Good pointers...before every pitch is thrown, we tell our kids to "know what your gonna do with the ball before it comes to you"...we typically will ask a few of them where the play is as well...you are right...you have to know or while you figure out where the play is the runner gets steps!

Thanks for the support Peter! That's an awesome way to encourage kids to always be thinking about where they are going with the ball. Thanks for watching!

Hi I’m 12 years old and I’m a second baseman. I have Tryouts next week for my middle school team and I have a compelling question. I’m not sure if this is a good idea or not but I tend to do it a lot. I flip the ball into my bare hand after I field it. Is this acceptable?

I have a question. Do you suggest anybody to get down on one knee to prevent errors? like for an example, Dustin Pedroia gets down on 1 knee so he can prevent errors when a ground ball is hit to him, should I do that too?
@UltimateBaseballTraining6 жыл бұрын
I think it's okay to do that on a screamin' ground ball or if you're a second baseman and have tons of time, but typically I don't recommend that. 2nd base is about the only position you can get away with it. Other positions like SS, you just don't have that kind of time. You need to get around the baseball and get your momentum going towards your target.

Might seem like a dumb question but I'm coaching a team of 9 to 11 year olds and they have a hard time catching and throwing consistently. You may have touched on this subject before but I've just recently found your channel. We've done things like 4 corners jus wondering if that's something that you jus have to get by continuously practicing or if there was any good drills you or anyone knows. Maybe a few fun ones would be awesome to to end practice with so it lightens the mood a little instead of always feeling like were being hard on them . Hope you or someone has a few good ideas

Great video, except one point at 5:28. "Don't field the ball in the middle of your stance"... Then fields the ball literally in the middle of his stance. I get the point, but the inertia toward first is generated by the approach step, or "circling the ball."

I have a ? Coach Justin ,so I've had a game yesterday and day before back to back both games I have missed all ground balls because went through my legs.
@UltimateBaseballTraining6 жыл бұрын
Did they sneak under your glove? Make sure you start with your glove on the ground, then work up. It's easier this way than it is to start at the top and jab your glove down at the last second.

When your fielding a hard ground ball should you squeeze the ball when your in the infield, or just keep your glove open with your hand over the glove
@SanctuaryGardenLiving2 жыл бұрын
For most infield balls you won't squeeze the glove. As soon as you field it your other hand is going in and getting it.

did you play college and/or pro baseball ?
@thefbi853 жыл бұрын
Good tips but there is one that I dinit agree with. When you said to field your glove on the side If you your glove on your side then if it takes a bad hop then it won’t bound of your body it will go past your body. When you said that if the ball comes and it is not in the middle then you would not be able to get it because it is off to your side and you would have a much lower chance of getting it. That is true but that’s why you shuffle your feet to the ball. In high school or college it would be hard to shuffle your feet because in the big leagues like that. They hit really powerful ground balls, that’s why if you can’t get to it or better yet if you can not shuffle your feet in time. Then just use your backhand or if it is hit to your other side then use your four hand. Nice tips tho
@soarinskies11053 жыл бұрын
As a former travel and high school ball player, one of the biggest sins an infielder can commit is play a ground ball off to their side that they could have easily gotten in front of. I see it happen in the majors all the time and I always get very concerned because occasionally it turns a routine play into a blatant error.
