Hornady's SUB-X bullets are optimized for expansion at subsonic velocities. How well will these bullets perform for 300 AAC Blackout? That's the question we'll answer in this video!

Yeah I've always heard not to use subsonic when hunting with .300, but what's the difference in between say this round/a soft point bullets flying at 1000 fps and say a .357 soft point flying at 1000 fps?? Not much really, and I've had zero issues taking hogs with a .357.

The load that works the best for me after weeks of testing using bolt action and several AR platforms in 300 blackout loaded with sub-x bullets is 7.8 gr of Lil Gun. I have harvested many wild hogs with that load with zero issues. Just bought a Iray Rico Bravo and that is a huge game changer for hog hunting when you own the night. My weapon of choice with this load and my new Thermal scope is my Rock River Arms in 300 BLK. I will be folding up wild hogs like cheap tents with this rig.

I did a side by side comparison using H-110 and CFE BLK. Shooting from a 10.5 " suppressed barrel, the difference in SD was very apparent. With comparable velocities, the CFE BLK had SD of 6 with the H-110 showing SD ranging from 40 to 21. I live in an area with extremes of temperatures +90 to -20 and an elevation of just less than 3000 MSL. Because of that, I wanted a FPS in the 1050-1070 range. CFE BLK 12.3 grains was the sweet spot for me.

Personally I load ACME 265gn bullets over 9.37gn of Shooters World SOCOM & CCI#41. Fun fact, at 1050fps that bullet has more energy than a 357 magnum. Interesting to note, The Hornady factory load for this bullet is the ONLY 300 Blackout factory load that has passed FBI certification. It has worked well for me as a "Duty" load. It also has taken Hogs and Deer out to 75yds with no issues.

Gavin, you have to try 300 blackout with a 1/5 twist barrel. All the tests and things I've read show you'll get the best results out of 300blk
@donrichter3523
@donrichter3523 3 ай бұрын
@MSSynsyterGates, and why is that?? I’ll tell you why, because heavy subsonics are iffy in a 5.5” barrel. That’s why the Rattler uses it. 1-5” twist is hardly necessary for 190gr bullets.

@@donrichter3523 1:5 will stabilize anything up to 250 grain subs in my experience. 1:7 is good up to 220. I think that is why "best" 1:8 is fine for 190. Happy?

I’m running a 1:5 twist barrel but what I would suggest is the 188 discrete ballistics Selous bullet. Your 190 load would be perfect for that too.

Cfeblk should probably only be used if you have a picky gun that won’t cycle subs with other powders. it only works well with compressed loads which is annoying for some projectiles. It has the highest charge weights for less rounds per lb, and it generates more gas in the face than anything else. My gun runs 242gr coated cast with 7.5gr lilgun or 8.5gr h110 at 2.05oal. 8 lilgun and 9 h110 with 208elds at 2.15oal is another favorite. Good accuracy and SDs too.

@spyderxtra777

@@donrichter3523 eh I don’t know if I would say it’s terrible, it just has a very limited application. Being: 300 blackout subsonic loads, ONLY for rifles that have trouble cycling subs, AND only if you are willing to screw around with overall length to insure compressed loads. Currently I use it for my bolt action 300blk, I make sure my loads are compressed and I get great accuracy with it. And gas in the face isn’t an issue with the bolt gun. But I probably won’t buy more when I use it up.

What’s your application? Hunting, plinking, run&gun/training? Are you wanting something lightweight? Do you want something that is maximum suppression or just reduces the sound? Do you have other rifle cartridge firearms you want to suppress like 556/223 or .308?
