I've been frustrated finding available ammo at my gun store, met a guy there yesterday and we chatted about reloading...he swears by the Dillon 650 but recommended the new 750. Having found your page, I feel like a whole new world has opened up! There's still so much I need to learn, but you have done a great job addressing this machine, thank you so much!

550 and 750 make a great partnership when you have a number of calibers, especially if you shoot a lot of smaller cased ammo like 9mm Luger or .38 Spec.

Mike Dillon (R.I.P.) started his Company based on Total Q.C. + Outstanding Customer Service. I've had Dillon presses since mid 1.980's and my ONLY troubles I ever had were with my first- generation Square Deal press' frame, (my fault, my mistakes), that Dillon Precision replaced for free over 20 yrs ago when I traded it with a friend. I actually have presses / products from Lyman, RCBS & LEE, but even in my LEE Loadmaster I use Dillon's powder measure + powder dies & funnels for several ctgs. All of the above said, IMHO is All American Top Quality & Top Customer Service. Many thanks for your excellent videos & God Bless!!👌😊🙏

I researched the possibility of reloading 20 years ago and bought some dies. Then just stopped, no forward progress. I've been doing indept research again. I've stopped again. But this time with good reason. I've decided to buy a Dillon 750 XL. With a different brand premium scale and other necessities. I'm old and I don't like fiddling with junk! I will buy what works and expect nothing less than excellant customer service. Your video was well prepared, unbiased and extremely informational.Thank you . I had already made my decision. I’m returning a Hornady Lock and Load AP press due to constant issues over 3 weeks of owning it and getting this press instead. It’s like somebody owned the Hornady press, got tired of the problems with it, then made this press to fix all the issues the Hornady had. Everything on it is an upgrade from Hornady. Great in depth review

In my over 40 years of reloading I've owned 9 progressive machines 5 have been Dillon and I still own and use a 25 year old xl 650 a 550 plus my newest one the xl 750 set up for one cartridge 9mm. The xl 750 is by far the best I had one small issue with the primer op rod when I was first setting it up but it was an easy fix. 18 months ago when I bought the xl 750 I had just got a great deal on 3 cases 36,000 Fiocchi small pistol primers today I opened the third case . That means the xl 750 has spit out over 24,000 9mm rounds with no issues. The only mods I've done to the xl 750 are a UFO light, a shell plate bearing and plastic detent ball and a Mr. Bullet feeder. With the press mounted where the shell plate is at eye level I can see every powder charge and bullet drop all I do is pull the handle and feed the beast. At the rate that I'm shooting and reloading my newest machine will have paid for it's self very soon.

I built a very nice workbench for my rifles so now instead of putting my rifles on my workbench and admiring them I'm going to get this press so I have an excuse to tinker. I have the 650XL and I have been extremely happy with my purchase. The 750 is an upgraded 650 basically so I would buy one if I have the need for a second press. I would recommend that you get the powder check system, the bullet tray, the tool bracket accessory kit, the spare parts kit, and a "Skylight" LED lighting Kit for the Dillon XL 650 & 750 kit from Inline Fabrication. I also like the aluminum roller handle that Dillon offers. I have used Dillon's customer service a couple of times and it is the best there is. No other customer service department for any company not just reloading equipment comes close to Dillon's. I've been a Dillon customer for 30 years and I have never been disappointed with my decision to purchase their products and service.

Got a 750 recently after running a 550 since mid-1980's. What a difference! It takes some getting used to the different feel of a different machine. Following the instruction manual it was fairly straight forward to setup. Ran into one problem but it was because my eyes blanked out an instruction, but no major biggie. Running 9mm (#1 reason for the 750) I ran into some hiccups with the casefeeding system. Empties would occasionally get hung up and not drop; sometimes case wouldn't feed totally into the shellplate. Nearing the 500 mark I'd sometimes get two cases dropped (stacked "perfectly")and that would make a mess. Then came coup de grace, two cases dropped, one landed on its side and the other standing up. When the press went up there was a BANG and I briefly saw two objects flying through the air. This broke one of the guide arms and also mangled the metal insert which the empty slides on to the shellplate. So a call to Dillon was made on a heavy customer service day (Friday) and I was #10 in the phone queue. The Dillon guy was tired but courteous (it was 1530 AZ time). Bottom line it should not drop two 9mm cases at once! There was a question of the correct parts for 9mm and I had no idea, the unit was in a sealed box when I bought it from the large store chain. So the tech guy sent me a bunch of parts to make sure the correct stuff is in the unit beside the broken parts. Updates to come. Overall I love the machine. Wish I'd had one 30 years ago! LOL Case feeder is a must and I'm finding that a mechanical primer tube filling device would be a great addition also. Also realize I have more than the 2k 9mm cases I estimated, way more, much way more!! Suppose I've underestimated how many empty .38 Special cases I have which was the #2 reason for a 750. :)

How much faster do you find your 750 over your 550?
@jameshickok2349
@jameshickok2349 Жыл бұрын
@@williampowell8083 The 550 about 200/hr with no problems for pistol and 223 cases. The 750 can crank out 700/hr of 9mm without breaking a sweat. I finished all my empty pistol cases just before the pandemic panic. When I went to get more primers is when I discovered a virus caused a reloading buying panic. So right now my pace will be a lot slower as I haven't run the 750 for nearly four years.

Great video Gavin, I really appreciate the in depth info and answering questions all of us have I'm sure. Dillon should give you a commision because your video just sold me on a new 750 I picked up at local Turners yesterday. It's going to cover all my rifle and 9mm needs so thank you for the detailed explanation on caliber changes. One thing is, Gavin isn't BS'ing when he says it's a lifetime purchase because the new 750 is going right next to my Dillon SDB that was purchased new in 1988 by my dad and is now mine. It's actually shipping back to Dillon on Monday to be refurbished after only 34 years of continuous 357 & 44 mag production!!

Excellent Video as always Gavin! Let me preface this by saying I just bought a lock and load ammo plant. I called Dillon and really wanted and almost bought a 750 tho. My problem it seems, is I am loading almost completely rifle calibers. They recommend the 550 for that. A non auto indexing 4 station, not super fast which is fine for rifle. I also have 1 pistol caliber .45ACP Mostly magnum and other rifle calibers is my main need tho. I looked studied thought and thought. The more I looked at Hornady's 1/2 rotation index on the way up and 1/2 rotation index on the way down. I Then, understood why it handles tall rifle cases so easily. the cost of the Dillon wasn't off putting until I looked at setting up 5 bare dieplates at about $132.00 each I believe it was. The vast difference between that and I would get a bullet feeder and a rifle case feeder with the red machine! I also could buy all the case feed plates, and a ton of quick change lock and load bushings, instead of individual 132.00 die plates, and about the same cost of a Dillon set up for 1 caliber was just icing on the cake. I really like the Dillon and wanted a 750 but in the end I decided the Hornady was worth trying. Who knows I may end up with a blue machine in a year or 2 for all I know. If we are completely honest its like $275.00 to set it up, where you slide 1 die plate in with everything, (to load .45ACP for example). That plus the fast plate rotation, was the Dillon's biggest downfall to me. Dillon calls it an EZ caliber change kit on Dillon's website. That is a plate with dies and powder measure tho to be fair. Otherwise you have to unscrew your powder measure and transfer it to the next die plate.(which is what I would do) I wish I could have run both machines but I live out in the sticks so I did everything on the phone, and had it shipped. I did get a metric butt load of Hornady free bullets coming, (kind of a unfair bonus Hornady has over the press companies). I ended up setting up 2- RCBS 1stg. presses for ultra fine rifle case preparations like case sizing, neck sizing, etc. and bought a Lee bullet casting setup so I can also use them for bullet sizing before powdercoating etc. (with the extra money I would have spent on a Blue rig). So in the end, I spent just as much, probably more, dollars. But got a lot more. I hope this helps somebody, as I studied these presses for a long , long, time and read and watched everything before I decided. I believe either one is a great machine. If I shot more than 1 pistol caliber I may have gone with a 750, but when its almost all large rifle calibers , I think I made the best decision.

I have two 650s, one dedicated as small primer for 9mm, 556 and 300 BlkOut and the other dedicated as large primer for 45ACP, 308 and 458 SOCOM. I have loaded thousands and thousands of rounds with these multiple calibers with quick conversion kits with no issues. I see no reason the 750xl is an upgrade with a primer system similar to the 550. I will wait for Dillon to release the 1100 since that will be the press I consider an upgrade.

Got to be honest here, I have had a XL650 for 30yrs and the only problem has been a few primer system spring, only god knows how many hundreds of thousand rounds I have loaded on it for IPSC, don't pick up one projectile at a time, get a handful and use thumb and index finger to load, gets a really good pace and speeds things up, my case plate does not even stop until I run out of primers, can load 100 rounds of pistol in five minutes or less, I have tool heads in 45acp, 9mm, 38 super, 308 win, and 223, mount it to a solid bench and it will not move like this one does, use separate powder measures for each calibre, or at least a separate powder charge bar a lot less pissing about and your load settings stay precise, I replaced the failsafe bar with a accelerator return spring used on a Holley carb on a Buick V8 to smooth out the powder measure return action as I was spilling powder when loading 223 with every small jolt as the powder measure returned to position, no more spilt powder, powder measure has never failed to return. Fantastic presses and Dillon's customer service and warrantee is fantastic.

I've owned my 650 for better than 20 years (still have the instructional video on VHS)... I bought the spare parts kit to go with it, and after hundreds of thousands of rounds, I have yet to have to pull out a spare part. IMO, best testament to one of the greatest reloaders on the market. I'm thinking the 750 is nothing more than "We have to do SOMETHING "innovative", so lets fix what's not broke", though I will say it's nice that they used the roller bearing for the case indexer since that is probably the most common upgrade, and the variable speed case feed does look nice. Inline Fabrication mount.... WAY too much flex.

I have a 750 i bought it the week before it was released, it is awesome. I never had a 650 because of the priming system on them, as soon as I heard about the upgrades to the 750 I was all over it.

LOVE Dillon's products! I only have a 550B, but have multiple tool heads with Dillon dies mounted in them. Caliber change is simple and quick. Oh, did I mention that the press is over 25 years old? I have loaded thousands of rounds with this press, with great repeatability. Thank you Gavin for the fantastic setup and review. As always, job well done!

My new 750 should be here tomorrow according to the tracking. Looking forward to trying it out. Wasn’t able to fond a case feeder in stock at this time so I guess that will have to wait. I was running a Hornady LNL AP but had tons of issues with the priming system and after failed attempts to remedy it I decided to part ways with it. If I like this 750 as much as I think I will then a new 550 to compliment it may soon be in order. Plan on dedicating this 750 to 9mm but might try out some 300 blk too.

Excellent video, as always. However, absent, is the switching of the case feed ramp (or whatever it's called)...(the black polymer ramped thing) from rifle to pistol. The thing that is marked "P" on one side for pistol and "R" on the other side for rifle. The official "Dillon Precision" XL 750 setup video also failed to address this. I can figure it out, but in this day and age, it's nice to see a video of anything prior to attempting it. Thanks, however, for your very informative videos.

Excellent review. Nice press and the cost was less that I expected. One of these days if I just completely get fed up with all these nagging little issues with with my Hornady LNL I may have to make the switch.

As a proud Dillon XL650 owner of many years, I haven't seen a need to upgrade but this video makes me nostalgic for the unboxing experience of the Dillon and to top it off you get a color manual with the XL750. I'm so jealous.

great video learned a lot still have not made the plunge into reloading I have read the books just can't decide what calibers I want to reload. With ammo getting so cheap for bulk its hard to compete. I was originally going to do 45 because it was the most expensive round I owned but now they sell 200 rounds for 70 most places. But dillion has a great product from what I see and you provided a lot of info

My first reloader was a Dillon 650XL bought in 1993 I happen to live a few miles from Dillon so always had great customer service from them. Early on I got into machine guns when prices were still cheap early 90's and reloading was a must. Then Russian steel case stuff hit the markets and price was so cheap wasn't even worth reloading 1000 rounds for $100 .223 and 308 $150. 2000's came and went prices that reloading is no longer cost effective for rifle rounds at least for the machine guns I still reload pistol calibers. The biggest issues with rifle is the lube makes a mess all the processing my first time loading got a .223 jammed real good into a sizing die.

Great video. I'm bookmarking all the info videos on xl750. I am about to drop hammer on the 750 I just want to know everything before hand. I will be reloading .223, .44 mag, .357 mag, 9mm, and .223, and 30 cal carbine. I have all my dies, carbide, I used to reload with a cheap single stage RCBS. I have already started pricing things like the tool heads. 2 for $51 on Ebay, Lee precision lock rings with wrench $8 for 3, upgrade kit from Dillon $157.97. I still need to buy the primer flip tray and a lot of the other odds and ends. I can't afford the bullet loader or the automatic casing loader. I know loading the bullets by hand is a no brainer but what about loading bullet and casing by hand. The major problem I'm having is finding bullets, casings, gun powder and primers. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. This is a father me at 66, and son at 34 deal.

Great job. I pick up my new XL750 today and will keep my 30 year old 550 which has well over 300K on it. I have a couple of questions who's work bench top in that and how thick is it ? Are the Alum rails a "tee" slot? Recommendations on where to purchase? Second question , inline 4" quick change mount . How mucuch does the ram / handle nut hang below the top of the bench? Third question on the quick change plate , is it level when installed or is it a little off from base to base?

If you’re a brand new reloader I think this costs $1.4k even just for a single caliber with the case feeder and mount kit. You have to buy all the other necessary things to measure, load primers etc. I’d say your cost is for someone that already has a basic reloading setup and is buying or upgrading to a 750xl. Maybe that’s what you meant though.

Thanks for your video! I imported one XL750 press and now I'm looking for some information about it, and your video is very simple and clear... One info, shipment took 25 days since has delivered to DHL until I get it, but most of time was spent in government verification (here in Brazil they control a lot every thing about fire guns)... Best regards from Brazil!

Gavin, great video and right on target! My wife gave me an early Christmas present this year...yep an XL750 with lots of extras...primer tubes, decapper, extra toolhead...I had been using a Lee Classic Turret for the last 5 years. Many Many Many rounds, but I was really tired of the 45 min per 100 rounds AFTER the press was topped off with primers and powder... I decided not to go with the Dillon Case Feeder and went with the DAA Mini Case Feeder. I couldn't justify the extra cost. Also used the change over to install t-tracks in the bench for an Ultimate Bench! Thanks Gavin!

I currently load .45 ACP on a Lee Loadmaster. I have to say that it has done the job but with a great amount of hassle. The two good things about Lee is that their dies and customer service are great. On the down side there is a lot. The primer system is terrible. Even when it’s working I get a small dent in my primers. It’s a real kick to your pride. The fact that you have to give up a station by resizing at station two just to make it work is just plain poor. The Auto Disk is limiting and too much variation with the powder charge. The bullet seating varies way too much and gets worse when all stations are not occupied. Again it will make ammunition but how good is it? Some of these things I was willing to put up with but lately I had my largest “let down “. The fact is we need dependable equipment under bad circumstances. During an ammo shortage under a pandemic and so much civil unrest is NOT the time to be crushing, tipping, and flipping primers. When your down to 700 you sure as hell don’t want to waste even one or see that you need to take rounds apart because of missing or damaged components. It is absolutely unacceptable so I ordered my XL750 this morning. I stopped loading until it arrives. I have 300 primers left and I intend to use every single one of them. Lee should change the name from Loadmaster to Vandalizer

I really appreciate your "neutrality" when it comes to comparing reloading equipment. How does this compare to the Hornady LnL? I like Hornady's slow rotating system, their quick caliber change system. But Dillon is better quality? How about safety - primer explosion as well "squib" prevention. How do they compare?

Love my 750 and it is a quality tool. My only complaint is that you can't directly mount it to a work surface that has a thickness of 1 inch. As in a slab table top. The nylock nut on the bottom of the pull lever hits the under side of the table right where the bolt goes through also. Seems engineering should have spotted this little issue and offset the press another 3/4 to the mounting holes in the base. I had to create a whole new base place just to directly mount it 3/4 further out from the actual end of my work table. Other than that it's a very nice press.

I have had trouble with the shell plate jumping and shaking powder out of cases on the 650...it looks as tho they smoothed out that problem with then new 750. Somebody out there does sell a kit with a synthetic station ball. Might be worth a look if you find that to be a problem with your rig.
