I hope you find this video useful - I’ve really enjoyed building this van to my own design and specs and I look forward to using it for my photography trips.

That is a great and practical setup, Stuart. I am about to start converting my Peugeot partner van and like you will be using my power station rather than the leisure battery system. I need to design my van for everyday use and my little home when on kayaking and hiking trips. All the best, Dave.

Glad it was helpful! Have you got the K9 version like mine? The power station is a really easy and convenient way of powering the van!

@@sturousephoto I have a 2014 partner that I have owned since new. It used to be my work van but I am now looking at turning it into my little adventure home on wheels. I have used power stations for camping for several years now. My most recent one is a 518W Swarey, I also carry a 120W foldable solar panel which has been very useful over the years. Once I start the electrics, I will combine the Swarey with a 50ah LiFePO4 battery to give me an addtional 640wh to hopefully charge all my camera equitment, laptop, and run my Alpicool Y16 15L Fridge and lighting for several days.

That set up looks great....I have done the complete opposite 😁When I need a van the rear is empty, when I need two nights in the 'Loop' the fishing bed goes in with front passenger seat down all cooking gear & food goes in via an a/c catering trolly! tables and chairs are all fold up and along with camera & walking gear fit under the fold up bed.Roof box for bigger trips.Also the power bank is just a power bank, no wires going anywhere,light is a head torch and a magnetic lantern that fits anywhere as I didnt carpet the sides! Looks = 1/10 practicality I would say 9/10. See you down CAD 😉

You'll end up with a roof box if you do anything for a weekend. You have a really nice setup. I was wondering what fuel mileage you get. I have a Ford E350 van with a 6.0 diesel. I get 21mpg with the tune I had put on it at 65mph. I go to 75mph I get 19mpg. Has 37in tires and 4wd so it can get to the edge of the Grand Canyon in remote areas for sunrise/sunset pics. I do use it for other stuff, so most things, bed and cabinets go in and out depending on if I'm camping or not. I really want to set up a cabinet system I slide in and out. Plug into 2 100ah lithium batteries plus the 2 van batteries. I have an outside 270 awning I put on when I camp. If not camping the awning takes 2mpg off. On 3000-mile trips that adds up to a lot. I watch a lot of what I mount on the outside of the van and its value. I make around 6 round trips to St. Louis from Texas. That's about 2000 miles each time. Go out to MOAB and UTAH a couple times in a year and Florida also. A lot of miles on it. Only thing I really am searching for is a great A/C system that can be used while parked. That I haven't found. I did put a 32 gallon diesel tank under the back of the van. Gives me an extra 600 mile range on top of the 700 mile range with the regular tank. I usually fill it for long drives. There is room to fit another 32 gallon tank also. When I get someplace, I only use the main tank. Helps to reduce the weight while off road. But I have driven 1300 miles direct non stop before. Great stereo, a fridge/freezer in between the front seats with drinks and premade sandwiches cut into quarters. You can burn up a lot of miles at 85mph. 12hrs straight over 1000 miles. Keep oil changes up. Use good additives. Keep good coolant in it. Use additives in the fuel to keep injection system clean. Makes a lot of difference.

Nice. I’ll probably get a roof box for longer trips. I get about 34mpg on average. Love that you say you need an a/c system when parked…..I, on the other hand, are more likely to need a diesel heater! Thanks for your comment. 👍🏻

Need to get a curtain rail with proper swish curtains. You can also get a screen cover that blacks out your windscreen and side doors,all in one piece.

Tha van looks great. Could you use the narrower piece of foam that is on the storage box behind front seats, and put it on the bed to make up the width difference?
@sturousephoto6 ай бұрын
That piece of foam stays there in ‘bed mode’ and if I need it that’s when I bring along the third piece of foam to fill in the gap. For a day van I just use it as you see it but if I decide I’m going to sleep in it then I bring the third piece. Hope that makes sense!

How is the van on petrol, do you get decent mileage? The overall built looks quite good and simplistic which is less clutter. I live in the USA I wonder if Peugeot has them over here, and if this van was a hybrid that would definitely be fantastic? Thanks for the tour, cheers.

Availability, suitability, price, mileage etc and it’s my every day car. For my usage case I didn’t need the LWB version.

Great video and a new subscriber. Love the van. I would love to do the same. BUt if you remember Reg Prescott, the Kenny Everett diy master, then you'll understand my reluctance to do everything myself. I have a question though, if that's okay. I'm 5 feet 8. I've seen Henry Turner's Blue Jay van and think I'd fit easily as it's a longer wheel base. But I was thinking of a Ford or Vauxhall. Would I fit in this shorter wheelbase version? lol. With tripods, several cameras, drone etc, I would just worry about me fitting in with all my gear and dog.
@sturousephoto6 ай бұрын
Haha Reg Prescott I remember well!! It’s a good question, like I said for me, everything is a compromise. It’s not a roomy luxurious camper, it is a tight squeeze but good enough for what I want to use it for. I suppose it depends how much you will use yours. I’m 6ft and I can comfortably lay down if I slide the drivers seat forward. I recommend you go and have a look at some on the dealer forecourts with a tape measure and get planning! No doubt a LWB van would be better if you can find the right one at the right price! Good luck, hope it goes well. And thanks for your sub!
