Hey everyone! Thank you very much for all of the feedback and comments on this build! Since building it, I have put it through the paces in the shop and it is doing amazingly well! A lot of you have asked about my dust port on my cordless circular saw. It is a customized Ridgid Brushless circular saw that I cut the guard on and used epoxy to mount an old Shop Vac nozzle into. I am putting together content for a KZbin video explaining why and how I did it as well as how it is holding up. Thanks again and stay tuned for more! Casey

I bought this for my friend for his birthday as we just moved into a new house and he finally has room for a workshop. The bench was very easy to set up kzbin.infoUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh They center support is a little difficult to snap in and out of place at first but at least then we know the bench is secure. It was a pleasant surprise when we saw it came with clamps. I apparently missed that in the description. My friend loves the versatility of the bench. Great starter bench for his workshop and easily transportable all over our property. I wish the bench was a little taller but the other features of the bench more than make up for that.

Why thank you! I used what I had in my shop and you can really build this without fancy looks. Its all in what you have available and how you want the bench to look. Thanks again! 👍🏻

Honest question. If you think this was built with simple tools what videos have you seen, channel?, and what fancy tools are you talking about. Not everyone has a nice table saw or all the pocket hole products he uses or even a router. This table has got to be the best I've seen yet though.
@CReevesMakes6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. All of my tools are run of the mill big box store tools that are readily available and affordable. Technically, you could build this table with a drill/ impact, circ saw, and a jig saw. The sanders and routers are all for superficial reasons. I do this for a hobby that sometimes pays for itself. So when I get some funds, they go to buy new tools. Thats all. Thanks again and I appreciate the feedback and the compliment. The table has been awesome in my shop since it was built. Just used it tonight. 👍🏻👍🏻

Really confused on this build. You built the top with the space directly below it that typically exists for when you have bench dog holes in your work surface. The purpose of that space is so you can stick bench dogs or bench dog clamps into the top and they extend into the space below the top. But your work surface has no bench dog holes...
@CReevesMakes Жыл бұрын
My original plan was to add dog holes but then I hesitated because I didn’t want to completely go nuts on the top. I have added a couple here and there over the years but I am glad that I didn’t do a full grid layout.

Sorry, but what's up with all the pocket holes? There were places were simple on-end screws could have been placed, because they would have been covered up. In functional pieces, I hate pocket holes' ability to fill up with dust. I think this was done by a Kregg Employee.
@CReevesMakes4 жыл бұрын
Hey Rick, we actually did screw up and do way more pocketholes than we needed, especially under the top layers. My goal with the entire bench was to not have any visible holes or screws anywhere. I don’t mind pockethole when they are in the inside of a project and to me, they make the project move along. I do not like screwing into the edge of plywood as it splits the plus almost every time. First off, awesome job. I'm planning on building this same thing with a few minor adjustments. One question: I notice at the end of the video where you're showing off the finished project, it looks like there is a small gap between the top of the legs and the underside of the top (14:05). Was that intentional so that the top rests on the braces instead of the legs? Or like most of my builds, accidental because it's hard to get everything lined up perfectly? (I'm not nit picking your work - again, this thing is awesome).
@CReevesMakes5 жыл бұрын
Ahhh, good eye! At the last minute I had to fix the base of my table saw and re level the feet on it. Unfortunately I had already cut the legs to this bench and my saw was now about a half inch taller so I raised the torsion box up about a quarter inch. Good catch.

If you don't know what he used after "7 times" of it being said in this video. You won't get it sadly on the 8th time either. You may want to try a more easy project. Like gluing your hand to a peace of wood first.
@markk40153 жыл бұрын
I recently built this and am happy with the results. Casey did a great job and put a lot of thought into the design. I would recommend the project but there are a few things I would do differently. I paid a premium price for MDF with a laminate top and wish I had just bought the laminate myself and glued it to hardwood ply. The reason? You have to screw through the ply underneath the MDF to attach it and screws do not work well in MDF. In that regard, plywood isn't that great either, but it's much better that MDF! And I experimented with every method - different pilot holes, etc. Also, be careful where you put the third crosspiece on the torsion box. The metal track sits right above it and there is not a lot of wiggle room to get the screws in. And he doesn't mention it, but you can't put the last crosspiece in until the very end of the build because the screws from the rear metal track have to be in first. And you'll need to notch out the crosspiece to accommodate them. That's not an issue though. Unlike the video, I routed out for the vise before I attached it to the box. It was much easier, and I don't have the freehand skills Casey does. All in all, it's a project well worth the time and effort to complete it.

Thank you very much for the review Mark! I appreciate all of your information. In retrospect, I think I would have added threaded inserts and bolts to hold the top on. It’s a more secure way to align and lock everything down. When you change out the top, just remove the inserts and use them on the new piece. I also should have done the vice locations before finishing but it was a last minute idea. The track bolts and the torsion box was also a last minute “what do I do now” moment. Thanks for all the support and for building this plan!

Hello, Nice video, I learned allot and looks like a great bench! I noticed many of the pocket holes were screwed in on the inside going outward. Just for people who don't know, this makes for a weaker connection. For a stronger connection drill your screw towards the inside of the wood. There are plenty of videos out there that explain why this is, and how to plug the holes. Hope this tip is helpful. Liked and subscribed!

Marc Venne I was wondering the same thing. I was under the impression that you are NEVER supposed to use pocket holes in this way.

Great build. Do you find any sagging due to weight? I have a workbench similar without the torsion box top. The 4casters, but I find the middle has sagged and pulls the top down with it. Producing a dip. Guessing the torsion box stops this?
@CReevesMakes3 жыл бұрын
I have seen zero flatness issues with the torsion top. Still the same as the day that I built it. It’s definitely more beat up but it’s holding up amazingly well.

HI Creeves! first of all, awsome desing and awsomelly built. Only thing i dont get is how you attached the kreg clamp rail that goes where the vises are, only 1 line of bolts instead of 2? is it still strong with only 1 line? Can you enlighten me? BEst regards and like i said, awsome job!

I had to counterbore the plywood underneath and I didn’t hit record on my camera for that . 🤦🏻♂️ there are two rows of bolts in that end.

The bench looks great and I am working on expanding my workshop as well, but I always thought that you shouldn't use pocket holes across grain for wood expansion?
@CReevesMakes4 жыл бұрын
Hey John, thanks for watching! I thought the same thing and built a few small projects first using across grain pocket holes but I have not had any expansion issues. My bench is still rock solid and the joints are all still flush and square. 👍🏻

Does your outfeed table just sit next to the saw or is it attached? What about table saw miter slot extensions?
@CReevesMakes3 жыл бұрын
It just sits next to it and the bench is about 1/8” lower than the miter slots depth so that bars clear it.

You and I have the same table saw so how far did you extend the table to accommodate the saw motor?

The overhang is 12" to the torsion box and 14" to the legs.

Thank you TImothy. I plan to use a waterbased poly on it...when I get time. I should have done it right away, but I had projects in the wings and I wanted to get using it. I have finished other shop projects with waterbased poly with really good results.

Thanks for this video. I've been looking to make a bench to replace my wobbly sawhorses and plywood top for a while. This is pretty much perfect for me because I love Kreg tools as well. Also thanks for making the plans for free on your website with a step by step instruction guide. This will make it really easy for me to follow along on my shop computer. I'm going to start on this next weekend! :)

Thank you very much and good luck! Feel free to ask me questions if you hit any snags. Also, please rate and review the project on plans website! That means a lot to me and helps me to know that everything is relayed to everyone clearly. Thanks and take care. Have fun!

Great job. New subscriber here. I don't get how this could get 849 unlikes.... I recently bought a SS and an outfeed table is on the top of the to-do list. There's a lot of good information out there on KZbin regarding the subject, and yours seems to fit what I need the best. I realize that Kreg sponsors you, but do you think you're better off with those tracks than you would be with an MFT type setup? If you can't answer that honestly, I wont take it personally. Everyone's got to eat.... I'm guessing you have a pretty flat and level workshop floor because your design doesn't account for ones that aren't. Thanks for sharing.
@CReevesMakes4 жыл бұрын
Hey Mark! Thanks for tuning in and the kind words! I am hoping for a SS someday! This project was sponsored, yes, but the tracks were going to be there either way! I like the options but I also have the Kreg version of the MFT with dog holes and such. My assembly table is perfect for what I do though and it’s very stable. Also my shop is very flat so I chose not to add flip down levelers or any kind of pads but I could easily add theRockler ones or equivalent. Thanks again and let me know if you have any other questions
