I hate to see good people get take advantage of. The person who sold you that ski had to know that there was so much missing from it. I like your videos and look forward to seeing new ones when they come out. You produce great stuff and your determination to get things done is something that I applaud. What would be a waste is you doing what you have done and giving up. Keep at it, you will get it running soon.

Me, I would have paid the 250 bucks to take it too a shop and have it checked out before buying it. If they said, no, then you would have known right away that there was plenty wrong with it. I would rather walk away losing 250 bucks then 4 grand at least by the time you are done.

We are here with you for these watercraft builds! Easy way to check to see if the fuel pump is good is to send the fuel pump 12VDC and see if it pumps. Also follow the ground wire back from the fuel pump to make sure that you don’t have any corrosion. If it isn’t that then you might should start investigating the dash. Surely Yamaha Marine Tech Support has some answers as to if the dash has anything to do with the fuel sending unit. Call them after you test the pump so that they don’t try to sell you a dash you don’t need.

Did you check spark? That would at least say if the computer is trying to allow for it to start or that the coils are good (if not spark then the signal to the coils) and you can rule out if you need the Dash/instrument lights to be functioning to allow to start. Also, check power at the fuel pump. or send power (manually) to the fuel pump to see if the pump works. These are a few things that can help diagnose the issues faster. Another thing you can do is simply add fuel manually to see if it fires up (just disconnect the fuel tank and put fuel in the lines). Just a suggestion. Keep the videos coming.
@Wipsplash Жыл бұрын
Pull a spark plug and check for fire during cranking. Spray some flammable spray in the air box to see if it tries starting while cranking. I was pressed for time and skimmed the video. Not sure if you tried those things. Could straight wire the fuel pump to see if it works.

Hey Zach, I've been watching your channel for a long time now. I'll start off by saying that whoever sold you this thing should be in jail. It's like they took all the bad parts laying around, put them into this ski and then sold it saying it had a minor issue. $2500 for that? They knew damn well that it had a broken block and a corroded ecu. But anyway, I admire your determination to get it going. I've heard you say before that you don't like doing mechanical work very much. But speaking as a professional mechanic I can tell you that this experience is making you a better mechanic and a better builder. With this build you're getting into thread repair, wiring, some pretty advanced diagnostics, etc... You are doing things with this that the average person would throw the towel in after a couple hours. The financial aspect of this might be draining but the knowledge and skill you are acquiring is priceless. Keep up the good work. I look for forward to the next episode.

just a thought: short of the fuel sending not being an issue, I think maybe you need the dash to communicate to the ECU as sort of an immobilizer interlock. i don't know how sensitive these are with the key needing to be coded to the ECU.
@monkeysin4barrles Жыл бұрын
Also agree immobilizer , remember the older yamaha skis just had a 4 letter code 👍

For future stud extraction use a washer weld the washer to the piece left it’s alot easier to get penetration on the broken bolt and washer then it is to weld down inside the nut once the washer is welded on then weld the nut to the washer
@lucasalamo7888 Жыл бұрын
Before you start throwing more money in it, I suggest you bench test the fuel pump to make sure it's running. The ECU might require the gauge to be functional in order for fuel and ignition to work. Also, it looks to me as if the previous owner of that PWC swapped parts from that unit to another one. There is no reason for that thing to have the reverse flap when that model never came with it. Still, as someone who hates good things to go to waste, I think it's admirable that you are rescuing it.
@alexandreguillard8792 Жыл бұрын
I feel for you man, the dude that sold the jetski definitely scammed you; probably put all junk parts into that ski and sold it as not running/few electrical issues. Anyway, the upside is, it’s making good content 🙂
@Sniper269 Жыл бұрын
Can't say if the dash is an issue, but a super easy way to check the fuel pump is simply pull it from the tank and put 12 v on it briefly (don't want to burn it up, to see if it works and then back track from there if it does work.

You could have taken the head off the blown motor and inspect it thoroughly and install it on the replacement motor if it checked out and that would have fixed your exhaust bolt problems as well as having a much lower hour head on the engine. Really wondering if that jet ski had sunk with all that water intrusion and corrosion everywhere. Maybe they hydro locked the engine causing the damage after raising it if it did truly sink.
