking on the sound icon in the bottom right and going to playback devices. Then right click on the surface speakers and disable them, then right click on the bluetooth headphones and enable them.

Not really. It has integrated graphics. What's your budget for a gaming laptop. This can play light games on low settings.
