I had no problem getting this bullet to stabilize at subsonic velocities out of a 16.25 in 1 out of a 7 twist Thompson Center barrel. Getting them to expand was a different story.

These videos are great and so informative. I learn a lot. Have you thought about testing a 1-in-5 twist barrel to test stability of heavier (220gr+) bullets? I’d love to see a comparison of twist rates with your methodical approach and reloading acumen.

You need to do like a "conclusions" or "lessons learned so far" every now and again for specific calibers, to review things you've done in the past, and where you plan on going next. I'm personally looking at going for a 300blk in an 8 or 9" barrel, but mainly want to go subsonic with very heavy 210/220/230gr bullets. Have you tried the Lee 230gr's cast, in a subsonic pistol yet? I'd be OK with 2-3 MOA, as I doubt i'd take it beyond 200 maybe 300 yards (and probably with supersonics at those ranges)

I was doing some research on these a couple of months ago. Some things that people that were having success did was use a 30 carbine seating die, 11.2gn max with blk, and 10.5gn max with H110. One person on Midway said their muzzle brake caused issues and had to use a flash hider.

That live round extraction was a "Nail Biter"! Large projectile instability may be caused by the round not being loaded concentric. The Ogive is long and round so however the bullet starts the lands, it finishes that way. The point only 1mm off will cause an imbalance that turn the bullet into a corkscrew. It may be better to order seating cones specifically for the Big Boys. At their per unit cost, it would be worth it.

Mr Johnny, Documented failure is still potential knowledge. Thank you for all the work you put into these videos. I appreciate it. I would like to propose an idea for a video. I'm not being smart or creative or trying to prove any point. I am honestly curious about the idea of a "brush gun" being more well suited to shoot through light brush cover with little effect on accuracy. I would love to see a test comparing a high velocity smaller diameter projectile verses a lower velocity larger diameter heavier projectile going through light woodland cover. 100 yards, baseline group, then light brush cover interference for each type at 20, 40, 60, 80 yards. I personally think that if a game target's vital area is obscured by enough foliage or brush to possibly interfere with the path of the projectile, it isn't a clear shot. Meaning that I think any rifle bullet can bust through a few twigs. If there are enough twigs to interfere with a bullet, there isn't clear enough visibility to positively identify the target. Start off by saying I love your videos. I'm a subscriber. I've been following this 300 thread all the way through as I am considering a blk build. But with all the troubles you've had with heavy subs, it's got me wondering if it's even worth the hassle. I would want to run heavy subs for self defense and therefore want acceptible short range accuracy and dependable expansion. Did I miss a video? Did I just forget after watching all of them? Or is this round just not worth the trouble?

Johnny, I just finished up playing with these, I found a 2.110 oal with a 1-8 twist worked in my 10.5 inch ar and my 16.25 MGM contender with 11.5 of cfeblk worked great. In the 1-7 twist RARR it was yawing everytime. Oh well it works in 2 out of 3 tested.

A little off topic but I was working up a hunting load for my 16" 300 blackout and came across some data that shocked me. I tested it out and have found it to be true. Nosler 125 grain ballistic tip can be pushed to 2400 fps without pressure issues what so ever. Would love to see you test it out in yours to compare some results

I use the sierra nr 2180 (220g round nose) with 7 grain Vectan AO. I get allways about 1000fts. perfect group untill 80yards. I thought you had them too. Happy your back, i got tiered from Scotty Kilmer

Great details... Try doing the test over without the suppressor, before testing with the suppressor to see if the grouping is tighter and velocity closer with or without the suppressor.

Hmm, running s 10.5 inch barrel, 2.10 OAL LC brass, Winchester SR, primer 11gr CFE black 1054 avg velocity, and stable. I use these between 4750-7000 feet elevation above sea level. Works great in the 16 inch bolt gun as well. BTW they are 1/8 and 1/7 twist respectively. I have learned a lot from your vids and appreciate the knowledge you share. Keep them rolling.

Hey Johnny, love your videos and all the data that you create in them. If I could make a suggestion without knowing anything about your audio/video processing software, I would recommend putting on a mild compressor and high frequency limiter for the viewers pleasure. It prevents the gunshots from being way louder than the rest of the video by using a compressor and the frequency limiter (high pass filter) prevents certain noises from having a sharp hiss to them. It's super easy to set up and I'd be more than happy to talk more about it with you.

There's another guy who won the 2017 or 2018 subsonic accuracy challenge on 300 black talk with them. They seem to be a very tricky bullet to get to shoot well for most people. As in 9/10 people rage quit. He has some videos here showing what it took to get good groups. If you want to know what works, I would encourage you to look up his threads and videos on the topic.

johnny, I have had no stability issues with this bullet. I am running a 10.3" daniel defense barrel with aa1680 and a c.o.a.l. of 2.100". I think your poor expansion was due to the bullets impacting the gel at an angle(you can see the angle on the ends of your bullets). I shot mine into milk jugs full of water and they acted like varmint bullets-complete fragmentation. They didn't mushroom and stay together at all, there were just tiny bits of lead and jacket pieces throughout the jugs. I would definitely explore it further. since you can shoot on your own property, I suggest maybe just prepping your brass, load 2 or 3 rounds and test stability, then go make adjustments-load two or three more, and test again vs. loading a large batch and finding out it's unstable-this is how i develop subsonic loads to save components. by the way, so glad to see you getting the blackout back in the mix, was getting really bored with all of the 6.5 and 308 videos hopefully you'll get back into the blackout
