Rabbit hole of YT workbench videos...ABSOLUTELY! I'm currently lost down that very same hole but your video is helping me (so far) crawl back out of that hole. I really appreciate the "list of must haves" and overall realistic approach to your design based on entirely on your honest assessment of what type of woodworking you actually do. Making forward progress out of that hole is much easier when you say to yourself, "Hey, this is what I do" and avoid getting caught up in, "Hey, someday I might want to do this thing."

You’ve done a great job on the bench. Like everyone else is saying, don’t care so much about other’s opinions when it comes to your work. This video showed up on my screen and I thought I’d watch as I looking for ideas for a table like this for my Metabo table saw. A couple points for you. 1. This is a great build, but don’t apologize or care if people come down on you for making your shop enjoyable and beautiful to be in. I do the same in my 12’x20’ shed shop. 2. Don’t beat yourself up by being hard on yourself for making mistakes as you would not be a woodworker if you didn’t make mistakes because you sat back, realize what you did wrong and fix it and this is what a good worker does. 3. You asked what I would like in a table like this, and I want to make a sliding extension for cross cuts. And 4. Myself being a 40 year experience cabinet and furniture maker, I honestly like your work and thought process that went into this. I would like to learn sketchup so I can create designs on my laptop, but I am intimidated by learning a design program. Would you sell the sketchup file, so I can look at it and kind of dissect it to learn process. And lastly, I am now a new subscriber to your channel. Can’t wait to see what’s next. Oh, sorry , I forgot to also mention, that I love the fact that you use affordable tools as, while I do have some expensive tools, like the very same Festool extractor and sander, I also have Rey reasonably inexpensive tools like 2 Wen sanders(ordering 12” Wen disc sander soon, and Wen track saw which I would put up against your Makita any day. Sorry for the long post, but I am excited for your continued growth and what’s next
@vanishingcabinets7 ай бұрын
Thank you Steve for the thoughtful comments here. I do feel that I will grow in confidence as I get more experience, but really validating to hear positive feedback from an experienced woodworker like yourself. Man I would love to have a sliding extension, seems like a tough component though to actually build. As far as sketchup, honestly, I have also found that quite intimidating and yes it has taken some time to put together some basic designs. I'm using the free version so unfortunately I can't export anything at the moment, but I plan on putting more time into this as well to keep me organized in my builds in the future, and also keep the plans in case anybody is interesting in seeing the specs. Exactly as you notice, as far as tools I have a pretty big range of low, mid, and high end as I really tried to research where to spend more and where to get something more reasonably priced based on the types of projects I plan on using them for. Thanks again!
@tomowens27207 ай бұрын
You’ve built a very nice functional low cost bench. How are you not getting snipe on drawer fronts? I’m diggin’ the removable wheels, dust collection and the huge outfeed/assembly area not to mention the art work. Keep coloring outside the lines, best ideas are out there. Well done IMO. Only thing I cringed at was the cheap blast gate. Consider replacing it with a high quality metal gate that seals better.
@vanishingcabinets7 ай бұрын
Wow thanks for commenting Tom! Really encouraging. Hilarious about the blast gate, you are right on. That thing was a cheap pos, already looking to replace it. I think I got lucky not getting any snipe honestly, the passes were shallow though, maybe 1/32 at most and those extending supports on the planer did a pretty good job supporting them all the way through.

Ive been watching so many table saw workbench videos and by far yours is the one I will absolutely watch over and over to see what you did and shamelessly try to replicate what you made moreso than others (without some of the heavy weight stuff cause mine needs to be a little more mobile in my workspace). Absolutely amazing build, instantly looked to see if you had your sketchup somewhere or plans available for me to purchase even. Love the idea of the flooring on top cause that stuff really is rock solid, cheaper than laminating with formica and easier too, though I am curious as to how wood glue and such cleans off it if spilled.
@DanShelton90Ай бұрын
Also I'm staring at the exact same displate of hollow knight in my office, as well as others. I think adding your favorite art pieces to something that you're going to see every day is a great idea and should be done more often imo. Stop hanging tool brand banners in your workshop people, put up some fun things.

Hey Shelton, thanks so much for the kind words! I’m flattered. Yea I really wish I was better at sketch up to put out some free plans, something I will get better at. Oh yea and the displates are still my favorite thing in the shop, totally makes the space more cozy and like my own refuge

Nice video and great build. I built a bench for a DeWalt table saw a couple of years ago and I think you're going to want to create some extensions for the mitre slots. I'm in the process of re-desiging a new workbench, based on what worked and didn't work with the first one, and already planning on a laminate top.. but just a sheet of laminate glued down to substrate, not flooring. Great that you had some left over for your bench. Did you consider putting the AC retractable hose reel inside the compressor cabinet and having it run out through a hole in the frame (with a stop to prevent fully retracting)?
@vanishingcabinetsАй бұрын
Thanks! Yes im already planning on routing out a couple extensions here soon. I would’ve liked to have spool hidden in the cabinet area, but it’s too big to fit in there how I built it. I did actually already move it from the back to the side because it was hard to pull the hose out without it getting snagged. Good luck in your workbench 2.0!

Hey so watching this video through i really like the design. I have been going through most of the workbench videos on youtube taking inspiration from each video i see while i plan out my workbench. I actually really like the metal graphics from displate and it gave me the idea to use them on the cabinet doors im planning out on the workbench. Im still a ways out from starting the workbench as im renovating my house and my garage is currently storing all of the reclaimed wood ill be using. So thank you for sharing your build process, i really like the design. P.S. if you like the black stain and white contrast you might want to look into Yakisugi (Japanese) wood burning. You can get some really nice blacks and browns while still getting beautiful wood grain to come through. Ill be using it in my workbench and maybe doing a video on the build.

I know you've got it separately, but a flip top miter and router would make this the best single workbench build on the internet

Also because you asked, you're a crazy handsome genius 😅

The flip top tools I have seen are super slick. Seems tough to execute but would be really useful, esp. in a smaller shop space. I was secretly hoping people would call me all three...
@KCGunner6 ай бұрын
@@vanishingcabinets I know you show your plans in the beginning, but have you thought about posting them for download/for sale? I can find a way to incorporate the flip top miter and the routing station as well, but the structure and layout of this bench ticks all the boxes for the space I've got to work with. No worries if not, I can probably build something off the techniques and explanations you give in this and your other videos if I had to. Thanks in advance, keep up the great work on your projects and videos!

Flattered James, but I don't really have any detailed plans, just a high level sketch I showed in the video. Think I will make plans in future projects though just in case anybody is interested.

Hi Aaron! Really like your video. Any chance you have plans available? I’d love to build my own.

Hey Scott, thanks for watching! So sorry, don’t have plans. Didn’t really take the time to flesh out the whole thing. Will do in future builds like this. Good luck in your build!

It’s beautiful. You just gain new subscriber. Can I ask what size is your workshop?. I mean what is length in meters and width in meters please. Thanks in advance and keep doing great job.
@vanishingcabinets6 ай бұрын
Thanks a lot Mike! Appreciate the kind words. It’s a three car garage, so I would estimate it is about 7x11 meters.

Is there enough room with the flex hose off the back of the saw for 45 bevel cuts?
@vanishingcabinets7 ай бұрын
Very astute! At first I couldn’t figure out what was hanging up the bevel. There is just barely enough room to swivel the blade to 45 though I just needed to add another couple inches of hose which compacts down when sitting at 0 degrees. Super tight though

Question on the table saw itself. How does your vacuum connection in the rear of the saw hold up if you rotate the blade to do miters? I have the 7485 and my dust port moves with the adjustment of the blade. Makes it pretty aggravating when I wanna keep the Shop Vac hooked up.
@vanishingcabinets4 ай бұрын
Good question. I ended up adding a few extra inches of hose to allow for the rotation. Admittedly it still isn’t as good when the blade beveled since the hose diameter gets compressed some, but better than nothing.
@RiddleTransportTV-rb6ng4 ай бұрын
@@vanishingcabinets I didn’t realize it when I built my table. I added pvc with a rubber adapter to hook mine up. Then the first time I moved the blade it fell out, lol. I’ve had my table for a couple years now and really wanna build a better cabinet for it. I like what you did here. Great video!

I absolutely would if I could. I made that in the free browser edition and no longer have the file. Will definitely be sure to keep it for all my furniture builds in the future
