Hi Joe. Nice review as always. I do wonder, since you've never discussed a very small speaker (3-4" woofer), what do you recommend for a desktop use with a very limited space? I only have around 8" x 8" space for each speaker. Thanks in advance!

I was excited to see what their desktop solution would be. But this is definitely an odd approach. The bass module only brings the system down to 40hz and with the high crossover makes the bass directional requiring that specific placement. Seems like a pair of bookshelves would still outperform this like you said and a true 2.1 system would provide the best results.

Yes, I think this is for a specific use-case. I'm still impressed that they were to pull off what they did. It really shows a high level understanding of acoustics. It's kind of like how you can push a small sub to perform like a larger one using DSP and power handling. But at the end of the day, physics kicks in and shows that a larger enclosure can do things with more ease. It also doesn't help that they have the IN-5 which uses the same concentric midrange, but with a typical enclosure. They apply the same DSP techniques and it's simply more capable from a performance standpoint.

I’ve had them since release and after EQ, they sound very nice. Be aware that I was encountering bad USB performance issues that may be Apple’s fault, but hard to say for sure. Kali’s support was very helpful. I was using a software solution for eq, but with these issues I may get a minidsp so I can use the analog ins. Output SPL is great compared to my other desktop speakers: the Bose companion 5 and the B&W MM-1. Form factor works great for me. Everything rests under my LG Ultrawide which is suspended on an arm. The IN-UNF needs a sub, so the minidsp will help with that. Joe, are you getting the new Kali sub for review?

@@joentellI wonder how that would sound.. I have a 2.1 setup with LP6 V2’s that I was gonna add a center channel to but this has me very intrigued.. Though idk how the “bass box” (or w/e it’s called) would work out with it

The Kali MM6 are now $300 on amazon. Would that be a better buy than two LP6v2s which would be $400?

Haha! It actually was "Cali" at the beginning (as they're located in the California)... Later they changed it to "Kali" (based on the Hinduism deity Kali).

They missed the mark on this one! If you want portable then go for iloud micros or the many offerings from reputable brands. These just seem odd as the bass module takes up a lot of space. Why not just get a good pair of monitors or desktop speakers with a sub that can be placed under the desk? The sub isn't that impressive either. They shoudlve developed a monitor sub to go with their good monitor line up.
