I bought mine a couple years ago and I've ever fallen in love with it. The scales are more slippery than you'd expect. The back springs give you that nice snappy closing, but they often make opening some of the tools a real female dog. I now have 6 SAK's and this ranks dead last. I do really love the awl, though. It beats any awl you'll find on a celador knife.

That's a shame... but I do believe there is a Victorinox for everyone... So which is your favourite?

I am partial to the Victorinox pioneer since I was issued one on my first day of basic training ( Swiss Militia) in 86. The pioneer X, with the added scissors is an excellent improvement. But as Scott McIntosh says, the Farmer X with the wood saw, is arguably even better.

I love my Pioneer X. It has a real robust feel to it. I did buy a Huntsman knife (at the same time as the Walker) which I'll be reviewing in the next couple of weeks. It is a great knife and has a slightly larger saw and blade than the walker - and scissors too!

Technically the screwdriver on the can opener is actually a Philips no 2 but made in a single plane … it can SOMETIMES be used as a small flat head screwdriver though most flat head screws of this width would require a narrower head than what is provided on the victorinox The “tooliness” of the eyelet depends on the imagination of the user. It is an excellent tool for fashioning things with thin wire like a fishing hook for example. There are many ideas on KZbin showing you what you can use the eyelet and the key ring for

Thanks for your comment. That makes sense about the screwdriver on the can opener. Still not a fan of the eyelets. I just got the Army7 (Harvester) and was really pleased to see it had no eyelet!!!

I bought a Pioneer X several years ago because I wanted to tr;y out the alox scales. At first they felt slippery and remain so to this day, but to a lesser extent.. The Pioneer remains part of my EDC rotation, but I still prefer the scales on the celador models. That said, the Pioneer is a great tool A lot of SAK's have those wonderful scissors, but damn few have that marvelous awl.

The Pioneer X alox is my most favourite of the larger SAKs. You are right about the awl. It is so much better than the usual awl on the side of an SAK. The scissors are great too and the knife blade is thicker than a standard SAK. If they had one with an in-line Phillips screwdriver it would be perfect!

I like my Farmer X must have a Saw.

Scissors and a saw that's a great combination! I looked at the Farmer alox when I got my pioneer X - I didn't see the Farmer X. I don't have too much use for a saw most days - but for weekends and camping it would be great. I have a video coming soon featuring the Trailmaster. That has a fantastic saw.

@@MB_EDC I think the Farmer X only came out 3 years ago, whereas the Pioneer X has been around for longer (since 2016 according to SAKWiki). I bought a Farmer just before the Farmer X came out, and then got my Farmer X a year ago. All of the 93mm SAKs are built like tanks which kind of makes sense given that they are based upon the Soldier model issued to Swiss Army recruits for the best part of 50 years. If they released a model with the file added to the woodsaw and scissors - like an alox Ranger - that would be amazing and I'd probably buy one even though it wouldn't be cheap. Combine that with Knipex Cobra XS pliers and you pretty much have the same capability as a full sized multitool.

I am working on a leatherman replacement minitoolkit. KNipex and Huntsman are likely components

@@MB_EDC I'm looking forward to watching your vid about that already! Knipex Cobra XS have been a godsend for us in the UK since we can't carry most Leathermans or Gerber or SOG multitools for that matter. A shame Victorinox don't make a bladeless Swisstool or Spirit, or versions with non-locking knives.

@@simonh6371 there is a bladeless Rebar and there is the Gerber Dime but it’s very small. The Gerber Armbar would be perfect if they made the bit driver locking and the knife blade non-locking.
