I think that Gonta's last interaction with Kokichi really says a lot about how Kokichi thinks of himself, and how he thinks of Gonta as well. He asked Gonta if he was a burden to him and told Gonta that he should be happy that they wouldn't see each other again. When Gonta said he would miss Kokichi, Kokichi told him he was lying.

As others have theorized already, Kokichi is probably a compulsive liar. Meaning sometimes he just lies out of habit, even if he doesn’t mean to. Obviously he means to lie a lot too, but he probably also knows he’s a compulsive liar. And so because of that, he’s aware lots of people hate him, and probably thinks everyone is better off without him. ☹️ Honestly Kokichi is probably one of the nicer characters to have as a friend. Unless you’re Miu, lmao.

I read somewhere that if you interact with certain characters enough,you get a good ending. And in Drv3 if you hanged out with Kokichi enough you got the good ending.
