It was the last Sunday in January when we stopped and really enjoyed our stay. Nice food and the view we had from our bedroom was brilliant, so we will be back and for sure. I'll tell you what Alan, that was a cracking hotel review. Very informative. You couldn't ask for a better location. There's a myriad of different walks from there. Your room looked really nice and that view from your window looked amazing. I could sit there for a short while just gazing out that window. Loved the bar area and restaurant. Very atmospheric. The place just oozed history and character. Liked the decor very much with all the pictures of the lake district on the walls. Blimey that toffee apple crumble with the ginger caramel ice-cream looked packed with calories ha ha. A few of them and you'd never get in that shower! 😂🤣😂 Yes I really like the look of that place. Oh she sure would one of those hot springs lol. I run her a hot bubble bath every night about 20.00 and I get in after her about 20.30 and it is still too hot for me lol! One thing I can tell you I noticed throughout the hotel was it had really nice chairs everywhere! The decor was really nice also in general. Your meals looked great, and so did your desserts. We don't have sticky toffee in the United States. With that being said, I would love to try it, though! I'm glad to hear you 2 had a great experience!

It only reopened last year after a 18 month refurbishment and I think they have done a good job, especially as (imo) it has retained it's old fashioned charm and character. The light bites look spot on! Lovely view from the room, you cant beat Helm Crag in the distance. Very clean toilet. Rooms do seem a lot smaller post refurb but that makes economical sense during the energy crisis! Don’t think the rooms were double glazed when we stayed, they were the floor to ceiling types that you pull up and down. Can see why Wordsworth loved this jewel of the Lake District. It really is THE most perfect spot in the Lake District, very centrally located in a part that’s still not overly touristy. Lovely Christine ❤ the food looked decent. Great review!

This hotel looked lovely as you walked us around Alan and the light lunch seemed perfect. The views from where you ate looked beautiful and so did the view from your room. The view made up for everything, I could sit and look at it all day and due to the weather we did lol. A real nice setting as well, perfect for exploring the Lakes and with bus stops outside on both sides of the roads, you could leave the car there and explore or just chill out (on a sunny dry day). Hey Alan, love your hotel reviews and this did not disappoint. I would certainly stay in this hotel after your review. My wife and I have been in there for some lunch, I had the same steak sandwich with the gravy as you did, lovely. Downstairs is really nice, nice food, perfect location as you say and the bedrooms look nice and clean, what is not to like. Some people may say the bedroom wasn't huge but I am sure there will be bigger ones if you are willing to pay and for me, we only sleep in them and don't spend too long in them, your in the lakes after all. Nice to see Mrs Metalman and I hope she had a lovely time. Looking forwar d to the next one. Take care

I loved that beef baguette, so much meat inside and a nice touch with the gravy as well. I had been in last year for a quick drink just after the refurbishment and was impressed with the bar area, so said I would bring Mrs Metalman back for an overnight stay and real pleased I did, we both loved it there. Alan, what a wonderful review of the Swan Hotel...I could see for myself how pristine it was in your video, everything was shining brightly in that bathroom, and the lovely view, who could ask for more...except as you said, possibly a chair! The food looked delish, all the meals actually, even the little bit of fish n chips and the dip n chips...breakfast and dinner the night before looked quite plentiful too...Everyone always talks about the lack of portions and how large our portions are in the USA but they looked pretty large to me😁 and tasty too 😋 Nice to have the bus nearby too...being warm is key for me too...all in all, except for the shower I think you and the Mrs had a great time...thanks for a wonderful review!

Yes we did, really enjoyed it and Mrs Metalman is always cold but even she was warm as toast all the time we were in the Swan. A very interesting review Alan. Don't know how many times I've said "Oh that looks nice, must go there sometime" In fact I got as far as looking at the menu online a couple of weeks back & discovered it was the same as The Pheasant ... unfortunately the horrific storms meant I stayed at home that day !! It all looked very tasty The room looked lovely with a superb view. I agree a couple of chairs would have meant you could have spent much longer drinking it all in. Pity about no bath ... seems to be the way some hotels go these days. Also interesting that it has such large grounds .. I'd no idea... will be nice for summer !. Those chocs... Gosh I wonder who brought those in haha ... it's just a small gesture of appreciation and I just happened to be up on Silver How that day ... wasn't expecting to get a mention & you are very welcome. Have to agree with how cosy everywhere looked & felt, just perfect after some dreary weather we've been having lately. Yet another great video with so much useful information means I can look at this place with different eyes now & who knows actually get there one day for a meal at least 😊

I think they do the same menu in all the Inns they have and funny enough I was thinking about going to The Pheasant at some time in the future, as I have heard real good reports about it. The chocolates were an amazing surprise and what a brilliant way to start off the evening, that was so nice of you. The weather when we checked out was awful, just constant rain all the time, we tramped around Ambleside for about 90 minutes, went into the Apple Pie café for a cake and a coffee, then just drove home but we still enjoyed our time away. Another great unbiased hotel review. We are in there once and it was very good. It's got a lot of character, lots of nooks and crannies!! I agree totally about the location too, very central, and close to many great hikes. The breakfast looked very tasty too. We've stayed and eaten in a few Inn Collection Group hotels, and they are pretty good. I think they know also have the Ambleside Inn and another in the Ambleside area. The breakfast looked a bit basic, we found the same when we ate at the Amble Inn in Northumberland but as it is in with the price of the nights stay you can't complain. A good review, Alan, and I'd definitely give it consideration based on your review. Andy.

We have a Inn collection right next to my home, the food has gone further and further down hill these last few years. They have had more chefs than I've had Sunday dinners . It used to be a fab independent restaurant till the inn collection took it over 😢

That's a shame and I know what you mean, where we live we had a great pub that did amazing food at a very reasonable price but was taken over 3 years ago. They got rid of the existing chef, bought in their own and a brand new menu, with a big increase in the price of food as well. We tried it a couple of times but it is just not the same and the food (in comparison) was rubbish as well, so we (and a hell of a lot of other regulars) stopped going. Thought I’d seen a UFO at 2.47. until I realised it was only the reflection from your light and window. Looks can be deceiving Mike and for my high I should be 12 stone lol. We were both really pleased with the dog free areas and happy that dog and none dog people were both catered for, always good to keep everyone happy, especially in the hospitality trade.
