I believe it's because he knows he won't be able to continue being the leader of the Crazy Diamonds. In Japan, the Bosozoku gangs were made of students from junior high school to high school. When graduating, the leader had to pass the baton to someone else. Hence I am positive Mondo feels empty living Hope's peak, because he developped a talent just to quit it at gratuation.
