Anycubic apparently passed these things out like Halloween candy to KZbin presenters and now I’m seeing what might be confused with advertising. This presentation is the best so far. Well part of the 12K benefit is that we are at a larger build volume. You aren't really getting extra resolution over a say 4K printer unless you print at that same build volume. We would really need to break this down to something like pixels per inch^2 to make an accurate comparison.

That's great, that 0.1mm layer height model printed at 18.066 layers per minute. My 10.3" 8K Nova3D Whale3 SE using Aorita ACF did a full build plate of models (one was Fotis Mint "V" bust and base, the other a detailed replica of an M4 which had many parts that needed to precisely fit together), at 0.05mm layer height, at 17.78 layers per minute, with fantastic detail and accuracy. I could probably reasonably make it faster 20% faster before running in to trouble... I only used 'conventional' Nova3D Grey Ceramic Water Washable resin for that print. So it's a combination of the ACF and a good printer. (By the way, ACF doesn't seem to make the "FEP pop" noise.)

Exciting to see the 12K printer, but there is a small question: The pixel sizes are often very close, but the printer is 1/(11520/218) x 1/(5120/123) which suggests 18.92um by 24.02um, so the y-axis resolution is almost 20% less than on the x-axis, does it affect the printing precision in some way?

I was pretty excited to hear about the M5s (ready to put a clip of Dr. Daystrom from Star Trek saying "The M5 has been perfected Commander, it's potential is a fact!" in my review) but when it came time to buy a new resin printer one week after this review I looked at the lead time for the U.S. and it was 3 months! Ahhh! I want it in the beginning of summer and I can't get it until the end of summer. Bummer! One other thing: In dealing with lifelike robotics the average human head is about 6-7 inches wide and the M5s depth is only 4.84". And if there's one thing we all know, you can't take over the world with an army of robots with pygmy heads! Plus, I wondered how the miracle of speed was achieved. Surely fancy algorithms and speed calculating electronics weren't the only tools? That low viscosity resin? My thought was "Could that resin be used on OTHER MSLA printers and with a few modifications to settings might it give a reasonable advantage to ANY MSLA printer?" Someone want to check that out? Someone named Joel who has a volume of different printers at his disposal and a curious mind? End of story is I bought the M3 MAX. No auto leveling, no Wi-Fi, no advertised speed, no 12K (7K will do) but at a depth of 6.46" heads will roll and I'm starting to think about uniforms.

One concern I would have with the 12k screen is the replacement cost. Anycubic is generally more expensive the Elegoo for there screen replacement costs and the 12k is definitely going to increase the cost compared to say the 6k or 8k screens. There there is this new FEP sheet which I bet will also cost more then say a generic one off of Amazon. I do love the auto leveling and speed settings though. My two cents.

I think it would be a really interesting idea, to take one of the new fast resin printers that exist, and compare it directly to an fdm 3d printer also printing at 0.1mm. Resin has always been known as being really slow but more accurate, but perhaps now it's both. What would be especially cool, would be to print a tall slim model faster, by slicing it into 4, and then slotting them together after. You could also try 0.15mm, since even if it reduces quality it still will be better than fdm.

I got curious & looked at their site. When I looked at the prices there was an option to purchase 1 of those wash & cure thingies, but along with the name of it was mentioned the dimensions (of print) that the w&c could handle. Even on the larger W&C+, the listed maximum dimensions for a model are smaller than the max printable size of the new printer. Not a problem if you just want to print multiple smaller models, but if you want to push the printer to its size limits you're gonna have to find an alternative w&c solution.

I wonder how the definition of such a small voxel is affected by the diffused ACF film since the printer lacks a focusing system and relies solely on the collimation of the LED array. Maybe you could try print a checker pattern (2x2, 3x3, 4x4, pixels and so on) and check what the minimum resolution is to achieve crisp features of empty and filed tiles in the printed pattern.

saturn 3 ultra has light flux corrections and on YT there are printouts comparing with m5s and I don't see the difference there ... I admit that I would prefer to have a printer with this correction but I prefer to have a resistance sensor because it gives more possibilities, such as leveling, detecting the amount of resin, printing resistance if it will fall off, you won't dent it in the lcd or, for example, such a function as automatic detection of how much the printer has to raise before the next layer, which shortens the printing from 9h to 6h (I hope they will add it because the equipment is there).

12K screen resolution aside, there's not a ton of great features to sway me back to anycubic. Now if it was doing .03mm layers at 120mm/h rock solid, I might be more interested. I've been using a whambam flex plate for three years and the only fails (2) I've had were trying to print in a room that was 50*F at the time which was pushing it, but during my active parts of the year, it's not uncommon to gobble through 12 liters of resin a month. The GK2 machine will probably be my next at-home printer as it does have some industrial-lite features and a novel leveling system, plus the screen can be replaced with one cable, the resin vat has no screws holding it down, flip up lid... (It'd be a good one to try for the channel)

I just returned the gk two. The build plate was amazing and I wish more manufacturers would adopt it because it sucks dealing with resin on top of the build plate. The build quality was kinda meh. Finish lines not matching up perfectly, the front bezel with the touchscreen was crooked, the flip up hood was also crooked and the hinge for it put too much stress on the top housing because it's screwed into plastic instead of metal (who thought that was a good idea?). The flip up hood doesn't do a good job of keeping the resin fumes in the chamber so that the filter can do it's job. So the fumes were noticeable throughout the house. The heater is nice but it takes a long time to heat up. I got a second gk two to see if maybe I just got a quality control dud, but nope. The second one had the same issues AND the slide in vat wobbled slightly and the build plate had a huge scrape on the bottom along with a chip in the side. I REALLY wanted to like it and was hoping it was going to be the end all be all for the foreseeable future, but unfortunately I just couldn't justify the steep $900 price tag for something that seemed like it needed some more engineering refinement to warrant the price. Especially when you consider the anycubic m5s, phrozen mini 8ks, and the upcoming elegoo 12k in June for less than half the price of one gk two. When you consider the fact that there are some excellent DIY chamber heater mods available from the community for around $40, it makes it even more of a bad deal. I hope this helps your decision making process.

@@David-ym2vk Well that's a bummer but I appreciate the ownership review. I had a terrible ownership experience with anycubic previously, and as much as they appear to have improved, it's the lost trust that keeps me from considering them much further, and as you noted, there's a fairly widespread wealth of competition for the money. At one point I was really considering building my own as that's essentially what comes from overseas is the same chassis and mainboard plus box of parts and a screen, and there's been a few that have successfully made a viable 15" wunderkind in the same manner that are still in my consideration pool. I've diy'ed computer controlled heaters and VOC- control chambers with rebuildable active carbon filters in the past, (if you've been on the reddit resin printing page, I left heaps of build guides a few years back) though I've always wanted to do one with a bottom-up inkjet-type distribution system for a more on-the-nose 3D printer that can also do color. The hardware isn't terribly difficult, it was formulating the resin for the flow valves to work with inkjet dot matrix systems that put the kibosh on progress. I did a bit more digging on the idea and found a Japanese company that essentially figured out a similar system, but they start in the mid 5 figure range. 👀

Feels similar to the Bambu Lab X1 advancement when it comes to ease of use, but for resin. Having to make sure my resin plate is level is one of the reasons I dont use it near as much.

Frankly I have actually been back and forth between what to upgrade between my resin printer and FDM printer. I was looking at the FDM because there really hasn't been many big advances in resin. This printer actually made it a pretty tough choice. I kinda want to start doing more models and painting though. For functional parts my FDM machine already does a fine job and most of the time I am not really that concerned about the speed of it.

question about that 105mm per hour. is that assuming the entire build plate area is used or for a 1cm x 1cm tower? because i'm sure it will take a lot longer to print a 10cm x 10cm tower than a 1cm x 1cm tower. 😅

I use resin prints for structural engineering parts. I'd like to see pull tests to failure with parts printed from different resins at different print speeds and different layer heights.

Well dang, thats cool! No self leveling is definitely what I wanted from a printer. 12k, which in this case is about 19 micron xy is cool, but definitely more of a gimmick for the majority of people. If they make one just like this but with higher z and maybe a bit bigger xy I will for sure sell my Saturn 2 and buy one of those. Elegoo by the way is heaving their announcements on 1 June, lets see if they can offer something competitive.

Just pre ordered a phrozen mini 8ks as my first printer, had news on this one come out a few days earlier, probably would have gotten it instead. Oh well, at least delivery date on my 8k is a month earlier, and it should still be plenty good for my first printer, though the no leveling, larger print space, and faster printing would definitely have been nice to haves worth the extra ~$100.

I have two Phrozen machines and I love them. This is not a true 12k its 19x24 micron, you can use the same film and resin and get the same speed... auto-level is cool but not needed. JMO, you are better off with the Phrozen.

@@leatherworkstation i bought a Phenom Forge by Peopoly after watching this video. It has the heated vat which was important for controlling the heat sensitive resins that I'm using. The 6k resolution is more than enough for my printing needs and like you mention, it is more expensive upfront ($3500), but with the resin @ $200 per litre and less/zero print failures, it will pay for itself in no time.

Every printer review is "we got super fantastic results on this massive bust with their specialty resin, that you can't buy yet, but they gave us to demo, at the exact settings they set up for us". What we need to see is "oh yeah here's also some large medium and small pints on this machine using something like Sirya Tech fast 8k black or metal gray or something that you likely have already, and these are the results.

Had to wait 3 weeks for it. Just came yesterday. Hello, I have a question about the auto level mechanism. Do you think you can make a flexplate (magnetic) to the buildplate? Or will that make it too thick and not work? Thanks and great review

Uncle Jessy did some testing that shows very promising results. With a flex plate used as a spacer between the plate and he vat, the auto-calibrarion succeeded and the print started. We will know for sure soon enough.

I'm trying to figure out what "auto leveling" means in this context? It looks to me like they just have a rigid build plate that's level to the vat, there's no active auto leveling going on. I'm also disappointed that the high-speed settings seem to require such chunky layers. That said, I absolutely pre-ordered this for the 12K screen (I'm currently running a 3K Halot ONE Pro) and a couple other features.
