@dokomni Жыл бұрын
@@Breakaway-ic5gj Sorry for the late reply, but very well! One thing that is important to understand first and foremost is that all emotions, positive or negative, are signals for your needs being met or unmet. Also, keep in mind that they are not perfect signals. They can be very wrong sometimes, but not always! All the emotions we would call positive are signals of needs being met. If our basic needs are met for the day, we may feel content. If things are going great and your needs are tended to, we tend to feel happy. When our social comfort needs are met and/or exceeded, we feel cared for and/or loved. But those are obvious, as I'm pretty sure we all enjoy feeling those emotions. Now, the "negative" ones. I put "negative" in quotes here because while they are uncomfortable to feel, it is important to understand how they are useful! These emotions are for bringing our attention to our unment needs, and can actually help depending on the situation. Sadness warns you of your past mistakes, and with regret, we can reflect on just what we did wrong so that we can do better next time. Anger exists as a drive to get us to do something immediately, however drastic, dangerous, or downright violent it may be. Fear (my personal favorite) exists to warn you of future problems that may be coming your way, like an assignment you have to get done or a potential injury when doing something dangerous. I like to think of these emotions as teachers, coaches, and protectors respectively. These emotions can be very helpful, but again, they are imperfect. A lot of these things can be false alarms, and mental illness usually happens when a particular emotion gets out of whack and overreacts. Understanding this is actually a crucial first step used in many types of therapies! When the movie Inside Out came out, therapists compared a young child's emotions with the on-screen variant and used it as an example of how an emotion just tends to act. [Personal story this paragraph, skip if you dont care lol] I used to struggle with anxiety a lot, and it felt like my life was lost. I had no direction, and any method I tried to get rid of it failed. Then I came across a video about a game on this subject, and decided to play it for myself before continuing (Adventures with Anxiety, if you are curious). After that, I decided to forgive my anxiety and let it be a friend that's always helping me out, and OH BOY, I have never seen a more unexpected redemption arc in my life! TL;DR: In conclusion, emotions generally are not at all bad. The only bad thing about the "negative" ones is that they *feel* bad, but they are actually super useful. By listening to them rather than treating them with hostility, I'd bet you would find that you could accomplish a lot more than you might expect. This "essay" is rushed and flawed, so send me another reply if you have any questions. And remember, treat your emotions like friends, not enemies!

Something I love about ULTRAKILL is how the speaking characters refer to V1 (The machine the player controls). Gabriel usually goes for 'machine' to be plain and to the point, but in threatening it he refers to it as 'inanimate' and 'a mere object' showing how he looks down on V1, this reflects how much of Heaven sees machines, as abominations, as affronts to God's creations, humans trying to play god. Minos, however calls it a 'creature of steel', seeing V1 as just another living being made to walk Earth and now Hell. And he even thanks it for freeing him, treating V1 as an opponent to respect but not hold back against. He says that 'but the crimes thy kind have made against humanity are not forgotten', showing that he doesn't have a personal grudge with V1 but does see machines as a threat and for good reason. Sisyphus calls it a 'child of man' and 'weapon', respecting the creation of machines as relation almost, and recognizing the power of V1 being a killing machine. Rather than hold a grudge, Sisyphus' fight is him fighting out of curiosity and his easygoing 'go with the flow' nature. It shows how happy Sisyphus is to live and to hold his own, to stand his ground and be proud.
@blehh_mae Жыл бұрын
ive also heard one perspective on the fight with sisyphus where he is testing himself and testing you, if he wins then hes gonna do what he was gonna do; destroy the angels and expect to die trying still with a smile on his face, Or you kill him and he sees you can definetely accomplish what he was going to do better than him
@kabob007711 ай бұрын
@@blehh_mae To borrow a quote from Owl Man that basically works for this but in a completely different way than Owl Man's usage, it doesn't matter. On one hand if Sisyphus dies he knows V1 will carry on and probably also win and on the other if he wins he will still get to try and fight Heaven, the outcome doesn't truly matter to him because he knows that in a way he's probably "won" even if he dies here. As long as V1 carries on then Sisyphus, much like Admiral Andersen in Ace Combat 5, he hasn't lost.

So basically, the ingame Tenebre Rossa Sangue is split into two posts, Calm and In Battle. That's why you'd have parts majorly dominated by piano keys, but then it would cut to a mix of electric guitar and organ notes. Compared to the previous Prime soul, Minos, you are forced to face quiet possibly the hardest gauntlet of enemies currently in the game before actually facing Sisyphus, with everytime you move into the next room would the calm music play, only for it to immediately switch to the battle theme.

Some background lore Sisyphus punishment in hell WAS the boulder, along with having molten gold scorch out his eyes. He bided his time in the layer of Greed, waiting for any moment to be free of the demons and angels who tortured him and his fellow man. When the time finally came, Sisyphus swiftly assembled a grand army of those who would help him rebel against heaven. However, the battle ended quickly when Sisyphus was beheaded by Gabriel, the Righteous Hand of the Father. Due to the immense power of Sisyphus’ soul, he needed to be imprisoned so that he could not reform into a Prime Soul, a being of pure willpower, capable of razing heaven to the ground. Sisyphus was imprisoned within the Flesh Panopticon, which was far more heavily guarded than Minos’ Flesh Prison. When you fight the Flesh Panopticon, Sisyphus *punches his way out of it* and kills it himself. Then he monologues, and your fight begins. Sisyphus is a man purely fueled by his spite and his willpower, the indomitable human spirit. He gives you the hardest single enemy fight of the game, and dies regretting nothing.

Just in case you didn't understand, the reason why "pandemonium" was so short is because it plays while you fight the boss called "flesh panopticon" which was a prison created by the heavens to contain sysiphus prime. Shortly after the fight begins, sysiphus simply busts out (hence the sounds of gore before his speech and also why he says "this prison... To hold... ME!?!?")

In the Ultrakill lore, Sisyphus waged war against the armies of heaven, creating a legion of Insurgents to join his cause. Once the council was established, he was captured and essentially kept in a high security prison. So yes, Tenebre Rosse Sangue is technically the theme of a prison break. Pandemonium is basically a fake fight, like 30 seconds in Sisyphus breaks out due to the weakening of the seals that kept him inside (that we break). Similar to Minos, Sisyphus’ theme contains a Leitmotif (2 i believe but one isn’t essentially linked to his character) which links back to an earlier stage in the game, where you actually fight an essentially mummified and controlled insurgent of his. Real interesting stuff. Once again, love the content!
@daffoplays6616 Жыл бұрын
So two things. The insurrectionists still aren't technically controlled or mummified, they are just his fellow husks that were cleaved across the shoulders as punishment for their rebellion against heaven. Secondly, they DID kill Sisyphus, they only captured his soul, they actually entombed his corpse which you can see in 4-4 where you get the saw blades. His soul itself is the thing you fight, his very essence and willpower.
@Pyracyntrix Жыл бұрын
@@daffoplays6616 didn't know there was a giant corpse in 4-4

Wanna add a third thing to the above, we don't appear to weaken any seals. As far as I can tell from the fight we merely wake Sisyphus up, and upon hearing the chaos of the Panopticon battle he decides to break himself free. This is assumedly something he could do all along and merely chose not to until V1s appearance.

Tenebre Rosso Sengue is the theme of the city of Dis, the giant wall that separates the upper and lower layers of hell. It actually isn’t made by Hakita, but by a guest artist, Keygen Church. Pandemonium is the theme of the Flesh Panopticon, the prison designed for Sisyphus. Unlike the simple Flesh Prison, it was designed to house his entire army. The reason its cut short is because he literally punches his way out midway through the fight. And Sisyphus’ theme, “War”, is a lot better once you understand his story. When God left and Heaven was in chaos, Sisyphus started building an army in the Greed layer (which is why you hear the Sands of Tide motif). When he invaded heaven, Gabriel told the army of heaven to focus all of their fire onto Sisyphus. When he was beheaded, his army crumbled, since their only motivation was the imposing presence of Sisyphus, which is why the other cells in the Panopticon are empty. Unlike Minos, who was a noble and generous king, Sisyphus wasn’t against lying, stealing or cheating others to get his way. He isn’t fighting you because he hates you or his kind; he is fighting you purely for shits and giggles. I absolutely adore Hakita’s rendition of Sisyphus. Not as a sad man, cursed for eternity to do a futile task. But a proud one, who, through his futile task, rebels against the heavens. His rebellion might not have succeeded, but to him, the simple fact that he DIDN’T just waste away, that he even tried to rebel, was in itself the ultimate act of defiance

Sisyphus was the king of the greed layer, but unlike Minos, the king of the lust layer, who was a kind ruler to all his people, Sisyphus was mounting an insurrection against Heaven. He wasn't going down without a fight, and once Heaven caught wind of it, they sent Gabriel to behead him (hence why his head is just a ball of light, which could also be interpreted as him being a beacon of hope for his people), and sealed away his soul in the Flesh Panopticon. I love how this reflects in both their fights, because while Minos sees you as an obstacle and tries to deliver judgment, and apologizes to his people once he is killed that he could not protect them, and also screams while dying, Sisyphus sees you as a warm up, an appetizer, before he destroys the realm of Heaven, filled with unbridled rage, and is completely unphased when you kill him. He's not angry at you or himself, he simply says his life of futile struggle has come to an end, and he has no regrets, and while beams of light sprout out of him while he's dying, he laughs. He had fun. Sisyphus in Ultrakill is kind of the opposite from the mythological figure, since in the Greek mythos, Sisyphus is frustrated and exasperated at his futile struggle to push the boulder up the mountain, but in Ultrakill, the knowledge that his acts are ultimately meaningless drives Sisyphus. He relishes in the fact that his insurrection is pointless. He knows this, and it won't stop him from trying to destroy Heaven, if anything, it only makes him more determined to do it.

"There's almost like a bored aspect to it" Yeah, basically spot on. Sisyphus was stuck in the Flesh Panopticon for who knows how long and during all of that time he could've broken out himself, he didn't simply because he really didn't have a reason to. Then, when V1 comes along, he realizes that this is the thing that killed Minos's soul and triumphed through most of Hell, he finally has an opponent with enough strength to potentially match his own, he finally has something to lose and he can finally feel the thrill of battle again, during the fight he even eggs V1 on, saying "Yes, that's it!" when his health is halfway depleted.

One of my favorite parts of the Sisyphys Prime boss battle is his overall demeanor, specifically his entrance, and then during the fight "This prison, to hold... ME?" Sisyphus is a cocky man. He is a king and waged war against heaven, but only now, he is stronger. "Nice Try!" Is one if his voicelines, and he says it when doing a 'Come at me!' motion, once again showing off his cockyness. "Keep 'em coming!" He will say this once you've died, respawned and enter the arena again. This suggests that he is FINE with killing you over and over and over again, even if it means that he will die eventually due to your infinite lives. He knows there is a player, and he's enjoying it. "Yes! That's it!" Sisyphys will say this once he reaches half HP, which makes him feel like all he wants is a good fight. He doesn't really care anymore at this point. He just wants to fight you.
@linkmariokirby7373 Жыл бұрын
The Primes (or possibly just Sisyphus, as Minos' "USELESS!" doesn't quote confirm he is acknowledging respawns) are maybe the only enemies to canonically acknowledge them. Gabriel's "IS THIS WHAT I LOST TO?!" could easily be explained as a normal line playing coincidentally, considering the mood of the fight, and I don't know if Druid Knight's "wait why are we in the past" is canonical.

Marco's face when the beat drops is just amazing Edit: Forgot to add something more to my comment. P-2 is the most hardest level in the game so far and sisyphus in Ultrakill is seen as stronger than Minos so Gabriel (funy organ guy) Beheaded sisyphus because he wanted to have an all out WAR on heaven. When the player starts the level, the level tries to scare us with the blood rain. After the level actually starts (Tenebre rosso sangue) That's where a boss gauntlet occurs, the game will force the player to fight thru the game's minibosses. P-2 was made as a security measure so nobody tries to free sisyphus from escaping. After fighting the gauntlet, V1 (player) opens the vault in which sisyphus is being imprisioned. I think you get the rest.

The dichotomy to Minos and Sisyphus is fantastic. ORDER is imprisoned in CHAOS. Minos emerges, vowing revenge on Heaven, specifically Gabriel, for not allowing the souls in the Lust Layer to live peacefully, for tearing down his new kingdom. His theme is tragic, and emotional, with bits and pieces from "Requiem", the theme song from a level of Lust as well as "Guts" and "Glory" from Gluttony. Once he dies, he apologizes to his subjects. WAR is enchained in PANDEMONIUM. Sisyphus is freed, and again, wants revenge on the ENTIRETY of Heaven for stifling his rebellion and mutilating his followers. But not before testing your mettle. His theme is aggression, unbridled, with bits and pieces from "Dune Eternal", "Sands of Tide" *and* "Dancer in the Darkness", the entirety of the Greed layer. Once he dies, he laughs. I wish you could fight both at once.

So piano playes when you passing it and active part start playing when fights occur. And fighting parts of this level before Sisyphis maybe even harder than Sisyphis himself, so I glad that Keygen Church did go hard on this track) Pandemonium must be a little longer, but still, there's a lot of trushing sounds becouse Sisyphis breaking his prison by himself, I didn't hear this in video, but while all this disturbing sound happening, he says "This prison... To hold... Me?!!" Also, if you interested in lore of characters like Minos/Sisyphis/Gabriel or some other, in ultrakill wiki there for all characters/enemies must be "Terminal" section Terminal gives gameplay advise and after beating enemy, adds lore, so on wiki there will be some lore on characters. In Ultrakill, Sisyphus is a "prime soul", meaning the soul of a being who has so much willpower and who was so popular in life among other people that Heaven feared they might have the will to stand up to them. This has implications for both Minos and Sisyphus. Minos found his peace guiding other people out of misery and was desperate to protect/avenge his people, in other words, he held true to his values no matter what. The same goes for Sisyphus. He recognizes that his struggles may be futile, but he realizes that these struggles are all there is to life, so he might as well go full force. He enjoyed confrontation in general, challenging the powers that be, etc. Kinda like Yujiro Hanma from Baki, but less insane. He embodied "Greed". Greed for power, greed for the pleasures of life, pleasures which include battle experiences. It is greed, but his acceptance of it led to a sort of enlightenment. Unfortunately, this enlightenment turned on him, as his men became dependent on his intoxicating personality and when he fell, the others did not have enough individual willpower to keep fighting.

This is one of those tracks where you can’t, in your right mind, just silently sit and listen. The sheer intensity and emotion of the song makes you want to jump and throw your arms around.
